My grandfather was a somewhat high-ranking intelligence officer, he's about 70 now and he's just completely lost his mind since his 40's from what I've heard. He's afraid to speak about anything he's witnessed because he thinks the government is tapped into his house, his phones, his tv, etc (but he brings it up in every conversation). Maybe they do tap into retired operatives to that extent but his mind is just completely consumed by paranoia and distrust of the media and government. I think that kind of work takes a toll on your brain, so it wouldn't be unheard of to have someone of even higher rank have these kinds of beliefs if they do come out to be false.

The thing is people expect aliens to look otherworldly, but the creatures on Earth already look otherworldly to each other. Compare a horse to a spider, or an octopus to a platypus. If someone showed me a picture of a newly discovered species but didn't disclose they were alien, I'd just assume "Yeah, Earth would have something like that". The only way I'd think an alien is otherworldly to anything on Earth is if they're evolved to look ethereal or some shit.

Personally, i highly doubt this is aliens and this is somehow from Earth, whether it be interdimensional, another intelligent species, or another country on the planet. Regardless, it's highly likely that aliens would look otherworldly due to different atmospheric composition, gravity, etc etc that would make them entirely different than we could possibly imagine. They could be 16 feet tall for example, due to low gravity.

The dark forest is probably one of the worst thought out concepts, its projecting the idea that because we still mostly primitive humans are still barbaric that some ultra advanced (likely post scarcity) alien society would be flying around needlessly destroying anything they come across. The most intelligent tend to not be the most destructive, as well as knowing that once you reach a certain point, again post scarcity, there is ZERO need to be hostile to anyone else because you have no need for their resources and would only benefit from mutual cooperation through discovery. Its possible they might be "grabby" from a scientific standpoint, they might have some degree of apathy depending on how they see other species development, but its unlikely they would outright be hostile or not have the understanding that humans are also a developing species higher up than cattle, therefor not just treating them with absolute apathy.

When my family was moving we stayed at this lil motel in New Mexico. When we came out of our room, everyone was in the parking lot looking at the sky. As someone who was in Intel in USAF. I can assure you there are folks with high level security clearances that are batshit crazy. We had a guy in our squadron that had a TS clearance and we found him one evening singing in a tree. When we asked what he was doing, he said he was summoning storms. He wasn't drunk or high - he was sober and dead serious. When he eventually came down from the tree he sincerly claimed he had super powers and one of them was being able to summon storms. He claimed in some circumstances he could shoot lightening out of his hands. BTW, no storm came after his performance.

Just to be clear, he didn't have full permission to speak about this. He filed a whistleblower complaint and the Intelligence Community Inspector General confirmed that his claims were credible and urgent, so an investigation was launched. After blowing the whistle and having received retaliation, he decided to go public. Since he has whistleblower protections, they couldn't stop him completely from speaking, but they could limit what he was allowed to discuss publicly if it could endanger active operations with regards to national security. Next question, why is it always the US that's tied to this alien stuff? I feel that other countries need to be making these types of statements before I will ever begin to believe this stuff is real. Saying something like, "maybe other countries are just more secretive," won't change my mind. Edit: Okay yeah, maybe other countries do to some extent, but not nearly as much as the US. Furthermore, I see some people saying I don't watch news from other countries; I do, I'm not even from the US if that contributes somehow, I just don't believe the news coverage from other countries is ever as well-covered as the US'. I’m glad Charlie kept his cool on this and is looking at it realistically, most of the stuff I’ve seen about it is people saying “yep aliens are real it’s confirmed” but I couldn’t find that like real evidence other than the guys word and Charlie just laid it out explaining he is reputable but hadn’t actually been able to show proof yet, so it’s skeptical optimistic but not like for sure which is where I landed

Part of the issue is that these sources are saying there is evidence that’s locked behind security and has been verified as real by reputable people. Part of what this committee it’s trying to do is get the more compelling evidence released to congress so it can be properly investigated by outside the pentagon.
