That makes perfect sense to me! I know some other artists like that as well. Someone will ask me what my favourite song is, I answer, but then I hear one again that I didn't pick and think... hmmm, maybe that's my favourite - lol. It's a little like picking your favourite child or grandchild. 🙂

😊❤ Hi! 😅 I agree that it is nearly impossible to pick a favorite song from PTX! But that being said; I do have 2 original songs of their's that are absolutely fabulous!! First is 'Sing', it's so fun and upbeat!! It's a perfect summer song! Like the song says; 'go and roll them windows down!' 😅 I also notice that it doesn't seem to get blocked either. 😅 Second is called 'I Rise', it's an anthem that will raise your spirits if you are down! And if you have any military ties ... you will Love It!! Thanks for jumping in this rabbit hole, you will never be disappointed no matter what you choose to listen to!! 😊❤❤

Have you noticed that #Pentatonix publishes EVERYTHING to KZbin at the same time as they release it on an album? There's a good reason for this. In 2011 Pentatonix got their start by appearing on NBC's a cappella competition show, _The Sing-Off._ They appeared through the entire season, arranging and rehearsing two songs every two weeks, in addition to doing group performances with other contestants; it was a grueling schedule. Eventually they won. The grand prize was $200,000 and a recording contract with a company named Epic, which is a minor subsidiary of Sony, the sponsors of the show. That recording contract is the whole reason The Trio (Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch) formed Pentatonix in the first place - it was supposed to be their ticket to making a career for themselves doing the thing they loved best, without having to split up these three best friends. They added Avi and Kevin to the group specifically to meet _The Sing-Off's_ size requirement. And by the end of those intense ~3 months on the show, Avi and Kevin had been thoroughly integrated into this little family of choice; all five of them were completely invested in Pentatonix. So, they'd won. $200,000 split five ways came to $40,000 apiece (before taxes), which isn't a bad start on a little nest egg, as well as giving them some cash to cover living expenses while waiting for album sales to start bringing in money. They all moved to California; rented apartments in the same building; and reported to Epic that they were ready to begin recording whenever Epic was ready for them. And Epic told them that they'd decided there was no future in a cappella music; they didn't know how to market a purely a cappella band and they were reneging on the contract. So, how do you react to a crushing blow like this? The way the members of Pentatonix saw it, giving up was not an option; they were entirely invested in making a success of Pentatonix. So they needed to find some other publisher. The first step was to pool their winnings. The second step was to save money by dropping two of the apartments - Kevin and Avi could share one apartment and Mitch and Scott could share another. The third step was to start a KZbin channel, @ptxofficial, where they could post their music. They lived frugally; they bought nothing they didn't actually need. They arranged music and rehearsed every day. And whenever they had a new song ready they recorded it on their iPhones or iPads and posted it to KZbin. Their fans from _The Sing-Off_ found them fairly quickly, and subscribed, and shared, and a few of them became patrons. And KZbin reactors found them, and reacted, and more people subscribed, and some of THOSE became Patrons, and Pentatonix started going viral. And Sony noticed. "Hey, Pentatonix. You're doing really well on KZbin; we're impressed. We have another minor subsidiary named Madison Gate. They mostly publish movie soundtracks, so they aren't ideal for a singing group, but they could at least put out a few albums. Are you intersted?" Hmm 🤔. We might have to think about that for five seconds or so. Darn right we're interested! Then came "Daft Punk Medley," and Pentatonix became the first (and still only) a cappella band to win a Grammy. And again, Sony noticed (it must have come as a shock to be notified that Madison Gate, of all their subsidiaries, had an actual Grammy winner). "Hey, Pentatonix. Um, we've been thinking it over, and we think you might be a better fit with RCA, our flagship company. Are you open to changing publishers?" Pentatonix has been with RCA ever since. So Pentatonix releases everything to KZbin, in honor of their beginnings and the fans who gave them their start. And yes, they also honor reactors; there are SuperFruit videos of Mitch and Scott unexpectedly showing up at live stream reactions and practically giving the reactors heart attacks. But RCA owns the copyrights, and RCA didn't wager their whole careers on becoming KZbin sensations the way Pentatonix did. It isn't Pentatonix that gets reaction videos taken down; it's RCA. But you know what RCA DOESN'T own the copyrights to? Live performances. Including live Vevo performances. This is one of several reasons the pentaholics specifically recommended THIS performance to you. You shouldn't have any trouble keeping it up.

Thank you for your comments and lots of information. Some of this I had heard before; some I hadn't. It is all very interesting. I keep reacting to Pentatonix no matter what. I did a reaction to one of Mitch & Scott's Superfruit videos as well - very funny. I realize that it is usually the production company that tends to make it a challenge - with other artists as well. Some are better than others, but that's life. I'm glad that the Pentatonix member were flexible and kept working on their dream. Being able to pivot is what keeps a lot of people alive and thriving! There are some songs that defy reinterpretation in my mind, ones for which a cover will never be an upgrade. As a youngster in the 60s,, I was a huge fan of the Monkees, so their version of I’m a Believer will always be my favorite. Same for most of the Beatles catalog, any recording by Janis Joplin and others too numerous to list. Pentatonix has never grated on my nerves with their covers, quite the opposite, and I love many of their originals and medleys to boot. Thanks for persevering even when your videos get challenged by their record label for copyright infringement. Layering text or filters over the visuals seems to help, and we don’t mind a bit. As long as you can see it, we’re good. I think this one highlights how their voices have matured, and it’s great when Kevin gets to accompany with the cello. Loved your reaction, as always! Peace …

Thank you. Yes, there are some songs that don't translate well to other artists. I try to listen without comparing too much but it is inevitable at times. Still, what might not work for me could work well for others. Sometimes it depends on whose version you heard first as well. That's not always the case either. For example, I read some of Leonard Cohen's poetry and listened to his music including his song Hallelujah long before I heard Jeff Buckley do it - but Jeff's version is still my favourite. I have put words over some of the videos, but they almost always still get blocked anyway. I used to just wait until the block is over (usually 3 days for some reason) but now I go back and upload again without the words and then wait the 3 days. I figure I might as well have the video clearly visible if they are going to block either way - lol. I'm not just talking about Pentatonix either- this seems to apply for any video that gets blocked. C'est la vie. 🙂
