@pennyboardtyler
@pennyboardtyler 2 жыл бұрын
Speed wobbles usually occur when you have either a combination of too loose of trucks or too much weight in the back of the board. So first, start with your trucks, then next, make sure your weight is closer to the front of the board (and not leaning back)

First thing is first, gloves will save your life. Not just slide gloves, those are just the ones less likely to pull you off your board. Get some work gloves or something, seriously. Second, pursuant to gloves. I've seen slides recommended, they're hairy on a penny board and likely to just put you worse off than you were by setting you up switch. Heelside highsides are awful. Penny boards aren't meant for speed. At the speeds you should be doing on a penny board, running out is a safe bet, however still not the best one. Grass is a good bet for this, because if you slam, you're doing it onto dirt instead of pavement. You also don't get nearly as much roadrash from grass. If youre near the end of the slope, instead of bailing, just get low and ride it out as best you can. If you can get low enough to put your hands on the ground, you have a TON of leverage to put on the ground, and it also gets your center of gravity lower which, placed towards the nose, will help prevent the board from oscillating beneath you, aka wobbles. If you can get low enough to grab the stone of your board, you can still put your foot down. "Pumping the brakes" as you describe it is what aggressive footbraking looks like for beginners. It's a good way to get YEETed off the board. I've done this, it's a good way to speedrun getting rid of your knees. It also wears out your ankles really fast, which you won't feel the effects of until later. If you have the balance to do this, you have the balance to grab the nose of your board to keep your balance while you use your back foot as a brake. If you ABSOLUTELY MUST BAIL, get as low as you possibly can. Rolling is what breaks bones, or worse. ALWAYS prioritize your bones and life over your skin. Take the scars for what they are and keep skating for another day. The closer you are to the ground, the more control you'll have over your center of mass. I learned how to run out my bails. Then I tried running out of some wobbles doing about 40 MPH, and then I needed to have my left hand surgically rebuilt. Now I've had some pretty extensive road rash, and I'd take that over bruised ribs and some new metal bits any day. I mean this with all sincerity, I love to see folks sharing the stoke. Skating is a wonderful sport that can be adapted to fit anybodys preferences. I like going fast, and I love that feeling just on the edge of control, and I'm stoked that you're stoked, but please... get a longer wheelbase. Penny boards are great, but they're not meant for aggressive riding. I don't know if you recall the 90s and early oughts where skating became a misdemeanor in many places because of how many people were doing goofy dangerous things, but penny boards have a time and a place and skating carries its own risks. Speed and short wheelbases with topmounted TKPs are not a recipe for success. Please be safe, my dude.

@pennyboardtyler
@pennyboardtyler 2 жыл бұрын
Speed wobbles occur at higher speeds typically from: 1) Too loose of trucks (especially when the back truck is noticeably looser than the front) so you'll want to double check that these. 2) Your weight is too far back on your board (i.e. you need to lean forward and have more weight in your front leg). 3) Your body positioning is also too high/tall, (i.e. you need to make sure you are lower to your board, with knees bent).

People mostly are drawn to Penny boards because of convenient & portable they are to travel with. They fit easily in a backpack, in a locker, on a plane, etc. so being able to pick up and go wherever is typically a common theme. Other people also like their general aesthetic - the customizable plastic deck with various wheel and truck colors also look more "fun" to a lot of people. I mainly cruise and explore with my boards so I prefer my 22inch board over my regular skateboard and longboard because I travel a lot for work and leisure. If I was to go just around my neighborhood though, the longboard is my go-to because it's easiest and most stable to ride, so I often can bomb hills faster with less fear of falling. Hope that helps give more insight; thanks for your comment 🤘🏼

@pennyboardtyler
@pennyboardtyler 2 жыл бұрын
I’ll assume you’d be riding down a hill? Generally you’d be looking to ride it out if you can, harder carving if it’s safe, learn to power slide (which I didn’t cover because I personally think it’s harder on a Penny), or bail. If you end fall, learning to roll as you fall helps keep you from getting too beat up on one
