Of course you are not offended. No one is offended. No one is even pretending to be offended. People who constantly brag about not being ''woke'', love to project other people's ''wokeness'' with no evidence. They love to say ''I'm not allowed to say this but...'' or ''I'm probably gonna get cancelled for saying this but...'' when in reality no one gives a shit what they say or think, and they know it. They WISH people would object. It's just them acting important and trying to come off as rebellious and brave with no personal risk. Even assuming women are going to object to what they say just because they are women, is to accuse women of being naturally unreasonable and whiney. I don't know a single women who cares. Some men just like to pretend they do just to appear edgy. That''s kinda what's happening in this reaction. Outside of half a dozen ideologue feminists, women are pretty reasonable, in my experience, but that doesn't suit some men's narrative.

@@emdiar6588 Don’t do it myself (although sometimes I’m tempted), but I have seen women (tongue-in-cheek) pretend to be offended, just because it seems to make a certain kind of man feel like he’s bravely pushing the boundaries. Makes the man/ men happy, and you can have a good laugh about it afterwards. Win, win, I say.

I'm 62 and I always thought rap should have ended after Grandmaster flash (with the possible exception of Eminem's early stuff). Then Hi Ren popped up in my news feed and now Im hooked on him. I think I always saw rap as being the same inane, monotonous, repetitive drivel full of constant references to n*gg*rs, hoes and popping caps in bottoms. Ren's rapping is a totally different beast, with meaningful, deep lyrics, and amazing beats. Now I am learning to appreciate the genre, if Ren has a genre apart from being Ren.

Totally agree with you, loved Grandmaster Flash and that era of music/rap, the music made sense, you could understand every word. Rens music is so unique and meaningful, perfect voice, great guitarist, writer, actor, he’s got it all! And yes I’m nearing 60, and my husband who thinks the same is 62!

I’m 63 and got in to reaction videos during the pandemic cuz I loved that the younger generation is listening to my generation of music from the 70’s and 80’s. Then I came across REN about a year ago and I’ve been hooked ever since. This guy has a rare talent that I haven’t seen in decades.

I’m 62 floyd, Bowie, T Rex, R&B soul, & many other genres except Rap, until I saw a Ren video of him busking, jumped down the Ren rabbit hole, now because of Ren, I’m listening to NF, Tom Mc Donald, Dax, it all started with Ren, reminds me of how I felt when I first saw Sparks, he has re ignited my passion for music, crazy how so many of us oldies love his music. Talent is Talent, we have lived through enough decades of music, to recognise genius when we hear & see it. X

On Losing It you'll notice Ren calls it a Retake. He has a series of retakes where he raps over other people's tracks. From Fat Boy Slim to the Foo Fighters. Another great reaction. Enjoyed listening to Don's verse on Jungle Breed too.

He usually says the original artists name within the track too, like on Losing It the last thing he says is “Fisher”. And in “right here, right now” he’s says something about “fat boy slim on the track” he also does a retake on Bittersweet Symphony and one of the members of the ordinal band. (Sy from The Verve) sent Ren a guitar :)

I’ll blow your stats.. I’m a 72 yo old Gma who was a teenager in the 60s, when my parents thought the world was going to end bc of the length of The Beatle’s hair, and they weren’t the only ones thinking that!!!! I enjoy many genres of music, but never EVER listened to rap.. but since hearing Ren, and digging further into his music, I now I like it.. and all it’s depth. Gotta say tho, having watched many reactions to his videos.. there are several younger (professed rapper) type reactors, who just don’t get him. They can’t follow what he’s saying - nor (it seems) do they get the connections he’s trying to make. It would be very interesting to see who would attend his concerts; he certainly isn’t ‘run-of-the-mill’ in ANY way. Thank-you for your thoughtful reactions - very enjoyable, even for us ‘oldies’!!

I loved watching that reaction - thanks both. Your appreciation of Ren's music is always a pleasure, but the whole memory lane vibe had me laughing out loud more than once. Class. Also wanted to give Don a shout out for his great line when talking about the last generation to grow up without cell phones; "There was a freedom to being unreachable." So true! I've been trying to explain this to my lad for years. I'm stealing that line.

first time i watched “what you want” i immediately thought the beasties vibe was a cool, easy tribute. then came the coveralls and moves that mimicked “intergalactic.” even better. and then the line “fresh like grass when the grass is green” hit and i realized how deep the homage was going to go. in rhyme, flow, and cadence it’s a perfect callback to “fresh like a box of krispy kremes” from “three MCs and one DJ.” so many little easter eggs… freakin genius 💜

What does a Ren concert look like? I'd love for him to do a Gorillaz style concert on the internet with digital sign in for those of us who he can't travel to when he's better. And for us with fluctuating disabilities that could impact our ability to guarantee we could make it out of the house on any given day. The digital concert way it would minimise how much a concert would take out of him... physiological stress of travelling on tour and staying in different places...mean he only has to do one performance, also helps with the environmental triggers from a different environment on immune system and autoimmune cascade (irritants, temp, humidity, chemicals, air quality, pollens, air pressure, different water/ available foods etc) And his collaborators could come to him, and a small live audience

