I grew up very poor, to the point where getting knock off cereal was a big ask in my house. I got my first real job in construction when I was 13, worked myself very hard to never get into the cycle of debt. Worked enough to pay cash for everything until I was 24 to build credit for a house. I get the name brand cereal to appease the child that just wanted to take home the bright boxes, wondering if the grass was really greener. They seem to taste better in what they represent to me, not what it was actually made out of.

Theres confusion because name brands can be made in the same factory as generics and the ingredients can be the same. But "oats" "wheat" etc can have differences in quality, freshness, etc based on sourcing, when they were picked, where, etc
