Deep Purple are Rock royalty. This video documents the first time these 5 guys reunited to record an album after 11 years. They are hanging out and getting reacquainted. Has nothing to do with Women. Because he's almost certainly heard at least parts of Smoke on the Water, Highway Star and Child in Time even if he doesn't know the band already. In a movie or a commercial. Somewhere. Don't tell even tell me anyone would suggest any of the other songs on that album. Also this is a great song. Machine Head is my undisputed favorite album of all time though. From any artist. Every single song is amazing and very few bands ever release an album with ONLY bangers.

Saw this tour live in 1984. 2 minutes into the first song the power went out at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena, and the band couldn't continue for over 1/2 hour. They were ALL pissed off, but still put on a hell of a great show!

The album was released in 1984, and was their 11th album. But its was also their first studio album in 9 years, and this line-up in the band hadn't played together in 11 years. It sounds quite different from their earlier stuff. I Highly recommend checking out "Highway star" and "Child in Time" LIVE. both live. live if you can with deep purple. They would sometimes just jam on stage for long stretches of time in their concerts, just making stuff up as they were playing. They were (and are, saw them 2 years ago:P) insanely talented.

This is a reunion of the Deep Purple Mk II line-up. The song Hush that came out in the late 60s had a different singer. Most of their biggest hits are from this line-up that went separate ways in like 74. Then the Mk III line-up had David Coverdale (later founder of Whitesnake) on vocals w/Glenn Hughes (song Burn). Waaay to long a post to talk about Ronnie James Dio in Ranbow w/Richie Blackmore & Roger Glover of the MK II line-up in that band. This whole reunionn project was on pins & needles thus the disjointed video. Still a great album in 84. Bought it & loved it. Deep Purple & Rainbow...there's a rabbit hole to go down

SMOKE ON THE WATER is their most iconic song. The riff is probably the most recognizable riff in music. The song was created as the band was on the balcony of their hotel in Montreux, Switzerland. They were to play the Montreux Casino the following night. Frank Zappa was playing that night and someone with a flare gun set the place on fire. So they were watching it burn as the SMOKE CAME ACROSS THE WATER, hence the song.

These boys were on top of the world in 72. Put out some of the biggest records and then fell apart went their separate ways. After a decade apart they reunited for this. Hence, perfect strangers. They knew each other so well yet had to get reaquainted. The video is just that. Them hanging out. Making a new album.

This band is part of the British invasion, they are also considered one of the bands that founded hard rock, like led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. They got a LOT of big hits too. That's a forgettable song, you want to be blown away: Smoke on the water. Space trucking. Child in time. Stormbringer. Highway star. Woman from Tokyo. All those will blow you out.

Deep Purple is from 70s Europe and is the Rock Band that really started modern rock and heavy rock music. These music members of Deep Purple and the singer are some of the biggest talents that existed in the 70's and 80's. Almost all rock bands in the 80s and since the 80s had Deep Purple as idols and inspiration when making their own music. So yes, Deep Purple are world-renowned Rock legends.

They were a great band and flew around in a purple jet airplane. As with many of the great bands they were all amazing talents competing for the lights. As with all great minds there will be differences. I had the privilege of seeing them live and was in high school in the mid '70's. We saw all the big names that came to Oregon. Looking back, except for the war, it was a time of incredible artists and concerts.✌

My 1st ever listen , their brand new song "HUSH" . I was at a church bazaar of all places. John Lord's hammond organ playing gave me GOOSEBUMPS...16 yrs old then. Ran out and bought the single. Who would have known then i would meet them yrs later at a house party in Ct....aint life grand...wow this song here has some Zeppelin ish sounds in the way some of the notes are carried in his singing. Oh man, this is a rabbit hole worth going down. Deep purple (along with Sabbath and zep) are one of the three bands that invented what was known as Heavy Metal back in the late 60's. You have already experienced David coverdale the singer with Whitesnake. He became famous replacing Ian Gillan as singer in Deep Purple in 1973. Deep purple was created to have and as a result has had a rotating membership over the years however, the classic lineup known as mark 2 with ian gillan on vocals. This song is from the mark 2 line up when they reformed in 1984. You will recognise the song smoke on the water. Thats a riff i wouod expect to make your play list. Also check out the live version of child in time, speed king, fireball, strange kind of woman, black night, and highway star. From the mark 3 lineup with david coverdale, you should listen to burn. The original guitar player fir deep purple was Ritchie Blackmore. He then firmed the band Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio on vocals for the first few albums. You will love rainbow if you enjoy Dio. Finally, prior to joining deep purple, vocalist Ian Gillan was part of the original cast for the Broadway musical version of Jesus Christ Superstar. That is worth checking out. And after he left deep purple, he formed a solo band called Gillan (which featured guitar player Janic Gers, who is now with Iron Maiden).
