Honestly the idea that you let an employee have a day off for a moon viewing ceremony is amazing. there are many cultures and practices around the world that view full moons as important nights and sadly our modern society does not usually give us the time to actually enjoy these ancient celestial holidays. Regardless of the reason, letting them have this special occasion shows your a compassionate person.

I think the part that pisses me off the most about the woohoo around Gems/Crystals/Rocks is they are already so fascinating, the elements that comprise them, how the crystals form, the conditions required to shape them, and just a pure aesthetic appeal, they really don't need any extra fantasy attached to them they are already whimsical in nature.

It's a misunderstanding carried over from alchemy. Ancient alchemy would assign different affects to different minerals. People don't look at history and thus it repeats. Basically it's just because back in history people would say that quartz was a medium to seal demons into and could be used to find treasure

I enjoy collecting palm stones because I just like carrying them around and learning about what they're made of. My husband told be that he doesn't believe in crystals. They aren't real. And I rolled my eyes and said, "Minerals are real. The earth is literally made of them." He stopped being obstinate about it when he realized I just like shiny rocks.

I grew up next to a rock museum. I was obsessed with rocks, minerals, fossils, and crystals growing up, and the science behind how they are formed. Then, after everyone around me became a teenager, people assumed that I thought I was using them for magic healing purposes, because they do too. I lost faith in the intelligence of general people pretty quickly after that.

This is actually kinda funny for me, I was diagnosed with cancer when I was five, and I still have it today at the age of 24. Obviously it was a really fucked situation so everyone in my family was having a really hard time, but my mother was friends with two of these stone healing people, so she thought "Why not? Try everything at this point". So she started bringing them home and me as a 5 year old just thought the stones were pretty and cool, so I started buying them for fun, sorta like a card collection thing. Was actually kinda fun, but I mostly just did it to put my mother at ease. I still have a bunch of those stones to this day. These ones are huge though, the ones I got were much smaller, usually not much bigger then your thumbnail.

What kind of cancer?
@dylaroo24
@dylaroo24 Жыл бұрын
@@doku367 Stage 4 neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nervous system. Stage 4 meaning it’s metastasised in my bones. There was a large tumour in my abdomen wrapped around major arteries, and spots in my left arm, left side skull (the bone not the brain), hips, pelvis, and lower spine. I got treatment here in Australia at first at one of the best children’s hospital in the country, but we faced horrific treatment at this hospital and it was borderline a human rights violation, but that’s a different story I’ll tell if people are interested. After 6 months of treatment (mostly just chemotherapy) in Australia, my doctor said to my mother, grandmother, and me (a 5yr old) “The life saving surgery to remove the tumour in his abdomen is too risky and we refuse to attempt it. Your son has 2 months left to live, take him home and love him.” real scumbag this guy. My family refused to accept that, so they started a fund raiser and sold everything they spent their entire lives building to raise half a million dollars to go get treatment in the US. My family had bought a nice house in a nice new development area, we were set to have a nice middle class life for our family, white picket fence and all, we sold it all. Thanks to selling everything and the donations of generous people, I managed to get the surgery in America to remove the tumour at a hospital called “Memorial Sloan Kettering” in New York City, it was successful and it saved my life. I still had cancer in my bones so I started doing every kind of cancer treatment you can think of, we managed to clear up the spots in my left side skull and left arm, but I still have spots in my hips, pelvis and lower spine to this day nearly decades later. My body rejected most everything both medicines and cancer, the cancer didn’t spread, but the medicine wasn’t getting rid of it. So we lived in NYC for nearly 9 years, and after being stable to whole time and havi;g tried everything, we decided to move back to Australia with not a cent to our name. Luckily some family helped us out and we managed to find a place to rent, but we are dirt poor and our landlord is talking about selling the property. Which is really bad since Australia is having a horrible housing crisis right now due to covid and stuff. Most likely we’ll have to move to the country side and my life will pretty much be over at that point. I’m struggling to find a way to have a life here in the suburbs of Melbourne, I can’t find work, I can’t drive (too many painkillers and have no way of affording a car, let alone space to park it.) I can barely walk a few blocks without intense back pain and shortness of breath. So I almost never leave the house and thus have no friends to speak of, I’ve spent the last decade in almost complete isolation from the outside world. So even here in the suburbs I’m staring at the strong possibility of dying alone, but in the country it’s basically certain. But that’s my life atm, so I just gotta deal with it, having strong mental health is one thing I’ve got going for me. I’ve always been good at disassociating and focusing on things I enjoy like shows and gaming, so at least I have that going for me. But at the same time humans are social creatures and start to go crazy after long periods of isolation, part of me wonders how it’s effected me, or if it’ll start to effect me in the future. Dunno what’ll happen, but I don’t have a whole lot of choice over my situation. That’s pretty much my life story. Edit: Funny thing was that the doctor that said to my face I would be dead in 2 months here in Australia, he wrote an article saying that my efforts in America was a waste of money and resources and that I would die any day now. The only reason we didn’t sue was because A. We were broke, and B. He didn’t use my first name, he used my middle name “Little boy Jack” was the term he used, Jack being my middle name. The details made it extremely clear he was talking about me, he named the Stage 4 neuroblastoma with a large tumour wrapped around major arteries in my abdomen, the spots in my bones, the treatments I’d done, his prognosis, and that we’d raised half a million to get treatment in America. It was all too obvious who he was writing about despite him using an extremely common name like “Little boy Jack”.

