I just picked up the Penn defiance rod and reel for $1 at supper Wal-Mart. Actually I got 2 for $2. Grate video. Now on to go watching more of your videos.

yeah $1.00 they were the last two and they were trying to get rid of them at 12 at night so i got them both for a $1.00 each.

I've caught several garfish on this reel, works great for me. The largest one was 5ft 7in. I actually was looking for a video on upgrading the bearings..

This is basically a trolling rod. How can you use it for fishing from the beach? You cant cast it. I have the Penn 30 LW. Great trolling rod.

I have the penn defiance 40LW an know for a fact it cant handle a shark, but it is a great reel for Kings and Spanish, but as its not a 2 speed, and a 15lb drag it just cant handle any shark over 2-3 feet.

+Jason Brown fill the reel up with braid and you will catch sharks. caught 5 footers on this reel

Just hope that the graphite don't let go use your THUMB for more drag.

Like any reel, as long as you take good care and make sure no sand or salt water gets in the reel, the reel should last a very long time. Penn reels are great reels and very durable. cant go wrong for around $100

floridafishers yeah i saw it online at walmart for 90 and wonder if its a good reel for ur vid i am most likely going to get but the cilcker could be better thnxs for the review

i agree shakespare not the best rod, next time check basspro, they have a refrubished rod rack, u get great deals , like penn senators rods for 30.00 and other great rods on the cheap. but dont tell everyone about this lol

Baitcaster reels come apart easy and the levelwind you can take off. I too don't like levelwind. Seen peeler size sturgeon demolish levelwinds. I also took them off all my abu ambassadeur reels (6500 and up) for greater casting distance. They also don't lay braided line well either l perfer fast sweeps so it don't dig in itself. You got yourself a decent setup. Grease and set the drag and your shark or catfishing in no time;) Tight lines!!!
