Met Penn after a Mothxr show in 2016 and he was exceptionally kind despite being hungry and visibly irritated. 3 of my friends and I loved their music but the few that were there as Gossip Girl fans were being persistent with photos. He took about 7+, asked if I wanted one, and when I declined he said 'Ok, I'm gonna get something to eat then.' About 20 minutes later, after I joked with him that Subway was probably the only thing open on a random weeknight, we walked past him eating tacos or something with the food on the hood of the car. He took the time to discuss politics with me mid-meal as my unhinged 19 year old self at the time told him I was going to/did vote for Jill Stein and the Green Party after the DNC fought against Bernie Sanders in the primary. He said he appreciated that I liked his political tweets but ultimately felt like he shouldn't be getting too much credit for what he says as a 'privileged white guy' and that he is trying his best to keep learning, share what he can etc. Also, he was much more funny and light-hearted post-meal lol. Still remember that experience vividly because it felt like talking to a chill friend. Very sincere & overall great guy.

Hes one of the sweetest people ever. He used to come in all the time at a cafe i worked at in brooklyn and would sit and hang out multiple times a week. I for weeks had no idea who he was just a customer id have friendly banter with, funny, charming, all of that. Finally a couple weeks later a co worker walks in and sees me shaking his hand cause we had finally exchanged names ( still not recognizing him) and she later asks how do you know penn? and i was like how do you know him???? and then i realized he was on gossip girl.... I still never said anything about any of his shows or movies just continued being friendly. He then left to go start filming the first season of You.

Love watching this after just finishing season 4 of You. I’ve watched him since gossip girl was coming out. I love the role he plays in You, and I think he did an awesome job directing the most recent season.
