Just what i was looking for! Looking to replace my original Big Baitrunners which changed owner involuntarily...and tbh I'm having a hard time finding old school build quality. Seems like these PENN's are up to the job when it comes to durability. How would you rate the drag and smoothness? (having a hard time finding a shop which stocks them over here in the EU) New sub!

I would have loved to see you cast it out there and bring in a fish with it so see how it casts/handles weight. Still, great review!

Do you think some 50 pound braid will be fine and do you like braid over mono ?
@Bobby5911 ай бұрын
Just curious how far you can sling it out there? I have a spinfisher 6500 but thinking of maybe getting this as well.

Depending on conditions and the rig I’m throwing combined with braid line test, well over 100yds 💪

@@mackrobertson I may look to get this with a 12’ Okuma rockaway

@@Bobby59 I just got a 12’ rockaway last year and absolutely love it. I can feel a kingfish sniff the bait lol jk. But it’s strong but a sensitive rod at the same time. I may run a DNA 9’ rod for surf casting with a penn long cast 5500

The one negative thing that I see is due to the wide spool When the bail is positioned at one end or the other of the spool, the line on the opposite end of the spool is going to be pulled off the spool at a very steep angle when a fish makes a run This can't help but cause some line degradation as the line rubs against the adjacent line due to the steep angle caused by the wide spool, certainly more rubbing than would be had with a normal width spool

I have one of these in a 5500 and it seems to wind knot or tangle in the first guide way too often. It will do it one in 5 casts no matter what I’m throwing. Tried it on a half dozen different rods and it does it with all of them, even tangle resistant k-type guides. I’ve got most sizes of the regular spinfishers and a few long cast reels from other brands and none of them have this problem. Spool is spaced correctly for the right line lay, and I’ve tried everything from 20 to 50lb braid. Anybody else have this problem?

I have one. It does cast great, but the quality is poor. I always rinse off and dry my reels. After 1.5 years of use, the gears are grinding. It's a piece of garbage. Don't waste your money.

Couldn’t disagree more and I have a few of these reels. But maybe you have a defective unit. Have you contacted Penn? They would likely replace or send parts.
