He's 23 You're 43 Ren is 33 Synchronicity Word from Samuel Perry-Falvey, the cinematographer, there were 4 takes and the video uses 2 of them; 1 for the fixed cams and 1 for the handheld because otherwise it'd be seen in the fixed cam shots. They use the same mic set up for all the live takes I've watched, and I don't think there's a boom of any type, because he gets the same sound from The Tale of Jenny & Screech (full) which is them walking through the streets and inside buildings with the camera swinging all around him, and the sound is very stable throughout. As for Ren's training, he's self-taught on guitar using tutorials and learning from other guitarists on KZbin. He's spent a lot of time where he couldn't really leave his bed, so practicing and watching videos was most of his life for years. For example, you can hear a lot of David Gilmour influence in his sound when he's doing the more bluesy pieces like towards the end of It's a Man's World. Oh, yeah, and Black Pegasis - He totally mentioned you by name when he was scrolling through reactions on his feed during the stream he did after the Illest of Our Time release. He got really choked up at all the reactions that came out right after. ❤ For the rap tracks, you totally need to sit Andiroo down in front of The Hunger and Losing It and Power. Gensis and What You Want are both great, too, but I think the first three are really the most technically impressive.

the story of how Ren & Sam met and became friends was just as impressive as their musical talents. Ren was out busking but wasn’t feeling great. so, he wrapped up early and started walking home. he happened to notice some kid on a corner, singing his heart out. Ren recognized Sam’s talents and explained that he wasn’t getting any attention due to nobody being able to hear him. Ren offered Sam his mic and speaker, then started playing guitar and told Sam he can keep whatever they make. a song or two in and the crowds grew exponentially larger! the rest are now history.

To the best of my knowledge and research, Yes, it's live, one take. He did it 4 times and chose the one he liked the best. He does all of his music live. His trilogy Jenny's tale, Screech's tale and Violet's tale are done each one live and one take. They should be watched in that order to get the best experience. To go along with Hi Ren, his song Sick Boi is like a chapter in this part.
@Fenthule Жыл бұрын
@@Pygon2 no it was indeed done in a single take, they had multiple cameras set up and recording the whole way through so they're only cutting the camera from one to the next, it is indeed a single one take performance where he does the whole song through. The cinematographer left a comment under one of the first reactors (I've watched dozens by now couldn't tell you who lol) videos explaining it in great detail.
@Lloocii Жыл бұрын
@@Fenthule You sound like you're sure of this but you can clearly see that the camera isn't in frame for the close ups and then shoots shots from spots that would have it in frame. I'm not an expert and I don't have any inside info but logic would suggest it's 2 takes. Look at the camera on the line "stand on my own two feet" and how close up it is. Then look at the shot prior. Just from the angle of the 2nd shot we can tell that he's not super zoomed in for that shot or he'd have to be in the ground. He's in his face with a camera yet not there 1 second before.
@vickyterry3150 Жыл бұрын
@@Fenthule I read Samuel's comment too (and I can't remember which reaction either!) but I thought he said the audio was one take--Ren sang it straight through--but the video itself was a couple of takes based on camera angles. I may not remember it correctly, though.
@supertuscans9512 Жыл бұрын
I saw a comment by Sam on Hi Ren. The video was taken from the fourth take and it is all one take , filmed on three cameras, until the point where Ren rises to his feet and they changed to a close up.

Sick boi, genesis and I know he would appreciate "the big push - I shot the sheriff, road to Zion, hip hop" he did. And his live cover video with his band is just amazing

This was dope! Yes, please bring him back - the intelligence and the layers of Ren's music needs expertise - you and Andy got it! What to listen to? It's like approaching NF - there is so much, only with Ren - it's not just one path, one genre or one journey - it's a Reniverse with a web of wormholes and different realities, lol! Rap - each song is different, you experienced it, BP, with Genesis, Hunger and Illest being all different - the consistency is the bars and flows are crazy good! Ones you haven't seen yet, but are just as good like others mentioned - Loosing it (insane flow switches - it's roller-coaster ride) What you Want is a homage to Beastie Boys, Power is both deep and uplifting vibe (you get to see Sam (who does all Ren's videos) driving the car as Ren jams. And also the Big Push for Andy - both covers and originals are FIRE! Sweet Little Lady live acoustic, Watch Out live (originals) War Pigs, Wade in the Water - ones I don't think you've seen - they're great! Oh, Bongo Bong and Englishman in NY covers are superb - live, but not busking. Did you react to Money Game 2? Please consider making a Ren playlist at this point, lol!

Audio was done in one take, they used Take Four of four, which was also the source of most of the visuals. Use fixed cameras plus a handheld. As far as I know the lavalier mic was the sound source. Guitar and vocals were fed into his phone in his back pocket. Think they might have used Zoom, but I'm no expert.

For me, the most remarkable aspect of the lyrics and performance is in two halves. The first half is Ren trying to fight his corner, his music and wanting to be well, not needing his voice, and the voice crushing him each time, the last half, a more calm and quiet but resolute Ren, seeing that combatting the voice has got him nowhere, and his real victory is believing in his own art and skill, not needing the voice to agree, and pushing the voice to the point where it loses it and then falls silent. I don't speak from personal experience, but I do work as a psychiatric nurse with people living with psychosis, and this hit me hard but in a good way, especially that monologue at the end.
