Thanks for this one. I have a Squidder 140 which I purchased a few years ago on EBay because of the name and beauty. I’ve never fished with it but it’s time to give it a go on the jetties.

The reel was so far ahead of its time. The Squall and Fathom small frames are nice replacements. Let's see if they last!

@@2ndChanceTackle I highly doubt that the newer Penn reels will compare to the Squidders . I had a handle screw broke on me from a Penn Fathom II 30SD . The parts are not made of quality anymore . It's all about profit now .

Penn Squidder 140, the best surf casting reel ever produced. Thumb screw take down . Got sand in it at night, no problem. Unscew, water, back into action. Other reels, sand, go home. I got 12 Squidders with 8 being the 140s with Newell conversion. Great for sharks on the beach. Now, if only Penn would reintroduce the Squidder 140 . Hey Penn, how about redesigning the right side (handle side) plate with a higher gear ratio and 25 -30 pound max drag . Everything else stays the same as is. That would be one heck of a reel. And please knock it off with the plastic craps you stick in your reels nowadays.

Thanks for the note. Points well made, just like the Squidder! If they reintroduced it, it would probably come out like the modern JigMasters, which are a shadow of their former excellence.
