Always loved that song. To me, it was a defiant declaration to the world that, even if he was alone and insignificant to others, he was still a person and still mattered. "I am, I said, to no one there, and no one heard at all, not even the chair" has to be one of the saddest lyrics I've ever heard. This would be a rabbit hole well worth the trip.

He ran/flew from LA to the Boston Red Sox Opening Day right after the Boston Marathon bombing, so he could sing Sweet Caroline LIVE. The Sox have played Neil’s recorded version in the 8th inning for over 27 years now. It was a horrendous tragedy and Neil wanted to do “something” to show honor and respect. It meant so much to all New Englanders. This was the same day Big Papi took the mike and said to the world, “This is our f*cking city! Four years after his Parkinson’s diagnosis, he returned to Fenway in June of 2022 to sing Sweet Caroline still again at 82 years old! How can anyone not love this man? 💕🌈

I LOVE Neil Diamond. Since you liked Barbra Streisand, you need to hear the duet they did for the Grammy's, "You Don't Bring Me Flower's Anymore". Gawd, his voice is so beautiful. I was at every single concert he did in the 80s in Atlanta! Try his songs, Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, America from the Jazz Singer, it's hard to find a bad Neil Diamond some that he sings or wrote for someone else. He has a great baritone voice! The song was released in 1971. The song you probably know Red, red Wine by UB40, was written by Neil Diamond. Once you get past about the mid 90s, his voice is loosing it's quality, and the Parkinson's is taking over.

Superstar! 💎 Would love to see a video of him when he was young - don't know if there are any, but I know there are ones when he was older. He is one that his talent lasted throughout his life. Cracklin' Rosie is a nice gentle, moving-along song (the finally explodes with emotion) ... that really plays up his tone and the exhilaration affect. Lyrics: "Crackling, Rose you're a store-bought woman but you make me sing like a guitar hummin!" 🙌 👊😎 🎵🎵🎵 "Play-it now! Play-it, Play-it now!!" 🎵🎵🎵 "You & me ... we go in style."

He and my dad had similar features so looking at him reminds me of my dad and listening to his music reminds me of before school times. 7:36 this song was a conscious attempt on his part to express what his dreams were about that came about from his time in therapy. A fun fact about Neil Diamond he has some great Christmas songs out there but because he’s Jewish he had to ask his grandma for permission to do it and her response basically was “with a voice like that you have to”.

I was fortunate enough to see him in concert, early 1990s. He was showing his age, but his voice was still as strong and as clear as it was in the 1970s. I saw a few of his stages a decade or so later and could hear his voice lost much of it's 'texture' for lack of a better word, he still sounded good but age finally caught up with his vocal cords. Back around 1972/73 I fell in love with his voice and I think his Taproot Manuscript, Moods, and Hot August Night (live) albums are my favorites.

When choosing live Neil Diamond performances please keep a few things in mind. He started as a songwriter in the early sixties and began recording his own music in 1966. In August of 1972 he did a series of ten sold out concerts at The Greek Theatre in LA. One of those performances was recorded (audio, not video) and became a double album, “Hot August Night”, that became a multi platinum, iconic piece of music history. One critic who attended one of the performances said he had never seen ND perform with so much confidence. The album solidified his reputation as a dynamic performer. That’s when he really hit his stride. When looking for live videos of his early songs, I would strongly recommend that you choose from his earlier performances, after the August 1972 concerts (which are great but only have audio), when he was in his prime and hadn’t performed those songs hundreds of times. He also has a song called “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show” which is very popular. I saw someone on another channel recommend his performance for the BBC in 1971. I have to disagree with that. He did a great job, but the polite British audience was very quiet during the song. It’s much better when he gets the energy of an enthusiastic audience to play off of. I would recommend that after you’ve heard the song you then listen to the “Soolaimon/Brother Love’s . . .” medley from the Hot August Night album. It skips the beginning of BLTSS, which actually starts with the line, “Hot August night and the leaves hanging down and the grass on the ground smelling sweet.” It’s a great opening to the song, which is why your first listen should include the song in its entirety.

Neil Diamond was born in Brooklyn 1/24/1941..to Jewish immigrants from Poland...he received a $9 acoustic guitar for a birthday gift...and at age 15 wrote his first song 'Hear Them Bells'...while singing at his High School there was a classmate he wouldn't formally meet for another 20 years..that was Barbara Streisand... In 1958 Neil entered NYU pre-med to become a doctor but medicine didn't interest him as much as music..he dropped out at the end of his junior year just 10 credits shy of graduating.. music became his world..working in and around music..writing and performing... Throughout the years he had ups and downs.. appearances on Dick Clark's American Bandstand..and in 1966 recorded his first album... Neil also made appearances on other variety shows..wrote music for other groups/singers and even musical scores for films as well as a short foray into acting... however acting wasn't his strength and decided to stick to music... Neil was well loved for his musc and still today new listeners are drawn to his melodic style... 🌿🌿🌿
