Avi and Kevin are the meat and potatoes of the group. Avi does the techno, wind and whistle sounds as well as the bass. He’s got a crazy overtone skill!

Pentatonix does their own arranging with the man they call their 6th member, Ben Bram. Bram is the "mutual friend" PTX will reference who hooked Avi up with The Trio, so he has been with them from the start. A lot of people give Bram all the credit for arranging, but that isn't correct. There are multiple videos discussing - and some showing - their process. Basically, a member comes to the group with a suggestion for a song and they do rough arragements as circle jam sessions. Then they take those to Bram, who helps them fine tune it and makes it into sheet music for them. I believe Scott and Kevin (and once, Avi) do the bulk of the work. Which makes sense, Scott is just a music genius - he was in his first year of college when they went on the Sing-Off - but Kevin performed at Carnegie Hall twice and Avi is an opera-trained basso profundo. Matt, the new bass, also graduated Berkley with some kind of music degree so I'm sure he is heavily involved, there just isn't as much documented proof yet. Mitch has started working on his knowledge of mixing and producing since the pandemic, saying he feels like it's something he should have already been more aware of but better late than never. He did all the work on the solo cover he released a week or so ago and members have commented on how he has come into his own with writing, as well. He skipped his highschool graduation to be on The Sing-Off. Kirstin has some of the most writing credits for PTX originals, as well as the songs on her solo EP. I'm not sure about Kirstin, but the others all play at least one instrument, as well. They're just insane.

Your guitar solo was FANTASTIC!! The first time I heard this backstage version of Daft Punk, I was even MORE blown away than when I first heard the studio version. This is the video I usually point people to that think Pentatonix is fake or nothing but studio trickery. And yes, they named themselves after the Pentatonic Scale. Scott came up with the name and put the "X" on the end because he thought it was cool!

I love A Capella it’s the most raw performance u can get...I loved how they perfectly placed themselves and for me this showed me their true talent..I love all their performances but this one for me was so organic but also very fun to watch...In my opinion they didn’t do it the same as the original with added twists they did it better than the original which to me is what I would call perfection...I love watching them because their happiness and love for music resonates in each of their performances but they certainly proved they can show up anywhere and sing on command without any instrument and leave an audience with their jaw dropping...This was amazing and I truly love the positive vibes they shed to each other as well as the people watching them...this was just overall greatness 🆙🆙🆙🙌🙌🙌

👉👉YES! PENTATONIX is for the pentatonic scale Scott (tall blonde) named the group. All 5 members have a wide vocal range.... Scott Hoying - baritone, bass (covers bass when bass has a singing lead) falsetto, KING of riffs and runs VERY SOULFUL!!! Kirstie Maldonado - mezzo soprano, alto Mitch Grassi - counter tenor Avi Kaplan - bass (basso profundo) baritone, overtone. Kevin Olusula (K.O) beatboxer, tenor, cello. .....Matt Sallee (new bass) bass, baritone

Great Reaction as Usual T. R.l!!!! I Love Them All!!!! But Mitch & Kirstin both Sound So Angelic!!!! Mitch Grassi (Counter-Tenor) & Kirstin (Mezzo-Soprano)!!!! Sometimes it's hard to figure out which one is Singing!!!! Scott Hoying (Baritone & takes over Bass sometimes), & Avi Kaplan (Bass from 2011-2017) & then Avi hand picked Matt Sallee (Bass from 2017 - Present) to take over when he left & Kevin Olusola (Beatboxer & Cello = Celloboxing)!!!!

PTX is my favorite group and I know nothing about music, so your in depth analysis is much appreciated. Your a music genius yourself! Wonderful guitar serenade. Thanks so much. The Pentatonic scale of 5 is why they chose the 5 group name, just put an 'x' on the end to modernize it. Clever, I think.

You have to watch the original video. It is perfection! They won a Grammy for that arrangement. People who go through the Copyright process are ok. It takes a few days, but we'll worth it! I subed the first minute I heard your first PTX Video. I have seen them in concert. They were great. My complaint is the arena was old with bad acoustics for today's complicated sounds. It is the James Brown Arena in Augusta, GA. Named for a music great, but sadly its time has come to be renovated or rebuilt. I saw Dave Matthews at an outdoor arena and I was so upset. The sound system was terrible! What we heard sounded like a bunch of mumbling. We couldn't understand any words. Concert tickets are not cheap!

Mitch is NOT short - it's just that everyone else is more so thin. Plus he stands next to giant Scott who is 6'3". Avi is 5'11", Kevin is also 5'10" same Kirstie 5'4". Avi did most of the whistle. If you look at the officially video you can see him going too town on it.

Mitch is a high tenor, not a soprano. He often sings higher than a female without any visible effort. He was simply born with this range and voice. Of course he has had training just as the others have. Since about from age 8 when school together. They (Scott, Mitch, Kirsten or Kirsty) are known as The Trio.

@GlassesKingdom3 жыл бұрын
Good question
@cmacvicar743 жыл бұрын
As of right now, the field of music they fit into is not brand new. Doo-Whop and Barbershop Quartet groups have been perfecting close harmony a cappella for decades (over a century for BBS). The reason they don’t have more Grammys is because what they are able to do, until this point, has been considered a side show or anomaly. They aren’t enough mainstream popular a capella groups to compare them against for an awards ceremony. Pioneers in a budding genre of music are often not even recognized for what they truly can do until after they have contemporaries to judge them against.

MItch's voice is such that he can sing tenor, alto, or soprano easily. His range actually goes well down into the baritone but he's not very melodic down there. Scott = baritone (and bass at need), and bass is Avi (through 2017) and then Matt. Kevin, the beat-boxer, also has a sweet high tenor that you can hear showcased in many of their most inspiring covers, such as "Amazing Grace," "Mary Did You Know?" and "Imagine."
