🤠🤠. 70 year old Southern country woman here. 💥🔥🔥 All of these were great country singers. They were considered the best of the best but also at that time. This is back when the standard in wearing your hair was at a crew cut. If anybody even had their hair touching their ears they were somebody who didn't CONFORM to what they figured was proper decent country singers. So there were several singers and these four started it that was considered the OUTLAWS of country music. Simply because they wanted to make music the way they wanted to and not just what the regular people considered proper. Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson's were the first ones to tell the country music industry ( SCREW YOU ) I'm going to do my music the way I want to. Hank Williams S r , was another one. But anyhow when these four country music Legends decided to make their own music on their OWN records , to flip the middle finger at the proper country music industry at that time. They named their group THE HIGHWAYMEN , since they were considered the outlaws of country music. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🤠🤠🤠🤠🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😘😘🥰🥰

Waylon Jennings is the original “outlaw”. He was the one who recorded using his band on his records, produced his records, had the first million country record, kicked a twenty year drug habit cold turkey and had the best rocking/country/soul voice, ever. He was a good songwriter and a great wit. His fourth wife, the beautiful singer, songwriter, Jessi Colter, was his true love. They were married 32 years until his death from diabetes on Feb.13, 2002. They have one son, singer Shooter Jennings. Waylon had four children by previous marriages and Jessi has one daughter by her first marriage to musician,Duane Eddy. He was a true original and did things his way! He and Willie Nelson had quite a few hits together. Johnny Cash and Waylon were close friends and roomed together in the ‘60s.

Kristofferson is an underrated badass. Before he made it in music, he worked as a a janitor at a recording studio in Nashville on the weekends and was a commercial helicopter pilot during the week. At the studio he bumped into June Carter Cash and gave her a demo tape to give to Johnny, and she did, but Johnny just tossed it in a pile of demos people gave him without listening to it. After a few weeks of not hearing anything, Kris decided he’d get Cash’s attention and landed a helicopter in his front yard demanding to have his tape listened to. All four of the Highwaymen are legends, and you should definitely check out Waylon; a solid 90% of the songs he recorded are solid country gold and he basically created outlaw country.

A highwayman would have been in Europe; England or France for example. They would rob the coaches and often the private carriages of rich people because there would be more jewelry and money to be had from them than from a group of middle to lower class working people. Plus he mentioned his blade - swords were more prevalent in Europe than the USA. You should do "Ghost Riders in the Sky" by the Highwaymen. It's a favorite of mine. Johnny Cash's "The Long Black Veil" is a good song. Kris Kristofferson wrote "Why Me Lord" I think you would like it. You should listen to "Seven Spanish Angels" sung by Willie Nelson and Ray Charles. I've been really enjoying your reactions to country music.

Wasn’t Waylon Jennings the narrator on the Duke’s of Hazzard? Isn’t it also him singing the song for the show into? “Just some good ole boys, never meaning no harm…”

WAYLON is the FATHER of outlaw music - Willie Nelson says he is probably the best voice in country!!! He does it all - writes, a awesome guitar player, performer & just an ICON!!!! There will never be another artist that will change country music for the better!!!! Waylon ROCKS!!! I lived across the alley from his studio in Nashville back in the 70's & heard the best music!! His song with Hank Williams Jr about Hanks dad is a must see!!!! Waylon sings the damn builder part of this!!! I am 75 & still to his music all the time!!!!

So, as far as I see this song it is about the spirit of exploration, of innovation, the spirit of doing something every else says is impossible. That spirit that never dies.
