OK Public Service Announcement. The lure I'm using is NOT the Lake X Lures Cannon Ball Jr., it's the Lake X Lures Fat Bastard (Same thing but smaller, 3.1 oz vs 5.8 oz). I bought the bait years ago at a show and I guess I forgot. I just realized this when I ordered a backup and received a massive bait.

BIIIIIG PIKE!" until I saw what it actually was 😆 - and I've caught bats in my line a few times when fishing at dusk, but I can't say I've had an owl chase my lure before lol! hell ya! I wanna get my hands on a flaptail style lure - I think it will work just as well or better. I'm not sure but I also think the murkiness of the water may play a role in why topwater is so good. Slow and steady! Owl scared the crap out of me, came out of no where. I was actually scanning your instagram to see if you made any topwaters like flaptails or ploppers. If you ever do let me know!

I’ve had a few instances with birds and top water. I came dangerously close to hooking a loon one time. I’ve always wondered what I’d do if I actually hooked one because there’s no way in hell I’m brining a crazed wild animal into or even close to the boat that’s sporting a large Muskie bait with treble hooks. I guess the best you could do would be to cut the line, call the DNR, and hope for the best.
@keithsada13802 жыл бұрын
I see you're having no troubles getting action. But when throwing top water baits, I always finish the retrieve off with my rod tip down in the water about a foot or two for the last 10 ft or so of the retrieve. I've gotten lots of strikes that way. And when throwing spinner baits, a large circle by the boat finishing off with your rod tip down alongside the boat underwater and not letting the spinner blade stop, will get strikes right by the boat as well. Happy fishing.

5 days before and after a new Moon 🌚 is supposedly better fishing because of the dimming moon and fish are more aggressive feeding compared to a full Moon were its brighter and fish feed more at night and are lying up full in the day! But fishing at night in a full moon phase kicks ass! Fishing costal waters with a full moon overhead and strong tides in the day especially in the winter as the water warms can be explosive! I miss fishing rivers they are the best! Especially ones with current so you're able to read the boils & swirls knowing the structure is below the surface were the bigger dominant fish will take advantage of weak current and wait for prey to drift by! It's the same concept I use fishing West Galveston Bay and passes, nice video! Sometimes fishing top water lures with the newer fast rods and braided lines, can cause a fisherman to try a set hook to quickly, keep the reel and line setup but try using an older Garcia Eglass rod they are a slower action and even if you react to quickly? It still takes a second or to for the rod to load up and I think you miss fewer sticks on top water baits and spoons, but you can cast a mile after learning how load up on a cast the blank tends to slingshot the baits farther, just by using the rod action! keeping the rod tip high at all times through the cast & retrieve so the rod will absorb the initial strike and fight, of course lowering the rod if the fish clears the water surface then back into the 10 o'clock position again! If you run into a "70's" Garcia red blank eglass rod, the ones with the cork handles a metal reel seats especially the one piece 7' in decent shape and cheap? Buy it you might have to replace the eyes for the newer lines with Fujii guides or double footed Stainless Steel eyes? But if there's no cracks or stress fractures? They're bulletproof! The one piece red 7' footer can handle a 2 oz lure+, the the two piece red 7' -6" probably up to 3-4 ozs? Also they made an Aqua Blue 7' two piece Spinning Rod called the Reef Series for saltwater fishing they have a Bone fish emblem on them, 1 1/2 oz lures but they might be a great Muskie Rod? Especially fishing rivers or creeks where sometimes you have to present a cast at weird angles to place a bait around structure! The rods will have a "g" in the butt cap! Later on they they stop making them in NJ and just put plastic butt caps on them! Not their best rod builders! They are heavier then the blanks but they take a beating unlike the newer blanks were if you get a knick or white line from rods crossing or contact rest assured that's where it'll fail during fighting a fish! TMI I'll shut TFU! Love to see you fish the old Heddon 7000 Flaptail Series in that water! Or the Original 7" two hook Rapala Magnum Wobbler both can be fished straight retrieve or in as a Jerkbait, anything moving sideways is a trigger to a predator fish! Freshwater or Saltwater! Hooked a Five foot hybrid at Glendale lake and there were two just as big if not bigger than it near the feeding trough (AKA causeway) An Amish man helped me land the giant and wanted it but I said it is a great creature that deserves to live. We measured it and released it and I'm pretty sure someone else will catch it or hook it because it was completely healthy and perfect. Regardless of what anyone says, they get much bigger due to genetic manipulation or engineering. ⚠️ Some look like kayak sized submarines.We have all witnessed them eating ducks and geese early in the morning.
