If it weren't for Linda Ronstandt we wouldn't have the Eagles. She said they were too good to be just studio musicians or back up band for her and encouraged them to go out and become who they were meant to be. Thank you Linda!!
@kevinmcconnell36419 күн бұрын
Linda was s considered by many to be the queen of rock n roll as a singer. I’ll add to that as a person in the music industry!! Both Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris remarked about Linda’s insistence on staying in the background as a/the harmony voice in their collaboration recordings. Linda, a singer as big as the other two throughout their careers, but she didn’t feel the need to be in the spotlight!!

Well, she should be thanked second. You might want to thank the Late Kenny Rogers first since he trusted Henley enough on a perchance meeting at a Dallas Hip clothing store to listen to his band at the time. He ended up financing Henley and brought him to California and helped a bit in the Frey meeting. Between Frey, Henley and Jackson Browne, they struggled through using a lot of Rogers money. Now is the beginning of the Linda timeline...

Back in the 60s and 70s, local radio stations didn't discriminate. We listened to music. Be it Motown, rock, blues, pop. We listened to the best. That's why that era still has the best music. All genres covered the best music.

@dougman239 күн бұрын
So many ties there...Bernie Leadon, the Eagles 1st guitarist, was also from Tommy and Don's hometown of Gainesville, FL, and encouraged Felder to come out to LA. Tommy became Tom and went out to form the Heartbreakers. Tom's Heartbreakers guitarist, Mike Campbell, wrote a song for one of the pre-album demos that he played for Tom, who passed on it. Mike sold it to a guy from another band, who changed the key to meet his voice, and wrote lyrics. That guy was the Eagles' Don Henley. That song was The Boys of Summer...
@pburski11029 күн бұрын
This song was given to Glenn by Jackson Browne. Glenn and Don Henley lived in an apartment above Jackson Browne. Glenn heard Jackson working on this song for 2 weeks straight. He had a writer's block after "I was standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona." Glenn went downstairs and asked Browne if he was ever going to finish the song. Jackson asked if he wanted the song and gave it to him. The MTV show was when the Eagles reunited. They had broken up for 13 or 14 years. Asked if they would ever get back together one of them said "When Hell freezes over." That was the name of their reunion tour and album. I recommend the DVD "History of the Eagles." It's is amazing.

Browne lived in a basement apartment below Glenn Frey and JD Souther. Frey offered the line "It's a girl my Lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowing down to takle a look at me". Jackson was blown away by this wantabe songwriter getting Girls, Trucks and Religion in a single line. Browne commented that the song would not be finished by his next album deadline and Frey accepted the chance to complete it. Although Jackson Browne eventually earned over a million dollars in shared writing credits for the song.

Life in the Fast Lane has two back stories, both involving Glenn Frey. The name comes from an incident when Glenn Frey was riding shotgun in a speeding Corvette being driven by a drug dealer. They were headed for an illicit poker game. Glenn expressed concern about the speed. The driver said, “Life in the fast line.” Joe Walsh was warming up for a performance when Glenn Frey burst into his dressing room. “What the hell is that?” Joe explained it was the riff he used to warm up his fingers. “That’s an Eagle’s song, dude.” Soon, it was. That warm up riff is the opening of Life in the Fast Lane.

There’s a corner in Winslow, Arizona on Route 66 that commemorates this song, complete with statues of Glenn Frey and Jackson Browne and a red flatbed Ford. I happen to be riding through Winslow with my wife and another couple on motorcycles a couple of years ago when they were having the Standin’ on a Corner Festival. As a lifelong Eagles fan, it was pure bucket list stuff. A cloudless day, great music and happy, happy people.

Glenn had a son fairly late in life named Deacon. He was barely 20 when his Dad passed. He was just starting to get into music when Vince Gill joined the group to cover Glenn's songs, He joined the group around that same time, and Vince took him under his wing, as he started learning some of his Dad's lead songs. He toured with the group for a while, and sounded pretty damn good. Check some videos with Deacon in the group, and you'll see that he's the spittin' image of his Dad in the 70's. Vince Gill is an amazing country musician in his own right, with an amazing voice range. He loves being involved with the group now.

Yes, amazingly people change their hairstyles over the course of 20 years. 😂 Plus those '70s hairstyles were pretty heinous. I saw a video recently of Peter Cetera looking like he's wearing a really bad wig.

