Penn Battle Spinning Reels - Guides Review

As a full time saltwater fishing guide I depend on my tackle to make a living. If my equipment fails it could ruin our entire day so I pay particular attention to the what I use. Over the years I have found that Penn Spinning reels get the job done day in and day out. When Penn came put with the Battle I was very excited to try them out and have been very impressed with there performance. This video shows the basic features of the reel, thanks for watching. If you often get wind knots you can do one of two things. 1) use LIQUID casting braid. 2) as soon as you get a wind knot in braid try to open up loops first then apply chapstick to the problem areas on the line. Then, just pull slowly on the line to free the knots and your problem will be soled :)

Good Comment! yeah! i got the penn battles BTL-5000 and BTL -4000 last year and they perform outstanding that HT-100 penn drag system is amazing and allows you to land big fish 30+ lbs. using lighter equipment and i just love it. ...PEACE!!

Penn has everything going for them. These are fantastic reels at a great price, Still made in Philly in that funky brick building they've been in for 80 years. I still use my 40 year old Jigmaster & Squidder, but the technology has changed and Penn has kept up without missing a beat. You still can't beat made in America.

I hope you are correct and I received a Lemon. So far I have to say after contacted the Penn Customer service they have been very cordial and had me ship it to them this past Friday for review...will reply again once I receive a determination from them of what the issue was with the reel

I have a 9' penn power stick surf rod and am really considering this reel. Will the 5000 battle be a good set up or the 4000? Also, how does it handle with braid (powerpro)? Some reviews says that it has wind knots. Just a little iffy about it. And like you said about the stradic, I totally agree. That's why I'm looking at this.

Is the 7000 to big for redfish and maybe some freshwater bass on a 8 foot rod

Great reel, but one of the problems is that the bail flips over when you are casting hard or using heavy weight. To help ease this problem take the bail trip out.

do you think the 4000 size would be good for throwing smaller baits at cobia if i had braid?

Bad experience with the Penn Battle ....Bail handle broke off...actually flew off during a fight with a striper....I washed and lubed my reel after every trip and it still sucks....doesn't spin properly and makes a clicking noise that if you search google others complain about as well

which size would you pair with a 9' ugly stick big water spin rod- to use for fishing off rocks on the oregon coast? Salmon etc.

would you say this is a good reel for getting started in muskie fishing? which size would be "right' for muskies? i've got a baitcaster for fun and bass/pike stuff, and a light-duty spinner for sunfish/gills.

I have a 6'6" medium action gx2 ugly stik two piece 6-15 lb rating...I got a penn battle 2 4000 for it...I shoot for light inshore fishing and off the bank on rivers and lakes/reservoirs or canals. I also have a battle 2 5000 that I want to either get a 6.6 MH rod or 7ft for more salt, does this sound right?
