Fun fact: Iron Maiden has not used tour buses in a long, long time. Bruce Dickinson, the singer, is a licensed pilot type rated on multiple airliner-sized jets and he flies the band and crew from place to place while touring. The had a Boeing 757 for years, but upgraded to a 747 a few years back. The jet is known as "Ed Force One"! So cool.

Dad rock is a relative term. This came out when I was 12 and am now pushing 50. My son loves Iron Maiden and I even took him to see them last year. I guess it depends on the age you are when you first hear them. I love all of their music from the different eras and it’s good to see them still toucans recording. Lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, is an author, public speaker, high level competitive fencer, cancer survivor, and airline pilot along with his work with Iron Maiden and a solo career. He actually pilots the band’s own plane while on tour.

Firstly , Iron Maiden are not satanic, they have written on the subject, like many other good VS evil subjects, They are story tellers and even act some songs out in costumed theatrics. This song wasted years I would consider a power ballad. It's one of their more mellow songs, and the lyrics are pretty straight forward. I recommend you stay with the Maiden train...it puts a smile on your face! Try reacting also to Fear of The Dark / Run to the Hills / 2 Minutes 2 Midnight / Brave New World / Chains of Misery / Book of Souls

I wouldn’t say Maiden is “dad rock” but they are amongst the peak of classic heavy metal bordering on power metal before sub genres were defined. With them you’ll find the pioneers of the genre in bands like Judas Priest or the god among men Ozzy/Sabbath. If you really want to see the roots definitely check out solo Ozzy Osbourne or Black Sabbath (their debut was 1970 so they predate all the metal you’ve listened to and laid the foundation for all of those bands)

I was 15 years old and was a huge Iron maiden fan and went to see them live in Spokane, Wa. in 1988. This was still during the time of the Satanic panic. Gun and Roses opened for them and Iron Maiden played an incredible show. Needless to say, I was on cloud nine leaving the arena having just seen my musical heroes. As we are leaving, a bunch of religious fanatics had setup a stage with banners and PA, telling us to repent from Satan and this devil music. I just thought too myself yall have no clue what this band was about and so quick to judge. Iron Maiden are great story tellers of history and literature, They are a very well educated band that liked to put on a theatrical performance for their fans and I was very thankful to have experienced their music.
