Philodendron Paraiso Verde Care Tips, Rare Tropical Houseplant How To

**CORRECTION** While the variegation in my plant did change when moving it further from the light, I now realize that with more light, the plant produces lighter variegation. Sorry!

Thank you again Peggy for the info on this Phil. I bought one in February of this year from Thailand. It sat for several months doing nothing until late April it has not stopped growing yet! I also noticed a red to purple color on the edge of the new leaves in cool temperatures and that occasional solid green leaf Lol ! I have noticed most variegated plants revert back to green temporarily when they are stressed as in shipping etc. I think its due to survival mechanisms. Your plant is the biggest i have seen of this cultivar yet.

Mine has the reddish color along the margins as well. I think this is one of the prettiest Philodendrons I've seen recently. Enjoy your Paraiso Verde and may she continue to grow like a weed!

Ok mystery solved. Thanks Peggy! My baby just put out its first leaf with me and it was very light green with no variegation. I'll moved it to a shadier spot in my greenhouse. Also it's so nice to see your face!!

Hallo Peggy 😍, yeah yeah yippi. The Paraiso Verde, I falled in love, when I saw this plant first time. Your plant is sooo beautiful. I've bought this plant one month ago. I didn't buy a new dress, new shoes, etc etc. No, I bought a Paraiso Verde. 😂 My plant is much smaller, but has the same beautiful mixture of variegated colours. I put it directly from soil in water and will plant it next month in leca. I hope it won't be its last day. 😂 But I will try it. Have much fun with this fantastic plant. OUR "PARADISO VERDE" 😂

Thank you for this! I just managed to scoop up a very small Paraiso Verde on etsy for $40 - which was really surprising, but it looks in great shape. Good to hear your care tips and what's worked for you! Mine has two leaves, one just came out, the older one is the solid green, so I'm hoping light and humidity management will give me some nice variegation next leaf.

Don't be discouraged by the solid green leaves. I've learned that they can often be followed by leaves with amazing variegation. You got a great deal. Enjoy!

Hello Doretta, thank you for the kind words. I've never had a braided cylindrica, so I don't know if the braiding has any impacts the plant. I'm going to assume it does not. I care for my cylindrica in the same manner as my other sansevierias, keeping in mind that they may need watering even less frequently, since they store water. Also, be sure to use well draining soil as they are prone to root rot if over watered. Hope that helps!

Hello Beaste! I have done much experimentation with the variegation on this plant and find that it is normal for it to put out some solid or darker leaves. When I moved mine to less lighting, it did give me a leaf with higher variegation and the next one was darker. I've moved it back by the light and find the same results. Your plant is probably not reverting, it's probably just doing what they do. Enjoy your PV!

Hi Peggy, I recently picked up a cutting of this plant. Some people in my plant groups are saying that the temperature of the plant actually affects the variegation. (Warmer = Better variegation) Have you heard this or experimented with it?

Some say it's the lighting and others say it's the temp. I have 2 of these and they seem to put out whatever variegation they want. One leaf will be highly variegated and the next will be solid. Now, I just let it do its thing.

I have moved it into a darker area but I'm worried that two plain green leaves in a row could be a sure sign of reversion😅 Is there anything else I could do to help get a more variegated leaf? Welcome to the plant family! My first leaf was a solid green one. I moved the plant further from the light and the second leaf showed slight variegation. I now have it in an area that is partially shaded and the third leaf is lighter and shows more variegation. Hang in there. It may not be reversion. Good luck!

I've had that happen with propagations when the roots are still immature. If the roots are well developed and the plant remains limp, it may mean that the plant doesn't like moss and might do better using a different method. Hope that helps.

Will it give you another variegated leaf now that you have a full green one? I have one thst I paid a hefty price for and it just pushed out its first leaf and it's green 😬 Basically, is the variegation stable?

Yes, one solid leaf does not mean that your plant will only produce solid leaves going forward. I have a leaf about to unfurl and hope that it will be variegated. I moved it away from the light a bit and hope that will do the trick. Best of luck to you!

I simply put it in my plant area out of direct light from my grow light, since it had been in a dark box for few days. I didn't do anything major with it since it was in great condition when it arrived.
