There's an even more amazing voice/guitar duet in the Just The Same Way (Live in Osaka 1980) HQ video. It happens just after the 3 minute mark and I think Steve is hitting a B5. It's a gorgeous sustained note and he does it twice. I'd link it but I'm afraid the comment won't post.

The second time you stopped it, you did it right at the point he sings "for tomorrow." It's a point where concert goers sing it with him. It's the song that Steve took Journey into superstsr status. Before Steve, their lable was going to drop them. In the end, with Neals' outro solo, was Steve's golden falsetto vocals no auto tune, just pure, live raw talent!

The keyboardist is Gregg Rolie, who sings Black Magic Woman in Santana. The guitarist with the wild fro was also in Santana...at 15 years old. Robert Fleischman was only with Journey for a few months before their manager, Herbie (also from Santana) decided he wanted Steve Perry to be lead singer. Herbie brought Steve in under the assumption (to others) he was the Portuguese brother of one of the roadies. He wanted Steve to get a feel for the band. Afterwards, Herbie assimilated Steve into the band by having he and Gregg do several duets together, before Steve took on sole lead.

This was a huge hit & still one of my favorites. Early Journey had a bit of a different sound. Perry had been part of The Sullies before Journey. I believe they were more bluesy. I’m 55 now. Seem tons of rock shows in my life. Saw Journey three times in the 1980’s. Only band I ever saw live that sounded almost 100% as good as studio recordings. Steve Perry had a one of a kind voice ( he doesn’t now..he’s in his 70’s and his voice is scratchy, gravely, raw and he’s lost his insane vocal range). He still puts out music but it’s nothing like stuff he sang in Journey. I’d give anything to go back in time to see them again. Never paid more that $15 each time for a ticket either. This song was off their first album and was either their first single release/video release i think. It’s always been one of my favs by them because of that insane guitar solo that Steve sings too on a single breath. It’s a lllooonnnnggh guitar solo. A bit of rock trivia..guitarist with the Afro and silky robe on is Neil Schon who was a/the founding member and came to Journey from playing with Santana. I hate it for new Journey fans because the current band lineup still touring is nowhere near as good as early alive Journey. Plus it costs a whole lot more than $15 to see them. 😳

"Wheel in the Sky" was released in 1978 and describes the newly arrived winter, as he is lamenting not having been home "in a year or more." He is missing home and longing to return and reconnect with an unnamed woman, and he hopes that "she holds on a little bit longer." He sings forlornly of "running down a dusty road" and admits, "I can't take this very much longer." Throughout the refrain narrator notes the "wheel in the sky" which "keeps on turning," and hence can be interpreted as Diane Valory's metaphor for the various twists and turns of the narrator's life on the road as he repeatedly emphasizes, "I don't know where I'll be tomorrow." Alternatively, the wheel in the sky has often denoted the sun, which "keeps turning" as the Earth rotates on its axis, with each successive turn marking the passage of another day, bringing one closer to an anticipated date or event-in this case the narrator's reunion with the woman.

BP, you were on the right track. The Great Wheel in the Sky is the apparent "backdrop", upon which, the sun, the moon, and the stars/constellations APPEAR to spin above us.
