Mitch is the countertenor with the mustache. He is also my favorite. Scott is the tall guy with beard and was singing in Italian. Kirstie is the female with the beautiful voice. The 3 have been friends for over 20 years and yes, God meant for them to be together and make incredible music for us. Thanks for a wonderful reaction! Now that it’s December, you have to do their Christmas music….Mary Did You Know? Twelve Days of Christmas like you’ve never heard. 💕 Kevin is the beatboxer and Matt is the bass.

I have loved them since I saw them in their first competition. My daughter is an amazing singer and musician with pitch perfect hearing. She is terrible to watch one of these shows with because if I like someone she tells me what needs fixing. This was the first time we both loved the same group. I must have good taste occasionally. Thank you.

We call your reaction to Mitch's beautiful high voice being "Mitch-slapped." Don't worry about it; it's happened to most of us more than once as well. Mitch has a range of just over six octaves. We become so accustomed to hearing him taking the high part that we're sometimes Mitch-slapped when he sings in his lower register, but a range of over 6 octaves means he *has* to have a lower register as well. Scott (tall blonde with a beard, singing in Italian) is a lyric baritone; his lower register extends downward into the bass and his upper register is in the tenor range. In live performances, when the bass has a solo Scott sings the bass part in the underlying harmonies; I believe that for official recordings, however, their bass, Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable), will sing both his solo and the harmony and they'll layer it in. Matt is currently the youngest member of Pentatonix, but he's been a member since 2017. He was already an incredible lyric bass, with his range extending well into the baritone in his upper register; it now extends into the tenor range. And in a live concert earlier this year I would swear that his lowest note was true basso profundo, the kind of low bass note that can blow out speakers in live performances (at least, if the speakers aren't specifically designed to withstand those notes). Kirstin (also known as Kirstie - rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado is officially a mezzo soprano, but *her* range extends from alto through soprano, and I believe up into the coloratura soprano range. Kirstin can sing as high as Mitch, possibly higher. She also had her first child earlier this year - Elliana Violet (Evie for short) was born on the 28th of June, 2022. Mother and daughter are both doing well. Kirstin, Mitch, and Scott are childhood friends, and are known as "the trio" because in high school they formed a trio (named "The Trio" - they've gotten better with names since) that would sometimes perform at school concerts and on local television shows. The trio is at the core of Pentatonix; Pentatonix was their idea in the first place. The beatboxer is Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loo"-shoh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable). Kevin is a genius. He's a graduate of Yale pre-med; he speaks five languages, including Mandarin; and he plays both cello and saxophone. He is one of the best beatboxers on the planet, possibly *the* best, and on top of that he has a lovely tenor voice which we don't hear often enough. Kevin beatboxes *while playing the cello!* He developed the technique himself and calls it celloboxing. It was his celloboxing KZbin videos that led the trio to him, back in 2011 when they were looking for a bass and a beatboxer to round out the band.

You would appreciate "The Recording of Evergreen", the album that came out last year. You see the hard work that goes into the phrasing and layering of the smallest things. "Prayers for the World" is new, from this year's Christmas album, as is "Kid on Christmas". Eight (!) albums of Christmas Pentatonix magic. Let's see how many you can get through before Christmas . . . starting NOW!

I have often been lost for words, when trying to describe Pentatonix's unique vocals & sound, & I still cannot express, or even come to terms, with what my ears are hearing, most times, but one thing I do know, is that, when I hear their voices, it always takes me to a place, that touches my heart, & can make me feel things, I didn't even know existed!!! To me, that is their gift, & what makes them, not only an amazing group, but incredible artists 💝 **THEY TRULY ARE A RARE GIFT** 💝 And Mitch, the rare counter tenor, I have come to believe, that he is an alien, from the plant of *WTF* 😆🤣😆

New subscriber, here for all the PTX you care to feature. Can you imagine the glee of the choir teacher who had all three of these main singers in her class at the same time? Scott, Mitch and Kirstie have been singing together since high school, so 15 years or so by this point. You may want to react to Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies, for which they won their second Grammy. Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King is another of their anthems, Come Along and Making Christmas are pure fun, and Daft Punk and Bohemian Rhapsody will give you an idea of how they can change gears and perform pretty much anything. Attention has been a favorite of mine lately, but any title you choose will be good. Well done, peace from Ohio …

Did you know the very first Mitch Slap was his father, Mike? Mitch was about 2 1/5 years old and his Dad heard music from his bedroom and thought it was a toy. He was teased because of his higher voice throughout school. Scott and Mitch met when they were 10 years old doing "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" through Community Arts Theater. Mitch met Kirstin around age 8 but little interactions. They grew up together and became the Trio in High School doing performances. Scott went to USC and met Ben Brum (unofficial 6th member and does a lot of their arrangements) who convinced Scott to enter the NBC "SING-OFF" contest. Scott grabbed his two best friends and headed off to Hollywood. Ben knew Avi as described as a friend of a friend. Scott found Kevin through KZbin video and their first meeting was 24 hours before their first performance on the show. All have their own talent and hard work for Pentatonix. Kirstin did "Kinky Boots" on Broadway and you can tell her confidence grew. Kevin (Beatboxer) is a Beast on his own, had graduated from Yale University pre-med when Scott snatched him up. Kevin played the saxophone at Carnegie Hall when he was 17 and plays the Cello while Beatboxing. He is also fluent in many languages including Mandarin. He also does a podcast with his brother. They have Amazing talent and still you can see the hard work they are dedicated to PTX. Scott did a 6 week Intensive study of Italian for this song.

The chances of this group coming together was so infinitesimally small that only the powers that be in the universe could have made it happen. I’m glad they decided to do that to allow us mere mortals to have something to brighten our days. Three kids meet as children who love to sing and decide to keep singing together in school and local theater. As a side note, can you imagine trying to keep those three reigned in in high school choir? Scott, Mitch and Kirstie say that she did help them learn to blend better. They become life-long friends. Scott befriends Ben Bram who helps Scott get on The Sing Off. Ben introduces Scott to Avi. Scott talks Kevin into giving up med school at Yale and joining four strangers to compete on The Sing Off. They actually win the show. Sony drops them so they decide to start building their Pentaholic following on You Tube. Viral videos, and great music follows, and they get resigned to Sony. Avi decides to leave the group and they find another great bass in Matt. While Matt is not Avi, he is still excellent and I think he blends even better with the other members of PTX. If anything happens differently along that path Pentatonix does not exist, and the world is a lesser place.

I really like your comment about them being created to sing together. I agree! It seems impossible that three of them were the same age, living in the same town, going to the same school, unless there was some sort of cosmic intervention, and the timing and the way they found Kevin and Avi, and later Matt - it was all perfection. Great reaction to a masterpiece of a cover.

Mitch and Scott did a medley from Empire, a TV series about the music business. It 's found on their Superfruit channel. Most of the content is mostly just comical, however their Empire Medley is phenomenal. All in one take, with just piano. They also do Hip Hop Goes Broadway 1 and 2. Be sure to stay all the way through to the end of any of their videos. They always show the bloopers - but no bloopers on Empire. It is flawless, ESPECIALLY THE LAST SONG.
