712...sorry for the correction😁. These are my favorite spinning reels. I have waaaaay too many greenies. I have mint condition 716s all the way to the 700 solid handle. I have a fleet of these that I use on a regular basis. They are timeless mechanical devices and great conversation starters at the landing. Thanks Dennis!!

Let me warn other viewers about something, watching these videos will make you a reel addict. I've went from a guy who owned a couple zebco 888's to a roaring pflueger addict. I've learned a great appreciation for vintage equipment and for me pflueger reels are my weakness. Funny thing is my wife said I'd rather you be addicted to old reels than drugs or alcohol lol

Thanks for the video Dennis, I just pulled out my original greenie 714 spin fisher from its box for a quick service and a workout this fall here in Buffalo. I still have the receipt from Karnival sportsman in Brooklyn. I got this in August 1977 for my 9th Birthday, caught lots of snappers in Knapp Street Creek and some Stripers in Sea Gate. Now where gonna hit the creeks and streams for whatever comes my way

Dennis, I’ve found that those black pony tail holders you can buy in bulk at Wal-mart are the best for holding line down on the spool. They do not degrade like rubber bands and last almost indefinitely. They are all I use. I thank my daughters for this bit of wisdom. They are very cheap and are covered with woven cloth or threads so no rubber is exposed. If you want I’ll send you some. - Chris

This is absolutely one of my favorite reels. I wish mine was as nice as this one however. I’m sorry the fish medallion is missing. I have 9 various Penn Greenies and love fishing with them. Most of mine are the larger Spinfisher 700 and 704 models. I have two particular examples of the first Penn 704 with those distinctive swirl side plates. This Penn worm gear internal mechanism can be found in so many other reel brands notably Shakespeare, Zebco Cardinal (Sweden). South Bend (Japan) and Daiwa among others. I have a 1961 first edition Penn Spinfisher 700 - the first spinning reel ever made by Penn. I will never fish with it as it should actually be in a museum. Dennis this was a great video one of the best family of fishing reels ever made. Thanks so much! I’ve been playing with my new Okuma ABF 40 bait feeder reel and my appreciation increases with every new detail I uncover.

Chris,hope you are doing well. Seems like we always cross paths when Dennis services a Penn spinning reel lol. I had to quit collecting,it was getting out of hand . I quit counting after 240 reels. I did however finish my Penn intermediate line of Greenies 716-704. I found a seller on Ebay who had two new bleach white 716 and two new 714 drag knobs for forty bucks a pair...a literal unicorn. These two drag knobs accompanied my flawless 716 and 714 greenie reels and topped off my greenie series. Just need a mint 706 greenie( good luck) . It's been a tough year so far with massive losses on the homefront and the company I work for( Firestone) is forcing out the older employees by taking medical insurance away if we didn't leave(34 years) but life goes on and unfortunately my collecting is on hold now until this new job pans out. I did complete my Shakespeare 2400 series 2400-2450 blue all in excellent condition. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to find a green 2410 that's not sold on Japan lol. Anyway take care . Its sounds like you have a lot of nice reels in your collection. Mike

@@mikemcelveen2973 Hi Mike! So very good to hear from you. Thank you for your kind words. I have been very sick for almost the past 4 weeks though I wasn’t hospitalized until a week ago. I had surgery last Thursday and am still recovering from that. It was one of the largest kidney stones I’ve ever had and I developed a severe intestinal blockage to go with it. I’m on the mend now but it is slow and painful.. I’m so sorry about your job problems. I can certainly relate though in a different way. I had to retire at 58 and go on disability because I lost about 60% of my vision. I pray you can overcome your setbacks. And continue to succeed in everything you do! You can be proud of your Penn greenie and Shakespeare collection. I love those 2400 blue Shakespeares and I still need a 2430. I also would love to have a Penn 706 greenie for my Penn greenie collection. I have a 706Z that I love. I have 9 really nice Penn greenies going back to a 1961 700 with that green handle. My biggest groups of collected reels are Mitchells and Daiwas. I wish I could see your collection and you could see mine! I think that would be a lot of fun. I also have around 240 reels in total. I’ve slowed down because I’m running out of room to store them. Please stay in touch Mike. We’ve been talking now for several years and I always enjoy hearing from you! -- Chris

That 710 is in mint condition. I used to have one of those but could never get the bail to work properly. Wish I had known about that bail wire years ago. That reel is old. Early 80’s

9:45 That's where I'm stuck... the bearing is stuck inside the frame of the reel. Maybe I can put a nut back on the end of the shaft and pull on that. Not a lot of options to apply force to get it loose.
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 2 жыл бұрын
Yes - flood the bearing with penetrating oil or master blaster or another like product and let it sit for a few hours. Once you have the retainer off of the bearing shaft assembly, go ahead and put the rotor back on and then the nut. You can use the rotor as a bigger knob to grip and rock/pull up in order to assist in the bearing removal
@anthonycolbourne4206
@anthonycolbourne4206 2 жыл бұрын
@@2ndChanceTackle Penetrating oil did the trick! Like pulling a stubborn tooth. After a bunch of wiggling, even got the old bearing spinning again, all back together now and spins like a top. Thanks!

The greenies and Zs are almost totally indestructible versus the more modern designs. I wonder if anyone has ever considered making an updated version that uses skirted spools. That to me seems like a great opportunity.

Don’t most Penn 710 greenies have a plastic green spool? This may actually be a 712 greenie because they had a silver aluminum spool. I can’t wait to get a 710 greenie! I buy the big tub of Penn grease and a big tub of Super Lube synthetic grease. I;m on my third tub of each. I use a lot of grease over four years in this hobby.