It’s an entire band of lead singers. All had decades of experience being high profile musicians and singers. It is basically an all star team.

That was Don Henley on the Drums, his hair changed when he got older. I had the 70's fro like he did, and by 1981 the curl just went away. The early Eagles weren't quite Country, Rock or Folk music, but they were the perfect blend of each and carved out their own genre of music. The first cassette tape I bought was Eagles, Greatest Hits 71-74. Desperado is another deep, meaningful and beautiful song. My favorite deep cut song off the Hotel California album is "Last Resort".

I know this is features Glen Frey, but you need to check out ‘boys of summer’ by Don Henley… the best solo effort of any of Eagles, for my money

That is Don Henley. He looks different without the fro. I just became a member today. Love your channel

That is Don Henley on the drums. The 'fro was a perm. Those were very popular in the late '70s and early '80s for both men and women.

I was fortunate enough to have been raised on this kind of music! The Eagles are amazing!! I'm so glad u are able to get away with reacting to them!! U really can't go wrong with any song by them! And that was Don Henley on the drums just minus the fro! Lol Another group u should check out is Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young! 🙏 U will love them!

I was born in 1964 the last year of the Baby Boomers, I am 59 years old and I am so glad I grew up in the 60's 70's and 80's, The artists back then would cross Genres and write songs for each other and perform together, The Radio Stations in the 60's and 70's would play all the genres. We listened to all the best songs from all of the best artists, It was a golden age of music. The Music brought everyone together, We all partied together. It was all about the music. It was more of a carefree time

Eagles started out in California as a country rock band with Bernie Leaden on guitar. This song is from that era. At a certain point Glen and Don wanted to rock it up more. Bernie quit and the Eagles asked Joe Walsh to join. That kinda marks the point that they truly became a "rock" band. That's Don on drums. He got a haircut. No mo fro. This sone resonated with people because it came out at a time when there was a lot of conflict in the country with Viet Nam and Watergate and other issues putting society on edge. Then this song comes out and it was exactly what people needed to hear...."Take it easy, man. You're too serious right now."

The early Eagles were a soft/Country rock band. They asked Joe Walsh to join them for a more guitar heavy sound. After Joe Walsh joined the Eagles the Album Hotel California came out.

All of the songs from this performance were awesome. For the Hotel California performance Glenn Frey says "We didn't break up we just took a 14 year vacation". RIP Genn

A popular saying back in the day: I don't know whether to Take It Easy or Take It to the Limit One More Time.

Eagles harmonies have always been spot on. Henley is on the drums. They alternate their lead singer mostly based on whoever wrote the song. Such an amazingly talented group of guys. There's a reason they were one of the biggest bands of all time, and several of their songs are country. They were genre fluid.

This was their Hell Freezes Over tour. Because of this song there is a Statue of Glenn standing on a Corner of Winslow, AZ on old US 66. For Glenn Try You Belong To The City and Smuggler's Blues. There was a Video done for Life In The Fast Lane done in the late 70's for some one's TV Special. In the early 90's a group of country artists did a cover album Cross Threads, that was Eagles songs. The Blond Guitarist is Joe Walsh that did Life's been Good on his own. This song came out mid 70's. When they broke up the said that they'd get back together when "Hell freezes Over".

Eagles Forever Playlist could have like 15 songs on it. This one for sure. "Take It To the Limit" "New Kid in Town" "Life in the Fast Lane" "Lying Eyes" "In The Long Run" "Desperado" "Best of My Love" "I Cant Tell You Why" "Victim of Love" "Witchy Woman" "Heartache Tonight"

The Eagles broke up for several years telling the world that they would get back together “when hell freezes over”!This was the Hell Freezes Over concert & it was AMAZING! I saw them tour with this show & it was by far the best concert I’ve seen in my several decades of live shows. 2 & 1/2 hours of nothing but mega hits that the whole crowd knew every word to. Incomparable amount of talent on that stage!
@chrismorgan91539 күн бұрын
An album called "Common Threads" came out in the early 90s. It was nothing but covers of Eagles songs by various country artists. Travis Tritt did a great cover of "Take it Easy," and somehow he got all of The Eagles in the video. That's how hell froze over.
