Love this reaction. My dad died in 1990…..I was 14 and headed to high school. It was hard…..I thought I had been processing my grief, but 7 years later this song was released……and I instantly had a strong reaction to it. I still do. Every time I hear it. What resonates with me, is my dad…..as a kid, often our parents are our heroes…..my dad worked hard, he fought be baseball and hockey after working in a factory all day, when we wanted a sand box, he built us the biggest one on the block…….then suddenly he was gone. And it took me 7 years to realize that my dad was my hero. He still is, 34 years after he passed. And I have this song to thank for making me realize that as a young man. Great reaction!!!! ❤️

@@MikaylaMilayla sure! In October of 1990 my family went out to a friend's house in the country for some Sunday shenanigans when my Dad asked me to take a walk down to the river with him. On the way to the river he fell 50 feet off of a cliff and smashed into a huge boulder. I had to remember how to get back to the house I had never been to before, then had to direct the EMS personnel to his location, first by phone, then I had to help them find him! There was a full page article in "The Daily Times" in the Spring of 91.

So, some music info. Dave G, the singer in this band playing guitar was the drummer for Nirvana with Kurt Cobain…what also sucks is that their drummer Taylor Hawkins (in this band) passed a year or so ago unexpectedly. They’ve had a couple of concerts where Taylor’s teenage son filled in on a couple of songs in memory of his dad. Dave looked so proud but also you could tell how much he missed his friend and drummer in this band.

Yeah to bad Dave forced the vaccine on his “friend” or he would be forced to leave the band then after he caved he died a short time later unexpectedly 😢

A few years ago longtime drummer of the Foos passed away. There were 2 tribute concerts, one in UK and one in USA for Taylor Hawkins. Taylor’s teen age son Shane played on My Hero at both concerts. Not a dry eye in the house. He was phenomenal! I like the footage from the UK Wembley tribute the best as it shows Shane and his drumming skills close up. That’s one you should check out for sure. As others have mentioned on here as well. It’s on KZbin as a single so you don’t need to look through the whole concert video.

I know what you mean. I miss my adorable loving little boy who used to write me notes, saying how much he loved me ( I still have them saved) he was such a sweet little man and I loved every day with him. He is now 33 and it feels like I blinked and he’s an adult. Where did the time go? He is still a loving young man, he looks after me as a I have an illness and he is wonderful still. But some days I want that time back with mummy’s little man, when he promised that he would never leave me and would stay with me forever, and he hasn’t left me. It’s not what I wanted for him but he is perfectly happy doing it and even the district nurses have been impressed with his care of me. My darling boy.

The moment does indeed come. I'm a senior first aider. I had friends come to my city to see an art exhibition & I thought I would take them on a little detour past my childhood home. Except the traffic had stopped. I pull up & see 2 smashed up cars, 2 people wandering on the road & one unconscious in her car that was sparking as the battery must have been hit. I just jumped out of my car & into hers. People were screaming at me but we have laws to protect people who are trying to assist others. Turned the car off, checked the ladies ID & started to try to rouse her. Smoke was getting into the car so i shut off the vents. It was a bloody mess in there as her teeth were pushed into her lip from the airbag. It took a lot of sternum rubs to get her back with us. I told her what had happened & 2 guys managed to get the mangled door open & we got her out. The fireys thankfully turned up & i gave one of them her bag cos she didn't need to lose that in them putting out the fire. I got in my car & drove us home to my place where we had many stiff drinks but it all turned out fine. The accident I don't like to think of was on my way to work & it was a van vs small hatchback. That was a double fatality & gruesome. The driver's girlfriend was stuck in the car next to him & he had bones all sticking out of him & was very clearly deceased. All I could do was talk to her & try to get her to not look next to her cos I didn't want her to see her partner like that. I was so in shock I drove to work & got in & as soon as someone said "hey! How are you?" I just lost it. I got sent home cos I realised what I has just seen. Awful going back through that intersection & they were still messing about with clean up etc. That one haunted me a long time.

That's really interesting. All I've ever heard him say about the origins of the song are that (1) he's never felt inclined to hero-worship or felt the need to have someone in his life that he thinks of as being a hero, and (2) the song is therefore "about" the fact that larger-than-life heroes aren't needed. I believe you when you say that since then he's said it was about Kurt Cobain, so I'm in no way trying to argue with you-- I'm just explaining why I find that fact so interesting. I would throw in another fact (well, I think it's a fact, maybe someone would argue it's an opinion) for someone who doesn't know much about the Foo Fighters: in their earlier songs, which includes "My Hero", Dave Grohl didn't show nearly as much interest or care for lyrics that he did when penning later material. If you're searching for some deep symbolism or thinking that you're missing cultural references when trying to interpret lyrics for "My Hero" or other songs from this time frame, you're almost certainly wasting your time-- he'd just write something that sounded vaguely interesting/meaningful that fit the rhyme scheme and be done with it. This reminds me of early R.E.M., to the point where in their early years, when R.E.M. was touring, fans tell stories about Michael Stipe occasionally just bringing a book on stage and reading from it to the beat instead of singing lyrics. Whether those stories are apocryphal or not, there's no denying that their lyrics evolved from often being little more than a collection of words to telling coherent stories over time, and the Foo Fighters followed a similar path.

This song is about Kurt Cobain. Dave Grohl was the drummer of Nirvana before he started Foo Fighters with friends of Nirvana. This song is very powerful. A lot of their songs are very powerful. My favorite song by them is Big Me from their first album(self titled). It is a fun song and so 1990s. The video is a parody of those old Mentos commercials. They really picked up momentum from their 2nd album, The Colour And The Shape, which features one of the best songs ever written, Everlong. Monkey Wrench and this song, My Hero were also from that album. Dave is a great guy. He invites people in the crowd to come up and play songs with them. Kiss guy playing Monkey Wrench is a good one but my favorite guest appearance has to be Dave Chapelle, where he sang Radiohead's Creep with them at MSG.

I like this song. I think a lot of people might consider themselves as "ordinary", and for the most part we are, but at the same time we really aren't ordinary. We're all capable of being hero's. I think there's a natural human instinct in all of us to do good by others. Hold a door for someone. Help carry a bag. Help change a flat tire. Help move some furniture. Run into a burning building. Doesn't matter what it is; going out of your way to help a stranger not be in pain, is the most heroic and human thing anyone can do.

You’re daughters so cute!! That was awesome how kept that moment in the video! I can’t wait to see more reactions of this group, skillet, shine down and hopefully you end up dabbling into some of Three Days Grace older stuff! Adam Gaunthier is a beast

I got to see Three Days Grace live with Shinedown last year! As much as I miss Adam, Matt did an awesome job!! He needs to check out Seether too!!

I saw 3DG when Adam was still with them, I don't know who the lead singer is now, but I can't listen to him. Do you think he would enjoy Apocalyptica with Adam *I Don't Care* or Corey Taylor *I'm Not Jesus* ???

Simple song but incredibly great!! The live acoustic version is even better…. My hero….. it’s the regular people in your life that had an impact. The mom or dad that taught you how to be a good human, the firefighter, the nurse, the construction worker… it’s whoever had a positive impact on your growth. It’s not Superman or some other superhero…. It’s the regular person who taught you to be strong or compassionate, basically a good human.
