You need to watch their live performance of their Popspring Concert. It has three original songs and their Evolution of Michael Jackson. They have been together for ten years with only one band member change. Matt (the bass singer in the white jacket) replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017.Avi left on good terms for personal family reasons. The three in the middle ( Kirstie, Scott and Mitch) grew up together in Texas. Kevin. ( beat boxer) joined them when they entered The Sing Off (which they won), and has been wither ever since. They are all individually amazing singers and musicians. Pick any of their covers or originals. You won’t be disappointed. Great reaction.

Subscribed. They are known for their full sounding “wall of sound “. They do this live. Check out their Imagine or Mad World for more wall of sound. Check out their live version of Hallelujah from their Christmas Special. It’s as good as the official video. I believe there are no added voices to this video, but they do sometimes add layers in the studio. However, they can do all of their songs live. They occasionally use instruments, but they are always shown in the videos when they do. Almost forgot. You must react to their Bohemian Rhapsody.

I have never gotten bored with PTX. They know how to make a song interesting. They have live performances that you can watch and see that they sound pretty much the same. So there is a episode of a British show called Sunday Brunch in 2015 where they performed live their original “Can’t Sleep Love”, a cover of “Cheerleader”. And showed off their lack of cooking skills.

They do layer vocals for studio recording, and more now than back then (some of their most recent songs they use a backing track of layered vocals even when live)... but there're also a ton of live performances without embellishment available. Including mic-less performances if you want to go that far. Everyone is mentioning the Popspring performance - which is a great set to react to if you're okay with 15 minutes of content (3 original songs and one of their Evolutions) because it was professionally recorded by MTV. The Evolutions, themselves, are also good videos for reactors - it's them sitting and singing live one takes. They have The Evolution of Music, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Rihanna and Ariana Grande. Their cover of Kiiara's Gold is also a stunning live recording of them singing sitting in a studio. For songs that aren't live, rockers usually like their covers of Bohemian Rhapsody and Imagine. From there it's hard to say which way you'd like to go, they do a lot of pop, dance, EDM and edge a bit into R&B... have theatrical/misical stuff, some belters, a bit of country... a bit of everything, really. You called it on the diversity... PTX is diverse in just about every possible way, from the obvious to their styles and musical taste. They credit their diversity with a lot of their success, in that they all bring something different to the table, respect each other and find a way to encompass and blend it all into one sound. The video for Imagine focuses a lot on the group's diversity.

You should do the live recording of Hallelujah because it is every bit as good as their video version, which incidentally has had over 600 million views. It's from their Christmas show. However, you can't go wrong with any of their songs because we've yet to hear a reactor who can fault one. They may have their favourites but they are just so good with everything, and usually, the favourite is the one you happen to be listening to at the time. You've got so much to choose from you'll be spoilt for choice.

Acapella has come a long way. Here are the big three groups you should check out - Pentatonix (tends to be more pop), Home Free (tends to be more pop with a bit of country), and my personal favorite, Voiceplay (theatrical, tends to do Disney, Video games, they do awesome costume and characters). All three groups are incredibly skilled and creative. And they each work in different genres (i.e. Pentatonix might do holiday music or rock, Home Free Rock, funny mashups, Voiceplay could do rock, pop, broadway, cool Halloween music, etc). They all have dozens and dozens of videos and all sound fantastic in their live videos. But yeah, check them all out, mix and match. Don't sleep on their solo stuff either Geoff Castellucci in particular does wonderful solo work. This is a rabbit hole that you can really go down and love every minute of. And I know you know good music and would really appreciate it. Since I am a big Voiceplay fan, I would suggest: The Dragonborne Comes, Hoist the Colors, and Wicked Medley Songs. Oogie Boogie song is cool, Geoff Castellucci's Monster Mash, Sixteen Tons, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Seriously though, you can't go wrong with any videos from any of these great bands.
@jayrtee

Thanks for the reaction! You've stumbled on a rabbit hole here. As one poster on another channel said, the original version is a warning of what's coming, the Disturbed version is angry we didn't listen, and this version is showing there's still hope we can get it right. Their version of Amazing Grace is still my favorite.

I would suggest you give their cover of Imagine (John Lennon) a go next.... it has all 5 members singing solo and will tell you exactly how diverse they are and how they use their diversity to complete their sound. And for a live performance, you can't beat any one of the four songs they do at the Popspring Concert, three of which are original songs and the other is one of their "evolutions of..." performances which are a whole new rabbit hole to explore.

The reason you think it sounds like there are other singers added is because they are in an empty steel building, which give the acoustics the sound of others singing. The wood floor & steel walls is giving Kevin the ability when he stomps his foot, to make it sound like real drums, but he also does a real good job of his instrument sounds without this building.

Pentatonix won a TV a capella competition about 10 years ago, then spent years building a KZbin audience. To many, they are best known for their seven Christmas / seasonal albums, but they also have several albums with covers of pop music from various decades and styles, from 40's swing to Motown to K-pop and two albums of original songs. In many videos they are lip-synching to a studio recording, but if you see microphones in the video they are usually recording live. There are also live videos of their concerts, but the sound is often not good enough to appreciate what they are doing. When you are just getting started with them, I think it's best to look at their catalog and pick something that looks interesting to you , but I am sure you will get many suggestions.

