I also learnt in a Penny board being a total beginner. I agree with Kuala Lumpar in that the Nickel is probably better choice as you have more board space to play around with. It's only when you get to know your board well, depending in your learning curve can be anything from 2 days to longer. Balance is essential, I have been riding my own Penny for 4 months and it's only now that am understanding the boards nature, how to control turns etc. in the beginning you think how hard can it be standing on a board but the intricacies are far more bigger than you would imagine. You know when you're doing it right as cruising seems like gliding on air and you get that 'buzz' feeling! Happy skating everyone

The part about taking a month to learn isn't necessarily true. I had never stepped foot on a skateboard in my life, and my friends wanted me to try it. I got on one of their pennies and learned within a few hours.
@CottageandCompany10 жыл бұрын
The learning curve differs for everyone. From my experience I have noticed, to become 100% comfortable, stable, and efficient at riding a skateboard, it takes around a month. It depends on many factors though. Great that you learned in so little time! have fun!

So to clarify, I'm starting college in the fall and I've heard that the penny is great for college students because it's so small and is the easiest to store and carry around. However, I have never in my life ridden any kind of board. So would it still be better to start with a nickel? Are they relatively portable/storable as well? (Like for example, I've heard a penny can easily be stored under your desk so you don't have to leave it outside or something.) Or would a penny still be okay, despite not having any kind of experience? Based on what I've read I was leaning towards a penny but I also don't want to not be able to ride it, haha. Thanks!
@CottageandCompany9 жыл бұрын
ForeverCellist I would highly recommend a Penny for commuting around a college campus. Like you said the portability is key. Don't be intimidated by learning on a Penny, With practice you will begin to feel comfortable any any board you choose to start on. Good luck, and have fun!

My first board was a penny, and I don't know how, but it was so easy to ride. Like, I had a normal sense to be on it, and I've fallen a few times from having a misplaced foot somewhere, but I can keep a good balance and now I'm pretty amazing on the penny. So any board to start off on is a personal opinion!

I was borrowing my friends penny board and it didn't take a long time it took me 10 or 15 minutes or less to learn how to use a penny board. I knew a Nickel is easy to ride for beginners but I like going fast so I chose the penny board as my starter board.

I would recommend to buy I nickel first because of what you said and I just bought my cousin a nickel, but I learned to ride on a Penny and I really was just foucused on doing tricks. I'm sure you've heard this plenty of times before, but I still can't decide! I really like the portability of the penny and how easy it is to carry around but I don't absolutely have to have portability. The nickel is really cool too and I like that's it's more stable and better for beginners. So I have two questions, which board would you recommend? Is the nickel heavy and bulky? I would greatly appreciate any advice or help! Great job on the vids man keep up the good work!

Hey I notice you have no problem going pretty fast. I am a beginner, but when slightly downhill it feels I will hurt myself if I keep going. Hey! I'm 16, 5 ft 2 with size 3 UK feet (tiny I know haha) and have never ridden a skateboard in my life but I want to get one for my 17th birthday. I'm just going to use the board for cruising and going down small hills. I don't mind having to carry a little extra weight with the nickel and hear it's better for beginners but I'm not sure if it will be too big for me because my feet are so small. What board do you think I should get?
@diobrando95324 жыл бұрын
Sarah Anne Hi, so I am also 5’2 but with size 4 UK feet. I’ve never really had a problem with the nickel board being to big for me. I think it won’t be harder for you on a nickel board but it might just look a little big. But I’ve also ridden an penny board and it’s really easy to ride, so I just recommend getting the size you want. Just pick the cruiser that you like the best, from my experience it isn’t really hard at all.

I've pretty much watched all your videos about the penny and the nickel and I am still really torn between the two. I always thought having a smaller, portable board would be perfect but I am scared it's going to be really hard to learn how to skate on it. I am a surfer so I do know the bigger it is, the easier, but I have always wanted a penny. I am also pretty small, (5'2 and my feet are a women size 6) so I think the penny would fit. I would just really like to have your opinion. THANKS btw your videos are really good and your content helps a lot. x

I got my penny over sprig break. I've never tried out a skateboard until I bought my first penny. I didn't know how to ride a penny until I kept practicing. You say that you fully learn in 1-2 months meanwhile I learned in 1 1/2 days. Also the guy who helped me pick out my board said that the penny is easier than the nickle but he had different reasons why, I forgot what they were. Anyway just getting that out there how it was kinda different from what you were dating not sure who is right or wrong. Also I really like your channel.
@CottageandCompany10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Glad to hear you learned quickly.Learning to ride differs vastly for everyone. The 1-2 months that I gave was a generalization of the length of time it may take someone to learn to ride with confidence and comfort.

