This beautiful song was their ‘lightbulb’ concert performance in 2019 ( where they gather round a lightbulb and sing without microphones.) During a performance in Jacksonville, Florida, they sang it louder and louder to drown out the sound of homophobic chanting just outside the venue. You can see Kirstie suddenly cottoning on to why Mitch and Scott were increasing the volume and her little smile when she realizes. They were so professional!

I think it was the Westboro Baptist Church with megaphines outside the venue. They are a rather strange cult that is specialized in harrassing gay people or something they think is gay. Like, when my country got a female president who was known for her pro-LGBT+ opinions, they burned our flag.

Avi and Kevin wrote this one. The first song I ever heard by PTX, and I was hooked for good! An a cappella group on a level unattained by any other group. PERIOD!
@charlottevan_8 Жыл бұрын
Apparently, Kevin had the original concept, which he brought to Avi, who then pretty much wrote the rest of the song, co-arranging it with Ben. He put his college minor of composition & arranging to great use in this song.

Ben Bram is their arrangement partner. This is an impactful song. If you want hear a powerful version try the Jacksonville concert. They usually do this song off mic at their concerts. At the Florida concert, the a##hole Evangelicals were protesting outside and Scott and Mitch belted this song over the hate

Worth noting, that Ben has been with them since the very beginning Sing-Off days. He is an integral part of the PTX sound, and it was Grammys for arranging that they won the first two times. Ben is their not-so--secret weapon. Also, good for the guys sharing their talent over the haters. Love will out. 💖

I'm so glad you finally did this one - it's one of my most favorite of everything they've done, for the purity of the vocals. When they hit that chord at the 3:16 mark ("free" crescendo), it gives me chills every single time. Their original music is definitely underplayed and underappreciated. And yes, please do react to some of Avi's solo music! His original A Quarter to Four was written as he was leaving PTX and going solo. Change on the Rise is a powerful anthem on overcoming the long depression he battled through - it will impact you in ways you may not anticipate.

I remember the first time I heard this song. I was being really bad and had gone to a fried chicken restaurant and was sitting in the parking lot eating my strips. I put this song on and I began crying while I listened. I had no idea why I got so emotional. I cried every time I heard it for the next 8-10 times. Maybe because it's just so beautiful? I still don't know why.

This song was supposedly inspired by My Heart With You, another 5-part harmony cover that they've used as their "mics off" finale during the Evergreen tour. If you listen to the two songs together, you can definitely hear the influences. There are several recordings of "My Heart" done live, including one from their Christmas Under the Stars concert from BYUtv.

I have loved Pentatonix since they were on the Sing Off!!! I so wish they would get radio play!! They're so good and so amazing!!! Makes me angry for them that they don't get played on the radio!!!
@PtxXtp Жыл бұрын
Their first original album self titled Pentatonix did really well as far as promo goes. It debuted at number one on the billboard 200 chart. At the time they’d only done 2 Christmas albums prior. An Ep and a full album. Their full album actually peaked at number 2 on the charts and ended up going double platinum. They added more songs to the Xmas album that year to make it a deluxe album and then after that a lot of people thought of them as a Christmas group. At first they used didn’t love it but as the years went on and they couldn’t avoid being put in that category, they decided to embrace it and really push the Christmas thing. As far as their label goes, you’re right they don’t promote their originals as much anymore after seeing how successful Ptx can be at Christmas. Rca used to care about Ptx but now it’s as if they can’t be bothered. They do it to a lot of artists. Believe it or not, there are some fans who only know their Christmas music. Unfortunately The lucky ones was also put out during quarantine when they couldn’t tour their new music. A world tour was how they followed the release of their first original album. They’re getting ready to start another world tour in March and apparently new originals are coming. Hopefully when they re-signed with Rca this last year they made some demands.

Ben Bram has been with PTX from the very beginning. He helped Scott put the band together and has been their co-producer and co-arranger since the start. He is pretty much the 6th member of the band. As for the whole original music vs covers - it's been a debate in the fanbase for a long time. Most fans like to blame the RCA (their record label) for it, but while they obviously could do more to promote their music etc. I think it's unfair to put all the blame om them. While their originals are very popular to the fans it's sadly just a fact that their covers have the broader appeal to the public, so they sell better. That being said, PTX has been writing since the very beginning and there has usually always been 1 or 2 originals on their albums. Obviously the self titled album and Lucky Ones are full of originals. (lucky ones was sadly in a very difficult spot as the release date was pushed because of covid - and because of covid they weren't able to promote it like usual, leading to it underperforming). Also they have been writing lots of new stuff in the last year - so a new originals album is most likely coming later this year. As for this song - it was heavily inspired by My Heart to You, which they finally covered on the Evergreen album.

