Penns Creek Summertime Flyfishing, "STREAMERS AND MORE!!", June 2019

Ok, this one is for you streamer guys! Had to talk my son in to hitting Penns Creek with me today. He's usually going after muskies, pike , pickerel, stripers or smallmouths. Well I know now, he's glad he came. I started off really slow nymphing, but my son, with his Black Sex Dungeon streamer, just took off running. He had action from the first two minutes of the day up to around 3pm, can you believe it, right through the hottest part of the day! A bunch of hookups, landing a good 10, with another 10 getting off, plus all the missed hits and follows! I had more fun watching him than fishing myself. I did finally catch up after 3pm, getting into a bunch of rainbows, then getting some top water action for both of us towards evening. A great day considering it was day one of a three day predicted heat wave, but water levels were good, with still good water temps and water clarity was a little dirty, a pretty good recipe for trout fishing. Outstanding video, dont'cha just love it when the off spring beats your butt? Got the same problem with my grand son...LOL. Great video Scott, you got to love that Penns when it comes to quality fishing and trout. Being only 45 minutes from it I have fished it quite a lot over the years and have never been disappointed on any trip. Waters down for the time being up here, would love to get up on the PIne , but with the 4th of July weekend on the horizon "Forget it"!!!. The canoe and kayak hatches will be unbelievable this week end...Tight Lines

@@pawoodsnwater7551 I'm originally from Pennsylvania the south western part. I live now in Indiana. I miss those early days of stream fishing with my dad. I just recently took up fly fishing for trout again this will be my second season at it. Been tying my own flies like I did as a kid, enjoy it very much! I try to watch as much as I can to learn. I'm an avid bass fisherman, but since I'm close to retirement I decided to take up the art of trout fishing from fall to winter on to early spring! I'm havi g a blast doing it again! Where would be a good Spot to start on Penns Creek I’m from PA I really want to fish pens Creek but I have no idea where to go

Hi Brian! Well, Penns has good fishing all throughout but, if you’re new, I’d say stick to lower Penns, anywhere from the area around Cherry Run parking lot down to Weikert’s Jolly Rd area, easier access, Penns fishes well but it changes day to day and difficult to wade, bring a wading staff. Stick to nymphing and really hit every seam, it’s better to thoroughly pick apart the stream rather than trying to cover a lot of water. Be patient and please don’t get discouraged, I like fishing it year round but for a newbie, it may be better in the Spring when the water and bugs are cooperating and fish are more active. Just a suggestion, but even if the fishing is slow, there’s something always to learn on the stream. Have fun.

I'm thinking about doing a trip up to pends creek do you have any recommendations on sections to fish?

sam merrill Hi Sam! Thanks for watching! Right now, make sure the water temps are ok, I think I would recommend the lower section from Cherry Run down and around Weikert, a couple of feeders come in above around the campground and a couple below, also best time would be in the morning after the night time cool down. If water temps are 66-67 or below, evenings are good for hatches, Isonychia, BWOs and caddis. Also watch for rain and water levels, 400cfs or below is ok for wading. Good luck and have fun.

Douglas Randall Yes, I’m very comfortable with my 10ft Rods nymphing and dry flyfishing, more especially on bigger waters, that’s the limit tho, don’t like using anything over ten foot for dries. Thanks for asking.
