@@NotMichael349 The funniest thing is the fire-benders in this movie. In the animated show fire-benders would be able to conjure up their own fire or enhance flames nearby using chi, which made them pretty unique compared to the other elements that require nearby sources of their elements. The movie fire-benders never conjure fire, they just use whatever is on a nearby torch or campfire they made with a lighter. So a significantly nerfed fire nation vs earth benders that could just cover their fire sources with one floating rock :/

That's the twist. Originally the movie was going to end and then it pans out and you see this being projected on a screen in a theater, and then it continues to pan out and you see this theater is in the middle of the fire nation but also the future for some reason. They forced Shamalan to cut this scene because it tested even worse with it included and then they cut their losses and put it out. I'm joking of course but who knows...

This movie is attributed to one of the worst moments of my life. My siblings and I got to go to the movies very rarely. My parents took us the weekend this movie came out and I convinced everyone that we absolutely HAD to watch it because we were all Avatar fans and I just knew it would be amazing… I remember us all sitting there about 10 minutes into the movie and I was having cold sweats and an out of body experience from the embarrassment and shame I felt for screwing us all over like that. One of the worst offenses to me was changing the fire nation to an Indian culture as opposed to the obvious Japanese/Mongolian influence of the show. Usually I don't care about race swapping characters if it's a side character or the actor makes sense for the role like the new Batman movie, but race swapping an entire nation of people just because you'd prefer them to be Indian? Wtf was Shyamalan thinking? *edit**: I know the fire nation's aesthetic is based on multiple east Asian cultures. Didn't mean to imply Japanese and Mongolian are the only influences.

I agree. They did every single character dirty, not just by completely changing each and every one of their designs, but also making everyone pathetic and useless. Katara was a badass water bender even if she wasn't that good in Book 1, she was still brave and never backed out from a fight. And Sokka too, even though he wasn't a powerful bender or anything, he was also this quirky, funny character who was still around for comic relief and had his moments where he too fought. The worst rewrite I found was by far the Fire Nation turning Indian and them being basically useless when it comes to fire bending. Like wow, they now need a fire source nearby to fire bend? They can't produce fire on their own? Jeez, just thinking about this movie and how they raped my favorite childhood show gives me PTSD.
@walter41802 жыл бұрын
And an under rated (imo) part of TLA is that it humanizes the 'enemy' that is the fire nation really fucking well and it does it in the simplest way by just showing the audience that a lot of them are just normal people. Makes for some good gags too. Only person the show doesn't really do well is ironically the big bad of the fire nation himself in the fire lord. Probably my only major gripe of the show outside of nitpicks is that Ozai didn't get enough characterization and when we finally do some him doing things, it's the final battle. That said, literally everything else the show does right makes up for it. Oh and the spirit bending shit at the end was a bit hamfisted but eh, not a make or break critique.

"As yOu KnOw, I CoNdUcTeD a RaId oN thE GrEaT LiBrarY..." 'As you know' is one of the laziest writing crutches that shows that the next piece of dialogue is only for the audience. It serves no purpose in delivering new information to the characters to advance the movie, because the characters already know the information. And it's still heavily abused by writers in film and television to this day. The Last Airbender movie hamfists the 'as you know' so poorly that I lost the little respect I had left for M. If there was a 2nd and 3rd movie you’d all love how good the bending gets. The name changes were necessary because it’s more faithful to the Chinese language, and if water benders need to be near water to bend it, and earth benders need to be on land to bend it, then it only makes sense fire benders need fire nearby. Honestly, the movie was pretty good, could it have been a little better? Yeah. I’d say 9.5/10 though :).

It’s interesting. Dragonball Evolution is what happens when an adaptation strays so far from the original source material that it loses the soul of the thing being adapted. The Last Airbender on the other hand is what happens when an adaption focuses solely on recreating moments to appeal to people’s nostalgia that it loses the soul of the thing being adapted. Both manage to be some of the worst adaptations of all time with completely different adaptation strategies
