I was her 4 years ago I tried to commit suicide behind the hospital downtown I think it was st johns I thought if someone found me there my kids wouldn't be to embarrassed that I was trying to make it to hospital some homeless dude walked in the hospital told security got help got insurance went to rehab that was 5 years ago still struggling with alcohol but I have my own apartment just think if we all had health care penny might still be here I can't stop crying for her my kids barely talk to me but I'm alive I count my blessings everyday

I feel awful for all these people who live like this. However, this type of thing doesn't happen in vacuum. It's a series of bad choices that led them where they are. Throwing more money at the situation won't help at all. Nothing will change for them until they want to change. There are already plenty of resources available for them when they want it. Until then, it's just a huge waste of money. Mainly taxpayers money

I really don't think that would work. Teens are in a stage in life where they want to explore life, but the more taboo stuff in it. Also, my older sister is unfortunately a smoker. There are pictures on every single cigarette box of what smoking can do to your body and warnings in huge letters. That didn't stop her from starting smoking and it still doesn't stop her from doing it now. I asked her about what she thinks about the warning signs and she said 'i try not to pay attention to it'. I think insead of telling teens 'don't do drugs ever!' adults should calmly talk about what it can do in a possitive way, but also the negative effects of it. The teen's curiosity can become less and after considering the pros and cons they won't get interested. Or i know some parents who had that talk with their teen and actually did the drug with them (not heroin or anything like that, but alcohol and weed) If a teen will do it no matter what you say they might as well do it in a safe enviornment with someone they can trust. This can decrease their interest in it, since it seemed like not much of a big deal and strengthen their trust with the adult(s) in their life

I tried to get help i tried to quit. I neber went as far as she did.. nit to judge her. Just breaks my heart. She seems so sweet.. pretty sad I had to lie to get put on medical card just to get me help. I havent done a drug in i havent kept a date, im bad with dayes. But at least 3 years since I got the scare of my life. Trying to get off methadone, took tramodol and it knocked into seizures and stopped breathing. Sad part about that it felt amazing, i seen a bright light i know im not lying i was reaching to it it was like I was under water and I could hear voices but they sounded weird and all kver the place the light was like when u swim and open your eyes under water then when u look at light there is a glare around the light I cant explain well anhways, it was like all the pain went away and I was so content and it was like heaven like what u would think heaven feels.. my husband was hitting me in the face he said I was blue, and foam was coming out my mouth and my face he said , scared him, he said he has never seen a face do that before. Like there were demons in me.. and then I stopped moving he said I wasn't breathing for a good 7 to 10 mins.. and then he said I took a deep breath and woke up and got up loke nothijg happened, sorry if i am rambling hope I make sence.. anyways. I never tried to get high of tbkse pills, I was trying to get myself off the methadone, it ks worse than pills and boy... anyways my kids were there and my daughter had a friend. I felt aweful.. since then. I have nkt touched another pill. I got help and was put on suboxone.. now I want off that. I dont thibk ot will ever happen.. just thought i would share ..

It's heart breaking but I also understand that treatment costs money. I don't really know the economic situation over there but here in Australia our government pays. The only problem is if you decide to use it, you're on a long waiting list and the place you stay aren't that great from what I've heard. But beggars can't be choosers. Private health insurance is the best way to go if you have it. It sucks but money talks....

In my experience, addicts need inpatient treatment for a while before they go into a sober living, or halfway house.

There's a lot of issues getting help for addiction in Auatralia too. Not enough rehab beds for the people who want them. There's also very few available for 'dual diagnosis', people with mental illness and addiction, and very few resources in rural Australia. Its not as bad as America, but we need to start funding these programs better so everyone can have access. It's important to actually listen to the stories of those who have fallen through the cracks in accessing health care in Aus. I have been sober for 24 years through the strength I found in Christ...I tried it all. Go to your state Health Department, like where COVID testing is done , and ask about their suboxone program. It will help your daughter get off of heroin with this medication which is similar to methadone. Just tell her it will help her from getting sick while quitting heroin. I can imagine what her mind must have been like back then and with out the correct help it’s messed her life up. Also she mentioned she sleeps underneath the bridge that just reminds me of that nirvana track.
