You know you were around through the 80's when you see the codpiece and never give it a thought, lol, we saw A LOT. I graduated in '87, being born in '69 in a music (of every kind) loving family, grew up with 60's tunes still popular added to 70's and 80's...best time EVER. This song was the best! Haven't you ever seen a guy in a red leather codpiece before?? He also rocked them paired with thigh-high black patent leather boots~ now, THAT was a look!! Wow, what a great time to be young~ we had such a blast at the clubs!! And we were fully integrated~ everyone, every color, every orientation (some of the best dance clubs were "gay" clubs)!. Race wasn't a "thing" then~ we all got along, and loved it! What went wrong? When did that stop? It makes me very sad that we seem to have gone backwards to a degree, instead of continuing the love and becoming even closer. Anyway, Cameo is my jam~ I absolutely can't sit still when they come on!!! 😍😍😍

Here's a 2016 interview When he was being outfitted for the “Word Up” video, he was dressed in black spandex - “As usual,” After slipping into that famed one-piece, he was handed a box and peeked inside. “Then I shut the box really fast,” Blackmon said. “Inside was this red cup. I said, ‘I’m not wearing this!’ But they talked me into it, and it has become famous around the world. I am asked about it all the time.” The 60-year-old Blackmon still wears that gear onstage at Westgate in the Cameo funk-a-thon in the Cabaret.