@hawkeyescoffee6399 Жыл бұрын
Idk if anyone else pointed this out, but they learned to lip synch the chorus in reverse so that they could film the Ash flowing upwards. I can't even begin to figure out how they managed it because they look so much like they're singing it, especially Mitch. This is such a beautiful song of theirs and I fully agree, it could be a movie sound track. Maybe something, with a fantasy lean to it with dragons and the like. There are still some awesome originals you've yet to react to, but I think many of them don't have a video. I 100% agree that itxs a huge injustice to them that their originals don't get as much backing from their label (but then their music in general doesn't get the push it deserves from them). They have so much amazing music and Lucky Ones especially could have huge hits, people would never know they were a capella unless they were told (and maybe its better sometimes if they're not, y'know?) And yes, please react to Valentine, itxs so adorable & Mitch's voice is stunning in it. And the rest of Sup3rfruit...and Avi. So much awesome music, so little, time 😃.

Avi and Kevin wrote this. Ben Bram is a grammy winning arranger. He arranged many songs for PTX. Many years ago, Ave had an idea to be the founder of an A Capella choir for young people. He approached Ben Bram and Rob Deitz about the idea and they were anxious to help in that endeavor. This resulted in A Capella Academy. They give tryouts online for young people from all over the world who want to be privileged enough to be accepted. Below you will find the Academy Choir singing an Avi original. So often, if you are deeply moved, Avi might have had a hand in writing a song. He is a Word Smith and his music is stunning. If you'd like to check out another masterpiece album, I recommend Avi's 11-song, all-original album "Floating on a Dream", released in May 2022, produced by Grammy winner Shooter Jennings. A few reactors who've heard all of it have indeed called it a masterpiece. The songs range over different genres and styles. Some of the most popular are "I'm Only Getting Started", "First Place I Go" and "All Is Well". A few months ago, Avi did a 4-song live session with Jennings at Sunset Sound in LA, my favorite one being "When I'm a Fool", which rocks out with the studio musicians. They are ALL Music.....they do individual stuff, as well as together. Their "pact" is do anything individually, but PTX is first priority. So, to do original stuff is in the middle of all their lives. Even though, they are such a core group. One of them brings a verse, a chorus, and together....they build a song around it. They are AMAZING individuals who support each other as PTX, as well as support each other individually.

It makes sense that the holiday stuff has a wider audience than their original stuff (which is stupid amazing, like this song) or even their pop covers. A lot of the Christmas songs have a long choral history, which means that people who might otherwise be averse to the a cappella performances, don't see the lack of instrumentation as a negative.

About the visuals, did you notice how the petals were going up during the chorus? I learned from various other comments how PTX learned how the open their mouths in reverse during shooting. Also, with regards the Evergreen Experience, I posted this on a slightly older vid, but thought I'd add it here too, in case you were more likely to see it: When you say that you are looking to react to the Evergreen experience, are you meaning the Making of Evergreen video or the tour vlog/vids? The former is one video on the PTX channel, I think about 20 mins long, where the latter is on the tour and for that I suggest maybe checking on the Hausdo channel (which is Kirstie's partner, who is also their videographer) he has a very long video, like an hour long, for the Evergreen Christmas Tour, but I don't remember if that's just the backstage stuff, or if it also has some/all the performances too (it's been a while since I saw it). Or if it doesn't have them & you're just looking for the actual live performances, it might be trickier to find but I'm sure there will be someone who has the whole concert broken up in pieces & posted in order. Incidentally, as an aside, Hausdo also has a couple silly parody vids he and Kirstie filmed during Quarantine, like Good Morning, Quarantine, and Hello. Lol.

I have never understood why PTXs music has not been more widely distributed. True, their Christmas music is fairly well known, but not the rest of it. Surely it’s the job of the record label to promote the music and bring it to the attention of the wider public. PTX certainly does their part with sold-out concerts and lots of interviews. It’s almost as though they’ve always succeeded in spite of, not because of, the support of their label.

This is my favorite song of theirs. As many others have stated, they once sang this over the sound of homophobic protesters at one of their concerts. Another interesting thing about this song is how they did the music video. I haven't seen this officially confirmed anywhere but rumor has it that to get that effect of the snow floating upwards, they filmed the chorus backwards and learned to lip sync the lyrics backwards and then they reversed the footage.

Grammar Police here... Sorry to rain on your great reaction, but this is a pet peeve of mine, and I just HAVE to make the point. It is incorrect to write "should of." The correct expression is "should have." I realize it sounds like "should of" when people are talking, but they are saying either "should have" or "should've" (the contracted form of "should have"). "Should of" doesn't mean anything. Neither do "could of" or "would of." We use "should have/could have/would have" plus the past participle of a verb to express regret for something in the past, like should have been, should have seen, should have gone, and on a completely different grammatical tangent, never, never, NEVER... should have went! 😉 Thanks for tolerating my rant.