Pentatonix is the premier acapella group in the world. They are the only acapella group to win a Grammy award, and they have won three of them. Since you are a rock fan, you should see their covers of the Daft Punk Medley (first Grammy winner) and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody; I'm sure you will enjoy them. They have also done covers of the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis songs "Can't Hold Us" and "Thrift Shop." It always amazes me that their songs sound like they have musical instruments playing, when it's actually their voices. Just mind blowing. I highly recommend Home Free's Ring of Fire cover. It has Avi, PTX's original bass singer, guesting on it (Home Free is amazing too). But honestly, my favorite PTX song is Can't Sleep Love (an original song) live at Popspring 2015. Mitch really shines on that one. That video has 4 songs (3 originals, one not - the evolution of Michael Jackson) that let Scott (singing Cracked, a really great song) and Kirstie (doing the original Water, which is soooo cool) have their moment in the spotlight. Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole. It's an amazing ride!

PTX will layer sound and use reverb, echo, and certain other basic production techniques and effects on their recordings, but they don’t record anything they can’t reproduce live. As far as sounding like there is more of them, yes there is layering in the studio, but the three in the middle (from L-R Kirstin Maldonado, Scott Hoying, and Mitch Grassi) grew up together performing in musical theater and show choir. There is something that happens when their voices come together. They’re all strong singers and somehow, their three voices create an incredible wall of sound, which is also unique to them and is kind of a signature. Add in their bass, Matt Sallee (and previously Avi Kaplan 2011-16), to fill out the bottom end (FYI, Scott is a baritone who can cover bass while the bass is singing lead), and their incredibly multi-talented beatboxer, Kevin Olusula (he sings sometimes as well, and plays cello while beatboxing on a few songs), and you don’t need more people. Watch the live version of Hallelujah from their Christmas special. This will include their original bass, Avi, and give you an idea of how they reproduce a song with such a huge sound live.

Compare their live version of 'Hallelujah' to their official video. The live version is arguably even better.

There are a ton of live videos of Pentatonix, but to me the most impressive, is the one where they performed Daft Punk backstage, no microphones or anything, and somebody recorded it with a phone. And yes, if you like PTX, you need to check out VoicePlay as well. And if you like metal, you *urgently* need to check out Bloodywood.

Lots of live recording on KZbin. Watch Bohemian Rhapsody and Daft Punk, Hallelujah, and Dance of the Sugar Plum Faries, which is an instrumental song, meaning a singing group sang an instrumental, and won a Grammy aAward for doing it. Hallelujah has had something like 600 MILLION views on KZbin. My Particular favorite is "Can you feel the love tonight". If you close your eyes as you listen to it, you will swear there is an small orchestra behind them. For fun, watch the 12 days of Christmas. By the way, they refuse to record anything unless they can do it live.

I recommend Imagine, since you commented a couple times about their diversity. but really, pick anything you can't go wrong. If you want live, I think all their "evolutions of" are live or the Pop Spring concert. I don't know if they use layering in the studio, but I can say, I have seen them live a couple of times, and they sound just as amazing and nothing sounds like its missing.

To see their full range of talents check out the "Daft Punk" video as they made the video themselves when the video company pulled out at the last moment, Kevin & Avi (?) filmed it in a closet and edited it in the kitchen for US$400 and won a Grammy for it.

If you want variety ... you've come to the right people! The following will give you a feel for some of what they can do: - Daft Punk Medley - Mary, Did You Know? - Bohemian Rhapsody - Say Something - Amazing Grace - 90s Dance Medley - Thank You [an original, done in memory of everything everyone went through during the Pandemic] - Evolution Of Michael Jackson [a one-take performance!] - Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy That last one is a tour-de-force, as what you'll be listening to is a completely instrumental piece, performed by an a capella group completely without instruments!🤯 Oh, and if the pathos in a song can really 'hit you' ... have tissues handy for _"Say Something"_ and for _"Thank You"_ - they might be necessary! *Enjoy!* P.S. - if you don't see an instrument, they didn't use one! It'll always be right out there. Post-P.S. - hope you don't mind me saying that your intro and outro pieces remind me of Evanescence ... please take that as a compliment!

Please check out the original song by Simon and Garfunkle. Still the best one for me. I grew up listening to amazing g talent of 60s and 70s. But Pentatonix is amazing. Same with Home Free and Voice play.. all acapella

Yes, I agree with you I believe in the videos they do some post production work and add additional layers of their own voices but I also understand from people who have seen them in concert that they still sound absolutely fantastic even without those additional layers. I also believe again in the videos that they add some enhancements to Kevin's beat boxing. Not like they use a synthesizer or anything but I think they boost his sounds and perhaps add some echo where appropriate.

They have three Grammy's, and are nominated for a forth (as of now, months after you made this video). Their videos are amazing, but they are so much better live. The Grammy's won were 'Daft Punk', 'Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy' (so unique, unlike any version out there), and 'Jolene' with Dolly Parton. Also look up their version of 'Hallelujah' and Aha live in Singapore. Be prepared to get Mitch-slapped; the one with the mullet. He is phenomenal. *end fan-girl rant*

They do "voice stacking" in the studio for video's to give the full sound. They sound great in concert but the stacking doesn't exist there. It is always their voices, not anyone else added.
Final muy increíble 😱
