He produced it. There is an old video that ren shares his favorite possessions in his home. One of them was his speakers. He said he used to think he was mixing stuff well until he got good speakers and realized he had been mixing "trash" (though it's still fire)

Freckled Angels was a mix of stuff he got back from the Sony deal, recordings made with Trick the Fox but abandoned when he got ill, and new stuff he recorded at home in his bedroom, but not the better equipment and that much more skill that he has now. he said in one of the interviews that he was doing whatever he could to have one complete album to his name, in case he died. I like the way he redevelops and reworks songs, 1, 2, 3. Done isn't always finished. also, ran has lots of movie references scattered around in his work. old stuff too.

I think especially Pt1 is a lot older like 2010-2011. You can tell from the lyrics, it is a teenage dream (and the fact that it is coming true is amazing)

If Ren didn't get so sick I think he would have blown up back then. Look at how far Sam Tomkins has come in the 13 years since Ren first found him busking on the street. I've heard that Ren was heading home, exhausted after a long day busking and saw Sam singing his heart out acapella. He offered up his guitar, but Sam said he couldn't play, so Ren sat down and accompanied Sam for hours. Apparently Sam was overwhelmed that he earned over £200 for the set and Ren wouldn't take any of it. The friendship was born and they're so amazing together. It's great to see how far Sam has come, and well deserved too - He's amazing ❤️‍🔥 But, it's bitter-sweet when Our Boi was spent so many years fighting Lyme disease, and still made the most vulnerable and inspirational music I've ever heard 🥺 Ren is a Unicorn 🦄❤

Andiroo: Watch Sean Connery in “Goldfinger”. That Is the gold standard (no pun intended) of all Bond movies. Rigger Moore’s best is the Bond film “For Your Eyes Only”. You can’t go wrong with these two films. Enjoy.

No he wasn't on a label, own label and self published for the Freckled Angels album. Love Music Part 1 was older, it is from the days of Trick The Fox, he may have used that recording (might be with Sony but was never released under it).

Ska is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae. It combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. Ska is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the off beat. so... no... horns aren't necessarily a distinctive component of ska.

Nice copy and paste from Wikipedia ... However Rens Ska sounds more like ska punk than the original form and given he is from the UK and grew up hearing bands like The Clash and the Specials I would say that's most likely the larger influence
@N.Sloane
@N.Sloane Жыл бұрын
@@ninjabassonline yeah you can tell he was influenced by the Clash, The Specials, Reel Big Fish, maybe some Skatelites. But I think he also infuses a little reggae in there because while it's punk-ish it's got a little soothing island sound in there. I wouldn't think to try to pigeonhole him into a singular sound because he infuses everything so well, like the genre bending wizard that he is.

its not just SKA its UK SKA he's performing where the it comes from the punk bands who fused traditional SKA with the the 3 minute fast punk energy sounds of the late 1970s early 1980s examples of the UK SKA from The Specials(too much tooo young) The Selector(3 minute hero) The English Beat(Mirror in the bathroom).

Back when this album was made, half the tracks were done with the sony people before he got really sick. Those tracks sat for like 6 years until he was well enough to get back to it and did the rest of the tracks on his own. So the thought that it doesn't sound like Ren produced some of these, you're right.

Enjoy your videos. Off topic, since you mentioned it, knife and gun violence is not the same. All terrible, of course, but not the same. I don't recall the exact number, but fatal stabbings in the UK, Wales last year was like 250. Gun deaths in the US was well over 20,000. Roughly 50,000 if you include suicide. Even if you adjust for population it's not remotely comparable.

The Love Music songs, and the Money Game songs, remind me of something I heard years ago. Basically artists sometimes will keep perfecting and changing a song. It is like he had an idea of a concept, but wanted to improve upon it. What is crazy is that each song has its own lyrics completely different from the others, but still have the same flavor.

Love music part 1 is one of the tracks he was recording for the record label as he got sick. There is an old KZbin video kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3eTZKycZtZgg6c of him playing live as 'Trick the fox' so I think Andy is on point about the track production, but I assume he mixed it up again for when he eventually released it on the freckled angels project.

A lot of these stabbings in the UK and AUS in recent times are young kids born from either drug abuse or dysfunctional parents with no discipline or guidance. Also the rate of youth using ice compared to old school smoko is alarming.

Half of the tracks on the Freckled Angels album had been recorded for the Sony album in 2010/11 (when he was 20/21) but the album was not completed/released due to his illness. Not sure if this was one of the Sony tracks, but if so that might explain why the production is different from his later stuff.

Old ska had a weird requirement of a horn but us Ska heads have pushed past that now haha although a lot of tracks still have brass on. You should check out Bumpin Uglies (actually he raps too, Hard liqour.), Sublime, slightly stoopid, simplified, and you have to already know Collie Buddz - Blind to you. If you havent heard Collie Buddz thats a 40 momment.

Ska was born in Jamaica in the 50's and actually emerged before reggae. It typically has a walking bassline and the the main tune is often played on the off beat, or the up stroke on the guitar. While horns do feature prominently in Ska, it doesn't have to be there to be categorised as Ska.
@dudeatx
@dudeatx Жыл бұрын
20:20. No horns are needed, ska simply means the offbeat of every beat is emphasised usually with a guitar stab/upstroke. Hence, it goes ska, ska, ska - that's why it's called ska! I think what you were picking up on the first track was a salsa rhythm. Although, there is cross fertilisation - ska, for me at least, definitely has a Latin feel - coming from the Caribbean as it does.
