Looks like Penn made some great design changes and it only took a decade and a half! Drag relocation, adjustable strike position, 2 speed mechanism, topless frame, silent and smooth crank... In the meanwhile competitors have surpassed and still leads in designs and quality. Internationals used to dominate on the west coast but not any more.

We might have agreed with you 10 years ago. The International 50VISX is the best big game reel bar none in our opinion. We have put them through hell and back with nothing more than a rinse and dry and they have been amazing. Smooth, powerful and reliable. You can't ask for much more.

@@LocalKnowledge Bingo! You are dead-on regarding the situation 10-12 years ago, but not now. Also note that this video is over 3 years old. Since the "Gen6" Internationals hit the market back in 2017, they have taken the west-coast long-range scene by storm. The monster bluefin being caught locally are similarly being caught on Internationals. Vagabond, Pacifica, Shogun, Pegasus, and many more have all made amazing local bluefin catches just this week, with all of the kite tackle and heavy bait loaner gear being PENN. The Pacifica had a 353 pounder, this week, and the next day had 17 fish from 100-238 pounds for just 10 anglers on a 1.5 day trip, all on Internationals.

This looks to be a standard 50 size. I really like penns but wish they had made a vsx 80w series. They skipped the whole wide series in the vsx line up and skipped right over 80 series as well. If they had put out an vsx 80w that put 70lbs+ of drag i most definitely would have considered purchasing one. I went with an avet 80w instead. Also would be intresting to see a 130 wide series .

Sizes 12-50 [including a 20] in the VISX series, and 12-130 [no 20] in the VIS series, with both gold and silver colors available.

In all due respect that's not a 50 wide. It's a 50 narrow or standard. It's a cool reel but not a wide. Basically looks to be the same size as a 50 VSX.

Correct, it is not a 50W. In the new series, the 50W has a top bar, but the "standard" 50 size is topless. It is still considerably wider than a 50VSX, which was a "50 narrow" size.