I was born in the 1950's. Inside Detroit. The bag of dog poop on fire placed on a porch was even then a Traditional part of our "Devil's Night" celebration. And hiding close by to see then elderly person open their door and stomp it out, would set us to hillariously laughing and running off. I grewup and came to learn the target of our attack knew of the tradition and played their part, also. Parents armed us with bars of soap to graffti windows with. Sometimes pointing out a neighbor NOT to target. Such as a very ill elder. Back then we knew the fear of the line: "I brought you into this world and I can Take you out!" Our territory was defined by our age and ouŕ parents. Who dutifully, stomped out bags of flaming poop, yelled in anger as doorbells were repeatedly rung, and groused the next day as they all washed their cars and the walls of their homes and commanded we help pull all that toilet paper off the bushes.

If I were to say it was lost, you guys would understand that I'm saying the form in which it existed is no longer.. the further along in generations will understand the context less and less getting to where it's assumed I'm saying the younger generations have no appreciation... The further removed people are from that time frame (to those trying to twist this is no longer about age it's about mindset... it just happens that those with more connection to the time frame will understand on a diff level.. one that doesn't make them angry over some strangers comment on thr internet.. one that they may even be able to emphasize with) the angrier they seem to be... their hesitation in life is heartbreaking (tho understood considering the bubble wrap those before them were after the older of our generation panicked at that thought of their kids having to come up like we did) It's those iconic connections that when you break it all down... from the movies and music to games played and stories told.. that kept connection even when the system tried to divide.. Division is only working again bc they've managed to detached us from our last lines of defense A Clockwork orange played as a long game got it worked .. is working.. they're winning and the truly twisted part is that we're seen as the enemy when our generation just may be the key

I love your breakdowns of the songs because lyrics and lyricism more than just the entirety of each song. Ren connects with so many of us for more reasons than I can list..... Between you and Knox, I've found some great hip hop and I'm a metalhead at heart

Hope you get to read this comment. The whole flaking nail polish was done on purpose as it was a purpose thing back in the day. It was a style Its a throw back to the 1990's grunge / punk. As a chicka I rocked it back then. Half for style half for being lazy too do a new coat 😝 I never would have caught the nail polish if you hadn't pointed that out. Thanks! I love watching yalls reactions. I get so much from it. Man Ren amazes me at every turn. He and his people helping him do his videos know there shiz! Got me all nostalgic with new flow on top of it lol

Hey fellas, just throwing you some love from Wales UK. Loving your Ren rabbit hole. Some info about Hi Ren that none of your guests have picked up on yet. At the end when Ren starts the yodle type sound with the guitaring,it is the first time that the Angel (Ren) and devil (guitar) characters stop arguing and work together in harmony. And just for fun, look up the 2021 Eminem 8 mile meme using she sells sea shells. Peace and love mi amigos😊

Spot on mate. Every one keeps saying she sells sea shells in Hi Ren was a reference to money game part 2. I kept telling them, nah it was a reference to one of his heroes Eminem. Finally someone else who knows. Thanks from an Englishman living in the valleys lol.

A Clockwork Orange has a different popularity in the UK. It was banned until Kubrick's death. I remember when it finally became available in the UK and young people were into it.

Ren & Friends the Concert. Opens with Sam Tompkins doing some of his solo stuff. Sam finishes his set with a Ren busking duet (Falling/Man's World etc). Chinchilla does a set of her solo stuff ending with a Ren busking duet (Sexual Healing etc). The Big Push do a busking session of covers. Ren does the Jenny/Screech/Violet trilogy, Money Game Part 1 as theatre. Ren does Money Game Part 2, Crucify Your Culture as multi-media presentation. Big Push play their original material, finishing with a couple of Romain Axisa tracks. Ren returns and plays early stuff through to rap stuff including Genesis, the Hunger & Losing it. Encore is Freckled Angels, It's Alright & Hi Ren (closing words of the concert "And I must not forget, we must not forget, that we are human beings")

I grew up in England and moved to the US in my early 20's - now in my early 40's. Clockwork Orange was a big deal in the 90's in England as it was re-released into the mainstream having been banned for a long time after its creation.

As a 40 year old FUQ boy myself... this had so much Nostalgia. Great review!!! You guys are the best. You need to watch the very end of What You Want (has a funny clip). Also, you mentioned Jurassic 5 and to this day they are still easily one of the best concerts I've ever seen live. I know he gets a lot of hate, but Macklemore can rock a show as well. I used to kick it with him before he blew up and the crazy thing is he had the same energy on stage back then for 15 people as he does now for thousands. Dope to see.
