It released in Mexico, funny thing the biggest cinema chain in Mexico has a "guarantee seal" they give to movies they consider "master pieces" and they gave one to Perez (100% paid by Netflix for sure), basically if you can't stay to finish the movie they give you back your moeny, Emilia Perez was so terrible that almost everyone who bought tickets couldn't finish and the cinema chain refused to keep their word so they were investigated by the Mexican Consumer Protection Federal Agency, like the actual government forced the cinemas to return people their money because of how awful the movie is.

This movie was so shit and badly received in Mexico that the Consumer Protection department of Mexico (PROFECO) had to get involved. The reason is because one of the biggest theater companies in Mexico called Cinepolis (fun fact: they are responsible for that really weird Dune commercial with Zendeya and Chalamet) has a guarantee on certain movies that if you walk out within 30 min of the movie they would give you the refund. The thing is that they have really never had to use this policy a lot cuz it usually good movies that get it, however they made the mistake of putting it on Emilia Perez. Therefore, when a record level of the audience walked out and demand the refund Cinepolis was totally incapable of processing these refunds. Truth is that the policy was more of a publicity thing than an actual rule. Cinepolis refused to pay back the money, so people asked PROFECO to get involved. Now thats a whole nother shit show. Hope this helps get the mexican perspective 😂.
