South Downs wins the best of in my opinion, which is just one opinion. Outside of landscapes, an image of Ruth should be included and can take top honors of best image. Great series, fun times, and now the thinking for the 2026 calendar should begin.

Excellent episode as always! I should have waited a bit longer to watch this one, brought back the holiday blues, haha! Just came back from my first trip to the UK and EU and holy heck do I ever miss it. Ya'll hiring? Just kidding... kinda.. haha! Anyway, great stuff as always, really liked the film development segment, seems simple enough, and I've really wanted to get into developing as it clearly reduces the costs of shooting film drastically. Looking forward to the next one! Thanks!

A great episode, Xiana is amazing, a natural host. Hope she loved it too. Interesting about developing too, one day, when time allows, I will try. I think it will go full circle, as everything digital soon goes out of date. Something physical stands the test of time much better. Quality of images that my gt grandparents had is superb and I've still got them today, 100+ years on. When you were at broadsands for the calendar shot, its about 5 miles from me 😃

I bought my Pentax 17 from B&H, ordering it the first day or so it was available for sale there--It was already backordered, but I got mine a couple weeks later. I haven't looked since then, but I'm not really surprised if it's hard to find. I'm loving mine. And I'm still kind of surprised at the complaints about its price. Back in the mid-80s through the early 90s, you would typically pay $125-$150 for a nice point and shoot. Converted to today's dollars, that's about the same as the Pentax 17. My coveted Minolta XD-11, back at the end of the 70s, cost double. The fact I get 48-72 photos per roll gives a bit more freedom, plus the vertical aspect ratio, combined with that, encourages shooting diptychs and triptychs--more creative thinking.

@richardwest217. I'm in total agreement with you mate. Suspect it might be an age thing... It's interesting that Pentax would develop a new film camera (unintentional pun), but why anybody would go out and pay £500 for it when the 2nd hand market is awash with quality SLRs for far less is beyond me. My youngest daughter recently expressed an interest in film photography, so I gave her my old ME Super. She was made up and it still works perfectly...
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline Ай бұрын
The Pentax is expensive compared to older (more capable) cameras, but it’s important the new cameras are still made because older ones will eventually break. It’s not cheap to bring a new camera to the market, so the price has to be profitable for Pentax. It seems to be a great success so far, so hopefully this will encourage them to continue their film camera project.
@richardwest217
@richardwest217 Ай бұрын
Whilst I applaud Pentax for a new film camera, as I already have 12+ working Pentax film cameras that cost me less than the price of the new 17 in total, I don't think I'll be buying one. Plus, I'm no fan of portrait format except for portraits. I know Gen Z or whatever they call them, don't know how to turn their 'phones around to landscape, but I don't like wasting two thirds of my screen looking at massive black bars around a picture, (or video).
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline Ай бұрын
We hear you Richard. It's a great camera though, and hopefully the start of a new line of film cameras. If no one makes new cameras, then they'll slowly dissappear, so it's great news that someone is trying.
@edwardwalker3229
@edwardwalker3229 Ай бұрын
Why on earth does anyone want to go backwards. Film costs money to buy and more money to develop and then more money to print. £500 for a camera and then spending on every film you put through it??????? The phone in your pocket and a second hand digital camera will cost less than that to buy and all the photos are cost free unless you chose to print any which you can do at home The phone is the new box brownie. Developing your own film is yet another unecessary cost plus the chemicals smell. They are highly toxic to small children and animals in the home and they stain most things they touch. Come on let's leave that process where it belongs back in the past.
