How to Solve the Rubik's Cube: Roux Method Step 4: LSE Last Six Edges

Timestamps for my future reference: For earlier parts of Roux, watch JPerm's video. Edge Orientation (EO): 4:13 the basic M' U' M' "flips" the "arrow" edges. Note that "flip" means they end up with the correct orientation, but is sent to somewhere else. Another simple trick is M' U2 M to swap UF and DF without flipping. Use this to swap a good edge with a bad edge to get into an arrow formation. Technically only need these two algs to solve everything. 9:36 UL UR edges Put both edges at the bottom using M' U2 M (or M U2 M') and insert appropriately (into opposite corner labels) using M2 11:40 Last 4 edges. Notes: generated by M and U2; a lot of M moves can be in either direction, as long as you cancel them out in the end 12:13 bars M2 U2 M2 U2 12:33 columns M' U2 M2 U2 M' 13:01 dots E2 M E2 M' 13:38 cycles examples: (3122 block example -- swap the "1" (alone) cubie with M* without breaking the "3") M' U2 M' U2 14:24 example2: M' U2 M' U2 M2 14:39 example3: U2 M' U2 M 15:30 examples to practice

I just wanna say that, after doing a couple hundred solves with a COMPLETELY botched and flopped aberration that I originally thought was Roux, I watched all your tutorials a few times and today the L6E step finally clicked for me. I'm feeling the same thing I did when I completed my first solve ever, haha. Roux is such a beautiful method, thank you so much for taking your time to teach it! Decided to give cubing another go after trying to start several times over the years. This series of videos was a huge help! Idk if im stupid or the tutorials i've been following previously were written bad, but this was way easier for me to understand than the basic method for some reason (well, when comparing later steps of algorithms at least). I dont get people saying the explanation of LSE is bad, there literally are a handful of moves you can do to solve it, guess some people are too used to strict algorithms for all steps or something, idk. I’ve recently gotten back in to learning how to solve my cube again, started with CFOP a week ago and was overwhelmed by the amount of algorithms to learn and couldn’t do a solve without reading them. About 12 hours ago I saw Roux as a method of solving and thought it sounded fun so I started learning it instead. Yep -Works like a charm! Everything is easy to understand and remember except J-perm. Was able to solve from memory after an hour, except a little cheat note for J-perm.

Nice! I really like how this barely relies on algorithms. I mostly use two longish algs and that's to orient and permutate the four corners. The algs to fix all the edges are so short, it's either MU2M' or MU'M. So easy. And the way you explained the alone edge really makes the whole thing come together. Thank you for this thorough tutorial.

I actually don't remember it as M'U'M. I feel that it's the only logical way to get the arrow and do it. I use algorithms only for CMLL . But advanced Roux has more algorithms .

Very useful now I can almost solve the cube with this method. I keep returning to this video as lse is the stage that I'm stuck on. This video series has helped me alot. I am going straight to the Roux method from the beginners cross method. Roux has been easier to grasp than cfop for me when I was looking at which method to take me to the next level.

These 4 videos are amazing. I'm complete beginner with cubing and have only solved the cube with beginners method and then with beginner CFOP. I was interested in roux but all the other tutorials made me believe that it is way too advanced for me. After this tutorial I can actually solve the cube using this method although I'm still very slow. my best times with cfop are currently about 1 minute 30 sec but I hope I will get under one minutewith both methods after I get proper cube (currently using horrible rubiks brand).

I suggest that you stick with either roux or cfop. Getting good with 2 methods will be a waste of time.

Kian Mansour Few problems with Roux for me. 1fst my look ahead sucks, I feel ZZ is doing a better job on that for me. 2nd For LSE my left hand only grabs the cube with the thumb and my pinky for iltra fast U2s. Doing ~100 solves a day this really fucks my pinky up. 3rd OH. M slices aren't as bad as everybody says when doing that table thing. I do most of my solves tableless though, and my backpalm table both looks weird and is technically cheating. 4th One month of Roux: ~35 secs with up to 53 secs cause I suck. 4 days of ZZ: ~35 secs on okish solves (havnt times a good one yet) with uo to 51 on bad ones. Roux is a really fun method, I don't know if it's the right one for me though. Will you still love me if I don't come back? PS: also I feel like I do everything the most ineffecient way there is and I do stuff kinda repetitive so stuff like LSE got boring after only a month.

You can't expect your roux skills to be as good as other methods if you've invested less time into it. Work hard and you'll improve. Try holding your pinkie in the air, off the cube

I have an alternative solution for the columns case - 12:33 - (M2 F2) (M2 F2) - oriented with the red and orange sides facing you - it could also be (E2 R2) (E2 R2) or (S2 U2) (S2 U2) depending on how you orient the cube. You could also do opposites if it is more ergonomic for you - (M2 B2) (M2 B2) or (E2 L2) (E2 L2) or (S2 D2) (S2 D2).

I'm pretty sure I had the same issue, and I figured out the problem was that I didn't put white/yellow on top before starting edge orientation (2:04). This causes you to orient all your last 6 edges wrong if you follow the rest of the video. dunno if this is still relevant to you almost a year later but I figure I'll put this here for anyone else getting really frustrated with this like I was

Hello again Kian! I have followed all of your tutorial series and solved the cube with Roux. I did I few more solves, but I'm still stuck.. I don't know whether to switch to roux or stay with CFOP. I was also watching many videos about Roux vs CFOP, which is better, etc.. But I haven't come to a conclusion. I have made a list of pros and cons of both methods, but I still can't decide. Please add index to your video description. Would help a lot. I am n00b, but learned most af beginners 2-look CFOP. The algorthms there can be used for corner orientation and permutation, so great. I feel like the extra freedom of Roux gives me way faster F2L. Easier to locate and track the pairs, and knowing what is already solved. So have been trying CFOP style with 2x3 blocks, then fix bottom centers using M-slice, and 2-look CFOP for OLL/PLL. I am now trying to learn the Roux LSE - And remembering the OLL/PLL algos, which look different. Problem is, that the patterns I recognized in OLL/PLL sequences are now looking different with no edge pieces in place, so I can not use the same visual clues I learned during some of the algorithm practice

I finally got it! Some helpful clarifications and tips: 1. dont get tricked by seeing the arrow when the yellow or white dot is not at the top. You need the arrow when the yellow or white is on top. If you solve the arrow when it is not yellow or white on top, then you'll get stuck! 2. Fully solve your cube, then play around with just U2 M2 moves. Usually you can get get to 'pillars' pretty quickly.

8:30 for this case, can't you just do M' U' M' then you also have the arrow and can do it also with M' U' M' Which I find easier than M moves. If I have problems with M, is it just me and I have to get used to it or might my cube be to hard to turn?

For that case just do M2 and you have arrow. In lse M2s don’t change orientation of edges just swaps. Swaps UF with DB, and swaps UB with DF. Hope this helped
