it's beautiful! I would love an m800 at some point. I have 2 M605's one in black and one in green/white. I love them both! I am a totally sucker for German pens though. My hands are large though so the M800 looks like it would fit me better. love the review, thank you!

I own 20-plus Pelikans, from M101s to M1000. My fanciest is a M910 Toledo, while the most modest is a M120 green/black (solid colors, not striped) that I found on a forest trail. The Toledo M700 that I have is the only Pelikan that was a disappointment out of the box; it wrote like a dry stick. I sent it back to Germany, and it came back writing fine. One thing about Pelikan: Before I knew better, in the early days, I used to buy them with an M nib. Then, I bought one on EBay, and it came with an EF nib only, which I thought was a disappointing choice, but I knew I could swap it out for one of my other nibs. To my delight, I tried the pen with the EF in it and found that I liked it. Now when I order a Pelikan I get it with a F or EF, knowing I have plenty of Ms to exchange if I'm disappointed.

Great pens! And yeah, their finer nib sizes are great, and it's super nice that they are easy to sway out and unscrew for easy cleaning!

Great video! I have an M800 in Black F nib. It is a gorgeous pen. As you said, if you buy one, you won't get disappointed. I am going to buy an M1000, but I have to say, the M800 is just perfect for my hand, the pen was "crowned" as the perfect pen for "everyone". And for sure is an excellent one! Thanks again for your video, I liked it! 👍🏻

What a beautiful pen. Maybe the most beautiful that Pelikan makes in their Souverän series. Not counting special art issues. I have the m805 Stresemann, also lovely in a severe sort of way. I got it with a B nib, which I found too broad for my handwriting, so did indeed swap out the nib, with a 2-tone F. Fabulous writer, which I got at a very good price last year from a Belgian store (no, not in person, alas!). But, the Brown and Black. How splendid!

I also have a M805 Stresemann as well as a M400 in the classical Green and Black as well as an M400 in tortoise shell and white. All with M nibs except the "regular" M400 which is a F... and regarding the Pelikan nibs I have to concur with Mr. Crouserm here: they are... *large* I feel that especially the M805 in M easily equates to an Asian B if not more. The M400 nibs are a bit more regular in size but still the F feels a lot like any of my Japanese Ms. As for the writing I have to say it's buttery and smooth, even more so with the larger M800-series nib. As for size I feel the M800 dimensions are just right for my somewhat smaller hand (my glove size is 8 or sometimes 7.5), I've tried a M1000 in a shop but it feels overly large, which I wouldn't mind if it was cigar shaped like so many (Pilot, Montblanc and so many others) but with the Souverän straight cylinder form it feels substantially bigger. And to be perfectly honest I feel the price jump even here in Germany (I know they are substantially more expensive overseas, though I don't think in Europe) is inappropriate for an only slightly larger pen, agreed it has a *substantially* larger nib, but still... Just bought this exact pen on sale brand new. Can't wait. it will be my first Pelikan. I have larger hands. I still want an m600 and a m1000. I wanted the 800 in this finish, or the Stresemann. I love the Brown Renaissance, but was late to the party of fountain pens for that one and they want an arm and a leg for those now used even. This will do the trick though haha

LOL, I love the smell of KWZ ink too. At first I thought I was dreaming when I used it for the first time and second time. Then I thought may be it was just the bottle I got. I have Old Gold. Great shading ink. I really enjoy my M800 Stone Garden. I find it on the drier side (weird) but smooth.

It's a shame that Pelikan stopped producing them with the translucent barrel I find them to be a thick writer, so for instance if you prefer a medium point nib then get the Fine nib etc.

Great pen, nice review. Pelikan are good pens, but I wonder if they are incapable to do real EF nibs. I sold my 1000M years ago because it was an EF nib which wrote like a Broad. A Nibmeister couldn’t fix it!

That nib in particular is very springy due to it's size, so I think that's what makes it hard to do an EF. Luckily the M800 is one of their firmer nibs and so it a pretty true European EF for me.

My German penfriend keeps telling me to get a Pelikan Souverän but so far I have resisted, partly because of the price and partly because I am not a fan of stripey pens. However, this one does look classy to me now, so maybe I am weakening!

They've got some great special/limited additions that aren't stripey as well for you to keep an eye out for. They are fantastic pens if you do get a hold of one!

Beautiful pen! How does it compare to the Graf von Faber-Castell Classic Ebony you've reviewed on your channel? Which nib is softer/gives more feedback? And do you prefer either of them as a daily driver?

Good question! I'd say the Pelikan is the softer nib and the GvFC has more feedback (but Ive also heard a lot of people describe it as soft, so it may just be my EF feeling a little firmer). I think they're equally good as an everyday writer. The Pelikan is piston fill, so more ink on the go, but the GvFC is a bit more solid of a build and a thinner profile, so might be a little easier to carry and more durable. So I think it's a toss-up on the daily writer part, depending on what you prefer or are looking for.

You can be disappointed with Pelikans when they have babies bottom 🙁. My M605 came out of the box new with a baby's bottom. I polished it out but that was bad

Yeah, I've had a baby's bottom with a few of my pens (and fixed some for some friends of mine, including a Montblanc), and it is definitely a bummer. I think some companies get too concerned with smoothness that they overpolish. Luckily it's a fairly simple fix!

I have 1 montblanc and it had baby's bottom too. It's liberating to learn some basic nib tuning but the same QC issue for another person can as easily put them off fountain pens as push them to learn tuning. It'd be sad to see it make people quite FP
