Obscure? There's nothing obscure about this. This is early Bee Gees. Their disco era was long after they started. They were singing for more than a decade before that, and making hits. I grew up on this... it was never obscure.

Whatever the new “fad” in music, they seamlessly create music that reflects what people enjoy. And they truly enjoyed doing it…you can see that in the way they perform.

This was their comeback song, after they paused their early career for various difficulties. If I’m not mistaken, this was their first song using falsetto, which later became a standard. Great song. The interviewer asked Barry if he thought that his twin brothers had an invisible connection with their harmonies because they were twins. You are probably one of those folks that only knows The Bee Gees from their Disco Phase. These guys had a career that lasted more than 40 years and there were several "phases" in their career. They had their first hit (Spicks and Specks) in 1966. "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" was from the tortured ballad phase, which came in-between their "British Invasion" and "Disco" phases. The truth is The Bee Gees were never really a disco band; they just had a few disco hits. Even during their so-called Disco phase, they made a lot of great non-disco music. This phase of their career saw great success. This song came from one of their most critically acclaimed albums (Trafalger) and was their first song to reach number 1 on the music charts. Two other big hits from this period were "Lonely Days" and "Run To Me." You really should go check out the other phases of The Bee Gees career. Their catalogue is extensive and is probably the deepest rabbit hole there is (yes, even deeper than The Beatles). Start with 2 great songs from their earliest days "Massachusetts" and "To Love Somebody." Then check out 2 songs from their later career "Alone" and "Man In The Middle."

Wrong pick BP. It's the other brother. His name is Robin. And he has the most beautiful haunting voice ever. He did a lot of lead singing in the 60s. But he and Barry shared lead on many of their popular songs. The two of them also wrote many of the songs. The third brother is Maurice (pronounced Morris) who also has an amazing voice. Listen to the song I started a joke (live version 1989 from Melbourne) that's the best version. Also check out Man in the Middle 2001 (live by request) Maurice does lead on that song. You have so much to learn about the Bee Gees. They had the early Bee Gees, the disco Bee Gees, the Bee Gees of the 80’s, the 90’s the 2000’s. Listen to some later music from them. Kiss of Life or This is Where I Came in are good starts. Robin, with his distinctive voice, Barry singing falsetto or not, Maurice taking lead on songs like Man in the Middle. Robin with his solo career which he managed along side his career with his brothers. By the way this song was written the day Robin went over to Barry’s to say they should get together again after their short break up.

IMO, they are the most talented group, & exceptional singers of all time! Most people correlate the Bee Gees with the disco era(ie:Saturday Night Fever soundtrack ) but they did sooo much more before & after that era. They had so many folk, rock, country & pop hits throughout 40+ yrs! Thx for sharing Black Pegasus :)

I loved them up to that point and was extremely disappointed in the sellout to crappy "music".

There was so much great BeeGees music BEFORE the Disco Era. There were a lot of ballads. I think Robin sang lead on this one.

"To Love Somebody" from german tv 1967, also "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "Massachussets", "First of May", their 1960's songs are brilliant.

You have no idea how amazing the brothers gibb were! Because I was born in 72 my absolute favorite song is how deep is your love. I was too young to see the movie and I was too young to realize how extensive their catalog is. When I got into my 30s I discovered them and their songs. So amazing. They even put out a new album that I bought and I loved it. 'this is just where I came in' I think. Great great album I loved it. Their proudest moment was being inducted into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame and publishing over 1000 songs most of them recorded by other artists. Truly amazing ❤❤❤

Fun fact: there was a fourth BeeGee, Andy Gibb. He died in 1988 at age 30. The BeeGees are one of the best.

To Love Somebody, one of the most beautiful ever written. Barry, a prolific songwriter, wrote it for Otis Redding who passed before recording it.

If one grew up listening to the BeesGees this was truly their sound. The disco era was short-lived and shocked their fanbase. It did however, bring an entirely new generation to their music. You need to hear "New York Mining Disaster 1941"

Al Green covered this. How Can You Mend A Broken Heart was the last #1 hit by the Bee Gees in 1970 before their comeback hit called Jive Talkin' in 1975😮😊when their Disco phase began. They would eventually become the best selling Disco act of all time by the end of the 1970's😮😊😊

That high Disco sound only started in the Disco era for the movie Saturday Night Fever.....Barry has more than one voice, his earlier stuff could sound deeper, and his brothers did have some songs that they were the lead

The BeeGees are often listed as the fourth most successful composers/performers of popular music. I have seen reports that BeeGees compositions sold 350 million records. Either as a trio, individually or by other A list artists.

FYI-Bee Gees have been performing and recording since 1963! Check out I Started A Joke-one of their finest that will tug at your heart strings. This is how the Bee Gees sounded back in the day and how most of us heard them back in the day-the falsetto style later was an aberration of their sound.
