As someone who has over 150 hours of reading time on Audible last month. This ticks all my boxes. It’s like a story which develops in real time.

You mean “listening time”. Consuming audiobooks isn’t the same as reading. That’s like watching a cooking show and saying you practiced cooking

This is great! I have the starter set but have only done the solo adventure so far - I'm not sure how to tackle book 3 solo, so am looking forward to learning from you. I could be mistaken, but when the book says "check reckless" it means put a tick in the box. The tick indicates your character has developed in that area, gained experience and the value of that trait may change at the end of the adventure. I think you also earned a check for honour earlier on, too.

Yep, I have to get used to "check" literally meaning ✅in this game!

The coat of arms has have a seal, right? I'd love for it to be a waffle but a seal feels more appropriate for the world.

Seal shaped waffle!
@taifunkchichrisАй бұрын
The seal would sit on top of his great helm and maybe on a wax stamp for signing of official documents"I give this my seal of approval". His coat of arms should be a waffle with two white seal rampants , instead of lion rampants either side (if you're not sure what that looks like it's a lion/s,or seal in this case stood on their hind quarters as if to pounce on prey mouth open with tongue showing.)

looking forward to this, one thing I remembered when I sat down and read through the first part of the campaign to start playing is that the "core" book doesn't have the warfare rules in it (oh on rereading, the skirmish rules are there they're just not specifically named)... which is a problem, and I feel a bit begrudged to have to buy 5.2e books to make the game work properly. I will return once I have finished watching the episode :D. Lol language, it's not even chaucerian, it would be more like beowulf "Hwæt. We Gardena in geardagum, þeodcyninga, þrym gefrunon, hu ða æþelingas ellen fremedon. Oft Scyld Scefing sceaþena þreatum," Or maybe even some forms of gaelic and latin in some parts "’S i Ghàidhlig leam cruas na spiorad ’S i Ghàidhlig leam cruas na h-èiginn" If you succeed the first roll you don't roll the second one. Also, Pagan's were in 5e Britain was still not entirely converted to Christianity, and many existed with both pagan and Christian beliefs. So it's perfectly reasonable to play a pagan. Remember Pagan's are viewed as weird and Christians would prefer it if they converted but they are tolerated, unlike heretics who are Christians with different interpretations of texts and doctrines, who are not tolerated. This tolerance of course reduces as you go through the centuries. On the crit being on the value as opposed to on one, I guess it's just that maybe it feels cool when you get the hit, the odds are 1 in 20 either way. Awesome video, thanks!
@DungeonSlime29 күн бұрын
I was just reading the rules in detail before starting my own playthrough (thanks for the inspiration to get going, again) There is another reason for the critical being hitting the value, the maximum result is 20, so if you have sword 20 and a modifier of +4 a roll of 16 is still a critical as the roll is increased to 20, as is a 17 because again 20, etc... because modifiers are additive. Page 31 of the 6e book.

Video 68 of me liking and then commenting on every new upload to tell the viewers that the Man Alone Podcast is absolutely some of that sweet, unhinged audio/vocal-honey. Psssst. What do we think video 100 of Desert Dweller commenting will be like? Do you think it will be a waffle? Maybe a playthrough? Do we think M.A.Lone curates a video specially for the Desert Dweller 100th comment? Do we think it just might be a video announcing the Discord finally opened (32 videos away from this one LOLOLOLOL)?

If you spoke the language of the characters it would either be Latin or Cymric (similar to modern Welsh) or Latin, unless you are playing a Saxon, which would be an early Germanic language (which eventually becomes Old English about 500 years later, lol).
@amanisalone29 күн бұрын
I'm sure Cymric is not too hard to learn...[looks at Cymric]...actually I will not be able to learn Cymric
@Somna7716 күн бұрын
Absolutely spot on. Anglo Saxon was closer to Old Norse than modern English. Honestly, you simply can't be expected to reconstruct it and even be understood. Better to just do what feels right to you.

Does not seem like this is explained in the tutorial scenario...when it says "check Honor" (didn't snag a timestamp, but after you rolled Just vs. Arbitrary before the quintain practice) or "check Reckless" (@56:09) this is saying to put a checkmark by that skill, trait, or passion (I'm going to call this "the item" hereafter). It is not saying "roll Reckless" or "roll Honor". After an adventure (during the Winter Phase), you get to roll to see if you advanced a "checkmarked" item; roll against the item and if you fail you add 1 to the item's score. For example, since the tutorial had you check your Honor, after the adventure you would get to roll your Honor. If you rolled a 15 or less, nothing changes. If you rolled a 16 or more, you would advance your Honor to 16. In Pendragon 5E, you also get a check in a skill if you roll a critical success and usually get a checkmark on a success against a trait or passion. As for rolling traits, you can definitely roll them to help make in-character decisions. Unless that decision seems story-important, I would not give yourself a checkmark in the winning trait (except maybe on a critical success). In a GM-led game you would only get check if it is a GM-instigated check or if the GM feels that some decision made is important (in some way...story, character, etc.), though in general, I would be pretty liberal with handing out checkmarks in my games. As an example, by choosing to speak out against Kay letting Arthur take his extra chores, you demonstrated Honor, so the tutorial scenario had you give it a checkmark. Not sure how you will want to proceed post-tutorial since you are your own GM, but in general, you'll want to give your character some checkmarks for significant rolls and/or most (all?) critical successes. Edit - you do give yourself a "check" in Energetic later on (@59:40). Edit - and you explain this even later (@1:21:25).

In the 6th century English would be completely in recognizable. According to Wikipedia The KJV bible, Shakespeare and Le Morte d’Arthur are Early Modern English, Chaucer is Middle English. I don’t know much about Middle English but I do know Old English is a completely different language from even EModE, and most certainly a different language from modern English.

Arthur fought the Anglo-Saxons. If he was a historical figure he is most likely a roman captain from Gaul or a Romano-Briton. He would have most likely spoke Latin or admixture of his native tongue.

People read the King James Version thinking that this is what Jesus handed to the King. Umm. No. In fact it is highly biased toward Catholicism for reasons. And the language is from 14xx. How useful is that? They like to quote scripture in old English like that makes it more pious. It was written in ancient Hebrew, Aramaic and ancient common Greek. Latin if you want to use the version that the apostles used. The septuagint. But that is a translation and not original.