If you have big feet then get a nickel. If you have smaller feet get a dime. What I think is a 7 inch foot is for dime, and 8 and above is for nickel. 8 inch feet you can just choose what board you want. I prefer the nickel (9 1/2 inch foot) because it is bigger, fits my foot, thicker, and is just for me. It turns slower than a dime from my experience but it doesn't matter.

I'm stuck on which board to get. I've only started skateboarding, so far it is easy. I like the portability of a penny but everyone says that the nickel is much easier to maneuver and learn for a beginners. The road outside my house aren't the smoothest roads and aren't too rough either, but that just might be the skateboard I have currently. Therefore, I don't want to get a skateboard which is really difficult to learn for a beginner. I just want a skateboard to cruise around town, go to friends houses etc, not to do tricks. I also want to take it aboard. Which board you think would suit me best?

I don't have any serious skateboarding experience but I'm determined to start learning, Practically every expert on the internet says the Nickel is better for beginners (just like you, very helpful video, thanks!), which is why I think I should go for the Nickel, but somehow I prefer the Penny. I want to use the board for fun, I'm not planning on riding very long distances with it or anything. I'm just really afraid I'll regret buying the Penny because I might find it hard to learn to ride it... Should I go for what is smart here or for what I want more? Thanks!

Go for the Penny! Yes it my be SLIGHTLY more difficult to learn on, but when you do get the hang of it, you will be riding on the board that you like best. Plus once you learn on the Penny, you can ride anything. Thats my opinion :) Good luck!

Does anyone have any tips on how to get confident on the board? I got my nickel a few days ago and can't get the hang of it. I'm always hunched over for fear of falling and can't push off without holding onto something. I've never ridden a board before but I'm disappointed I can't get going.

Ally B Its all about practice. It takes people a range of a few days to a few month to finally get comfortable riding a skateboard. It just depends who you are, and how much you practice. Stick with it. Its worth it. Good luck!

Practice on a flat space (a basketball court for example.) and just cruise. Then when you think you are ready try SMALL sloped mountains. My sister went done a large sloped mountain, hit a speed bump and BAM got scrapes everywhere. So practice makes perfect.

Everyone falls bro, it's part of it, if your just going to be scared don't right, I would say practice somewhere that there isn't card like a tennis court, racket ball court, basketball court, even a dead in a a neighborhood, put on some headphones, relax, and just have fun, just remember everyone falls, it happens

I've ridden a skateboard before but it's been a while. Here's the thing, I'm really short and have small feet, i'm around a 3-5 in women's and men's shoe. Should I start with a penny or try the nickel?

I ride a 48 inch longboard and I'm switching to a penny board for easier storage. I ride mongoose style. Which do you think i should get?

If you're looking for portability the Penny is the best choice.

Do you think knowing how to ride a waveboard gives you a bit of an advantage when learning the penny?
@CottageandCompany10 жыл бұрын
Im sure it helps with balance, but other than that they're really two different styles of board.

I have never stepped foot on a skateboard in my life. I feel like I am leaning towards the penny just because when I ride it to college and on campus as well, the penny would fit in my backpack, but the nickel won't. I don't know where I would put it if I had the nickel. It won't be TOO hard to learn for a beginner right?

ThatOneWeirdGal Check out my other comment, PRactice make perfect. You can definitely learn on the Penny :)

Will these hold a heavier rider? I'm not talking about any tricks just cruising?

Yes, if they can get through getting run over with a 4000Ibs car, they can stand the weight of a human being :)

Ok so my neighbor tried to teach me to skate on his skateboard like a couple years ago and I haven't stepped on a board since. I was never very good so I consider myself a beginner. I just want a board to cruise around and maybe ride to my friend's house and my streets aren't the best. I'm trying to figure out if the nickel or penny would be better for me. What would you recommend? Great video btw.

I say Nickel, mostly because of your road conditions. The nickel, being larger, tends to take the rough surfaces better.
@theanxoiushero8004 жыл бұрын
I know this video is old, but is the nickel harder for smaller people, specifically with smaller feet

Hey im looking to bring either a nickel or penny to college with me because my classes are a fair distance away from my dorm. I used to skateboard all the time and I'm just wondering the weight of a nickel? Is it similar to a skateboard or lighter? I might get a penny if the weight of a nickel is too much because I'd have to carry it everywhere. Thanks for your time!

My friend has a longboard, and I rode around on that but I want to spend a bit less and have a better board for cruising and turning. I have no trouble learning but I was wondering if I should get a penny or nickel for cruising
@CottageandCompany10 жыл бұрын
If you want something more similar to a traditional longboard, the Nickel is a better choice for you.
