Great job, you had lots of help 👍 I hope someday I get to build one, not so big. Just a 2 person monolithic dome home, 1 master, 1 small office, 1 1/2 bath. Not big, but not small. Maybe the 800 circular plan. We're having hurricane's and tornadoes more than ever. I just want to feel safe. Congratulations on your home!

I love the aesthetics of the flowing lines of the structure. Of course that it is tornado, bullet, fire, termite, hurricane, earthquake and hail proof doesn't hurt either.

Thanks for the video I really enjoyed it. If it isnt to nosey of a question, I'd like to know the square footage of your lovely home and get an idea on the cost to construct not including the land. I am really interested in dome homes and would love to have one of my own someday.

Any problems yet? Seemed like the rebar was placed to close to the foam to give any actual reenforcement. IMOO.
@Domelady
@Domelady 5 жыл бұрын
On the contrary. If you look closely, the rebar is pinned to the foam about 1.5-2 inches off of it, thus allowing the concrete to be sprayed behind it, being totally encased in concrete once it is done. The strength is incomparable.

The dome has been occupied since 2005, and continues to have exceptional insulation qualities. There is maintenance, as with any structure, but the thermal mass provides heating and cooling beyond expectations.

That's exactly the "kit" I want, but it must be very costly to have done.
@Domelady
@Domelady 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure what mean by a 'kit'. The design is my own, and the technology is developed and promoted by Monolithic, but otherwise the same procedures apply with regard to blueprints, contracting, etc. The cost per sf is also comparable to a regular house, which for a custom home, is quite reasonable, at about $125/sf.
@Seahawksl1969
@Seahawksl1969 3 жыл бұрын
@@Domelady By "kit" I meant design of the design of the layout and footprint. I have seen it elsewhere as well. A larger main dome sloping downward to another dome. It is the design I want, but in my opinion... The cost should be far less than standard construction costs. I was in construction for over 30 years and built many residential and commercial buildings as well as giving quotes. Based on materials, labor and equipment usage, no dome structure should equate to more than 1/3 the total cost of a building of the same square footage.
@Domelady
@Domelady 3 жыл бұрын
@@Seahawksl1969 Between the shell and the slab, 200 tons of concrete. Spray foam for 4900 area feet. Cost of airform. Clearing the land. Many mistakes made, as no local contractors had a clue how to deal with a curved exterior wall and custom contractors had to be brought in to rip out and redo a lot of work. Still pretty good all-in cost, including the land, for $125/sf. However, I am just one creative person, and as I said, the design was 100% my creative vision. You should contact Monolithic (www.monolithic.org/), as they have decades of experience in the worldwide construction industry.

tell me please how many times that can use this airform
@protonneutron9046
@protonneutron9046 4 жыл бұрын
for a monolithic dome, one time. For an ecoshell, about 100 times
@Domelady
@Domelady 4 жыл бұрын
Kamal - On a monolithic dome, the airform protects the foam insulation, so it remains in place. With an ecoshell, there is no insulation, so the airform is peeled off the concrete and re-used as long it can be, without getting damaged, usually at least 8-10 times.

Radiant heat AND a wood heater is kinda redundant, isn't it? Well, better to have it and not need it than the other way around, I guess.
@Domelady

The radiant runs when not at home, the woodstove is used when at home. Also, if the power goes out, the woodstove is necessary. Not quite off-grid.

Get some facts from a google search: carbon emissions from concrete production. Not as much as you would think. And, It only has to be done once, not every 40-50 years like most houses built today.

+Owen Einarson No, lots of land is not necessary. A very small dome can be built, just like a small house can be built. One dome with a 30' diameter does not take up much space.

Nice design. But i dare not even TRY to estimate it's "carbon footprint", with all that concrete...
@protonneutron9046
@protonneutron9046 4 жыл бұрын
Concrete is very carbon friendly when total situation is factored. Local materials means not transporting across country. This house replaces about 200 wood homes due to its longevity. It saves about 50% on energy usage. About the greenest house you can make Vasily.
