It's been a long time since I heard this song, but it brought me right back to an 80's beer hall with the band playing Lucille and the entire audience singing along with the chorus. Good times. 🍺🎶

Ok, now check out Ruby; another great story-song by Kenny about a Vietnam vet. Ruben James is another 🔥🔥 song from Kenny with a life lesson. Marty Robbins is another great one. Start with Big Iron, El Paso, Feleena (from El Paso), and El Paso City. The last 3 are a fantastic trilogy and should be done in that order, or it won't make sense. Trust me, you will love them. They are country western songs since you like knowing genres. 🤘Rock on, Kelly 🤘Edited to add: BP was right, he NOPED out.

Yeah, Marty Robbins sure could tell a story through music. I haven't heard the final song in the "El Paso Trilogy" yet. Kenny Rogers songs are always lessons. I love storytelling singers because they do create the movie in your mind. Teach your children to be leaders of themselves, not followers. Never let another person pull you into their lies, for when you lie you have to keep making up more lies to cover the first lie. Tell your friends, I will not lie for you, I will not expose you unless you are hurting someone else or a threat to yourself but do not use me to lie for you. Your friends will respect you and you will respect yourself. Teach your children to try new things, sports, art, music, etc. You do not have to be the best, you may try it and say, this is not for me. That's great you just learned something new. It will give you confidence because you will understand and be able to join in when others talk about things. That's how you gain knowledge and confidence.

Hey Don, great to see you. Always appreciate your imput and back and firth with B.P. Kenny can tell a story. There is video out there of Kenny singing "Lucille" live and with audience participation. "Lucille" has become one of those songs like Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" where the audience loves to sing along with the hook. Now its time to check out "Ruby". This song is from way back when Kenny was in the group, The First Edition , back in the 60's. Kenny has some great cross over songs too: " She Believes In Me". "Through The Years" Also another duet with Dolly is: "We've Got Tonight". (video) This was originally recorded with Sheena Easton, but that Dolly/Kenny magic just makes it better in a live performance.

It's funny how you can not hear a song for 20 or 30 years, yet before the intro is halfway done, you're hearing the lyrics in your head. Proof of a timeless classic hit. Btw yes, he walked away from her before they did anything. Listen to that last verse again if you think he didn't. This would actually work in the opposite direction as well, with some tweaks lyrically to swap the gender roles.

BP, when it comes to men who are/were players, the goat is Kenny Rogers. Back in the pre-internet days before social media, Kenny had a toll-free 1-800 number that women could call if they wanted to hook up sexually with him when he came to their town on tour. Apparently he was known to answer the calls personally, or have the caller leave a message he'd return. Basically he'd take appointments without ever seeing them first! He'd talk about the number in interviews, putting the number out there, so he'd get more calls. This is 100% true.

I absolutely have Always taken this story to mean that the singer did not go through with the affair due to her husband coming in and telling his story. The singer wanted to go through with the rendezvous, but could not bring himself to go through with it. So he left her BEFORE anything happened. Not afterward. The lyrics said “that when she came to him, he couldn’t hold her.” So. Unless he proceeded without holding her, nothing else happened between them.
