Penn Fathom II Star Drag 8xnsd Maintenance Service Tutorial LONG AND SLOW VID

Penn Fathom II 8xnsd Tear Down. This isn't a thorough maintenance service. Ideally if time allows, soak it in a cleaning solution to completely remove old grease and use a tooth brush to remove grease between the gear tooths. I'm just touching up from where it was for the time I had.

Thank you for posting this video. I attempted the service but after removing the 3 screws holding the side plate and the 2 screws holding the gearbox cover in place, the side plate wouldn't separate. It seemed the pinion yoke spring was attached to the side plate and was holding it together. Any idea what I need to do the remedy this?

Maintenance is very easy. Just need to wipe off old grease around parts and apply new grease, marine grade, which has salt water additives. The drag doesn’t require grease but if you do, look for Cal’s grease for drag, from your local tackle.

Hi. This reel is made of cast aluminum. I still have a size 12 and 25n in this model and they hold up well.

I appreciate your attempt to show the breakdown of the reel, but your use of the close up lens is wasted because you don't hold still the areas of the reel your trying to focus on.
