I actually thought Teller was going to do the milk, too. The magician seemed ready for that.

Teller was just being nice. The milk didn’t fool him. That’s an old gag. The cookie did him in though haha

I remember watching this for the first time and having my mind completely blown, more so than most of the acts I've seen on Fool Us. Now it seems so obvious but there's still something so special about this trick for me. It's the way it all happens so naturally that your mind is literally forced to consider the possibility that he really swallowed the cookie and spit it back out. If there were no recording of this it would still drive me nuts to this day lol.

those are the best tricks in my opinion, the ones that even if you crack them you can still appreciate how smoothly and clearly they were done

I only just now saw the "magic moment" when seeing this video (out of the 3-4 times I've seen the act's clip itself) and I'm surprised I didn't see it before! He really does pull it off _so_ naturally, with smooth patter at _just_ the right time to make you think everything is over and keep your eyes from looking too closely... unless you _already_ know to look.

It's actually so genius way to fool someone, by manipulating how our brain works. He sets it up as a competition to grab attention, and by using so stupid and obvious items, noone wants to loose! And when there is so little going on, we pay so much attention to everything, and focus all we can, that we actually fail in noticing- or memorizing what he did. It's like when you think really hard about walking, and maybe in a slight stressful situation where you have to make that walk count, it'll be so hard to actually move your legs
@GuruEvi

Now by rewinding the video the trick is actually very obvious when the cookie got there but you did it by using a very natural operation that I think it hides in our cultural subconscious much like the original ninja (stage hands in black robes are subconsciously "invisible" in Asian theater cultures). The fact that the cookie was relatively dry gave it away that the cookie wasn't "sleight of mouth".
@user-sw1wq8lh2w
@user-sw1wq8lh2w 4 жыл бұрын
the ninja aren't stage hands? Also the biggest achievement on misdirection and misinformation of ninja were who they were and what they could do. People believed ninja could breathe underwater, dematerialize, see without seeing, and much more. Some reasonable people still believe ninja had second sight. But the ninja also spread disinformation much like modern propaganda
@Fluxty

If Penn and Teller knew the plot of the trick they would've been able to notice the cookie load, just as we did when we re-watched.
@Bahamuttone

@@user-sw1wq8lh2w That means the convention of Japanese theatre of having black dressed stage hands that move the props around and even lift the actor to do "special" effect. They are supposed to be "not there" and so when one of this turns and shank one of the character it throws the public for a loop. That is the origin of the black ninja garb.

When he was spitting the milk back into the glass, he should have dribbled the last little bit on his chin. That would have made the table cloth move seem even more natural.
@chrisrosemagic
@chrisrosemagic Жыл бұрын
@Steve chance… It’s funny you should mention dribbling. Since the filming of this segment the routine has evolved… I’ve added adult sized bibs for me and my guest on stage so that “we don’t get anything on our fancy party clothes”. It allows me to do just that; dribble down my chin and not get anything on my clothes or tie (if I’m wearing one). You’re right, it make it all the more natural.

It's true, the best way to fool them is to invite teller up and do close magic and let pen sit. Teller catches more misdirections than pen when they're both sit. To be fair, they might just being nice when they're invited on stage to coorperate, like they'll not stare at things they think are suspicious, rather coorperate with the magicans to perfect their act since they are part of it.

Allen Stare there is a judge on the back stage that is told how the trick is done so the person can't do that. They are also there to listen on pen & teller when they are talking to who ever the act is if they are not on track the can decide they fooled them it happen once. When they where hints on who they thought a trick was done the judge felt they missed a part of the trick and decided they fooled them