Honestly, I've always posited that good luck charms and other trinkets like that *do work*. Not because of innate mystical power. Rather, based on the placebo effect. Which is honestly pretty fucking cool in its own right. The placebo effect actually has healing physical properties. If you feel you're getting better, your health will improve to a degree. And considering that chronic stress is just straight up bad for you, having some "good vibe" charm actually makes sense, from a psychological standpoint. Makes you feel better, so it makes you less stressed out, which helps you make better decisions in the long term. Honestly, that is a kind of good luck. Makes sense why so many cultures do it, honestly. Edit: Grammar and polish

Also, you should probably have had the crystals on you when you bought the lottery tickets.

The great miracle here is that the crystals arrived without damage. Quartz in particular breaks in shipping so easily.

The issue is that there's always excuses you can make to explain away undesirable results. eg. 70% of lottery winners go broke, so one could argue that quartz keeping you from winning anything is lucky. I'm curious what kind of experiment could be conducted to control for such things and actually show any sort of reliable results. I don't believe in crystal powers myself, but I'm always happy to see a good experiment

As a crystal bitch who entirely believes in the energies of the world and crystals I throughly enjoyed this. No matter if you believe it or think it’s just delusional people making shit up I think they’re at the very least pretty and fun to learn about. Especially where they come from and how they’re made is so cool. And like the girl said you have to take care of them and do rituals and cleanse them and it gets me into a productive state of mine where even if it’s not actually doing anything it makes me feel good and happy about myself ya know.

I'm very much a science-minded person, but even if crystal healing is 95% placebo, there could be something there. Put a bunch of atoms(a lot of it has to do with electrons) in a highly-ordered structure and you get all sorts of properties. Quartz is piezoelectric, under physical stress the atoms move and shift their electric field. Electricity from a rock. Natural magnets(electron spins aligned), and fluorescence of course(again, electrons)! I just recently found some minerals(Corundum, Fluorite, Sphalerite, Kyanite to name a few) fluoresce to give off infrared light(not thermal, rather NIR just past visible red). To me that's more interesting than a bright green fluorescent rock because I _can't_ see it. All this to say; crystals have many unique properties, of which we continually discover new ones. It's literally un-scientific to not research these claims, however under the lens of materialistic reductionism we won't find anything. That's a whole other topic...
@anonymousv3071
@anonymousv3071 Жыл бұрын
@B Ueb @B Ueb Yea, what has material reductionism done for us anyway. Einstein was probably a liar. You name several observable qualities and state those as reasons that ridiculous things such as magic healing or luck should be evaluated. If you're so "science-minded" then why don't you look into it yourself? No respectable scientist would waste time trying to prove magic.

Charlie, you have to really prep you Chi for these things. You have to do some shakes and then awaken your inner beast with some primal screaming. Go out on a full moon and drink rain water from a wolfs paw print. Only then can you can use your crystals. Also your have to get the impurities out of the crystal by licking it 9 times. After that its its really useful

I never believed in crystals but I did have one extremely unusual and intense experience. when I was 19 I used to hold this large selenite crystal while praying to test if it was real or not. one day after praying with the crystal, I fell asleep, and when I woke up I could feel this incredibly intense wave like energy coming from the crystal. I got up and felt the energy dissipate and when I went back to touch it, it resonated again. I never had that experience again, so I figured it was just in my head, something I ate or a really good sleep after positive thoughts, but its cool to think we can placebo ourselves into positivity like that. Maybe one day we'll learn more about them and find out they do have magical qualities like the child in us wishes they would be, but they're most likely just rock flowers.

I have a HUGE collection myself, but I collect them because I think they're gorgeous to look at lol. BUT because they're in my house and make me happy, in a way, they work lol. They have a negative reputation because they're tools of the modern day snake oil salesman. You can do anything you'd like in the privacy of your own home and believe what you will. The instant you try and sell them as a cure for people seeking help for real issues with no evidence what so ever to support your "magical" crystal/tarot claims, that's where the bad reputation is absolutely warranted. As long as it remains a hobby you keep to yourself and dont push on others its harmless, but unfortunately that's just not the case for a disturbingly large amount of people.

Fact of the day: If you weighed 100 pounds at the north pole on a spring scale, at the equator you would weigh 99.65 pounds, or 5.5 ounces less. Your mass, in grams, however would stay the same because 'grams' is a measure of the resistance of a body to being moved and has nothing to do with acceleration or gravity.

Grams aren't a measure of resistance of a body being moved but a measure for both weight and mass, just like pounds, so you are only saying, that your weight and mass can be different, but it has nothing to do with pounds or grams that are the measure to both of these separate things.

I mean, I suppose, but it's not specific to any object. A fossilized turd could do the same thing, if someone believes enough. It's not inherently bad, but crystals and stuff are a still a scam. Though part of the effect can be the sacrifice or economic cost in getting the 'magic' items.

there's also the benefit of placebo, that's always been my big take with being a practicing Wiccan.
