These old F units are so pretty. I love that streamlined look. Its very art deco and semi futuristic

Great video. The horn sounds like fog horn. Great to see an old DL&W train back on the rails.

I grew up in East Stroudsburg, directly across the tracks from where the camera is located at 12:05! My brother and I would look out our bedroom window when the passenger trains would roll by in the evening. We spent many a Saturday "walking the tracks" in the direction from which that train had just come. Might even have hopped a quick ride or two!

I rode the EL in the 60's from Hoboken to Scranton and back several times as a child. That train would absolutely rocket through Tobyhanna depot .. either direction, I mean like 100 MPH. No joke... Those are fond memories

Southern Railway System used F3's for passenger service on trains such as the Washington-Atlanta "Peach Queen." They repowered them as F9's, though, in later years.

Actually, I'm headed to Bellingham tomorrow in PA..I was at Gouldsboro last week. I was on I30 on Saturday headed for a pickup in Lancaster and a steam train passed right below me, a second sooner or later and I would have seen who it was. Oh well, next time..LOL

The Lackawanna railroad color scheme on their Diesel engines which was used by the Erie Lackawanna were the best color schemes, the next was the Delaware & Hudson, and the Santa Fe war bonnet scheme.
@1940limited8 жыл бұрын
They did these in the freight scheme. There was another scheme for passenger locomotives.
@Panzer-5358 жыл бұрын
This is DL&W freight scheme, E-L used DL&W's passenger colors.

Oh, I dunno. The L&N had some pretty good paint schemes on their streamliners.
@elisasuperiordork67557 жыл бұрын
and don't forget about the McGinnis era- paint schemes on both the B&M and the NH... a fine selection of very flashy, stylish paint jobs, which New England may never see again..
@1940limited6 жыл бұрын
This color scheme is for freight locomotives.

Around the 3 min. mark which railroad used that bridge? Is it service or abandoned? Any tracks on it? Thanks.

That's the former Jessup branch of the Erie. Some of the track is still in use, but not the bridge.

So what was the trouble they had with the F unit in E. Stroudsburg?
@PennRailVideos13 жыл бұрын
@notalott I think part of the old RoW is, maybe not the bridge it self. Either way, trains don't run over it anymore.

do those F3 locomotives belong to NCTM & the F3's horn sounds like a tug boat
@elisasuperiordork67557 жыл бұрын
Early diesel horns sounded like that. Eventually they figured out that more melodic horns might be nicer, but there's a certain charm to the early ones all the same. Lionel made some models in the postwar era (1946-1969) based off of these locos, which had electronic buzzers built into them, to replicate the sound of the horns... much higher pitched, but they actually sound pretty similar!
@PennRailVideos13 жыл бұрын
@koasterkidd We didn't stick around for that.
