This was recorded in New York City while they were on a break from touring and Kirstin had the female lead in the Broadway show, kinky Boots. Scott (the lead in this video), Kirstin, and Mitch were music nerds and knew each other as kids. They sang together in high school as The Trio. After high school, they added the bass, Avi (not in this video), and the beatboxer, Kevin to form Pentatonix (PTX).The current bass, Matt, took over from Avi in 2017. PTX was formed in order to compete in the 2011 tv show called the Sing Off. They won and have been going strong ever since. They have three Grammys from five nominations. Recommend their cover of Can You Feel The Love Tonight.

I knew you would like this I second what Melissa C said and PopSpring 2016 should be next 3 original songs Plus their Evolution of Michael Jackson Live ( the evo of MJ video is amazing but their live version is epic) For a softer touch Amazing Grace, Perfect and The Prayer show off their ranges and harmonies Originals Sing, Happy Now and Be My Eyes are fun For a pop of something different A mashup of BTS Butterx Dynamite or Can’t Hold Us and one of my top 10 favs is Come Along Waving hi to you and the ladies listening So much to learn and discover about this group Their talent is top notch but they are also top notch humans as well

Matt is the other black Guy. He does the bass. The low part. He and Kevin complement each other. They are responsible for making the instrument sounds

Kevin plays cello, electric cello, and sax, but I don’t think he’s ever played sax with PTX. Both Scott and Mitch play piano. Scott has played piano on PTX songs, while Mitch hasn’t, but he has played to accompany himself on his side projects. I’m not sure if Kirstin plays an instrument. Matt, the bass singer, plays drums, and has played in live PTX performances. Check out “Kevin’s Fifth” and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies reimagined” which are both live performances during PTX concerts by Kevin on cello and beatboxing and Matt on drums. “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies” was the second Grammy win for Pentatonix. Kevin samples the recording and expands on it for the arrangement. I’ve seen both of these live, and you would not believe how quickly we all jumped to our feet for a very long and very loud standing ovation! Another great reaction. Can you even stand how awesome the bass drop is, especially since it’s all acapella?

Kevin also plays piano. Mitch plays piano but doesn't like to where Scott at one time wanted to be a professional pianist. If you want to see how they record, watch their behind the scenes documentary, Making of Evergreen. It's so amazing to watch them in their creative space.

Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie knew each other in grade school, through choir and musical theater. The three of them formed an acapella group and wanted to perform on a show for acapella groups but needed two more people. Avi came on as bass, and Kevin as beatboxer. This was in 2011 and they won the program, the Sing Off. They have been performing together since. Avi left on good terms in 2017 I think, and Matt was hired to sing. They have an extensive catalog here on You Tube. They really are a like a big family, and their joy of singing shows. Keep going - they never disappoint.
