In this video Im briefly explaining pentose phosphate pathway which is also referred as hexose monophosphate shunt. In pentose phosphate pathway there are two phases. Oxidative phase and the non oxidative phase of pentose phosphate pathway. Both oxidative phase and non oxidative phase of pentose phosphate pathway are explained in brief. importance of both the phases are explained. Different cellular scenarios are considered to explain the direction of pentose phosphate pathway.

I have to say that your students are so lucky to have you as bichemistry teacher My teacher use 6 month to explain this pathway , no body understood it You explained this pathway in only 15 minutt , and boooom we get it Either we are dumb students or or teacher is dumb We love you dr mungli all way from iraq

HMP shunt is alternative fate of glucose 6 phosphate.

very good explanation...but there is a confusion in conversion of ribose-5-phosphate to fructose 6 phosphate and glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate

Thank you. Conversion of ribose 5 phosphate to fru-6-p and gly-3-p is thorugh reversible pathway mediated by transaldolase and transketolase. I explained it in brief without going into too much details.

sir in the book there is written no ATP are utilized or generated in hmp pathway but glucose 6 phosphate is formed from glucose where one molecule of ATP is utilized , please give me answer I'm CONFUSED.

That is true but glucose 6-phosphate is not exclusively made to get into HMP pathway but some of it will be diverted into HMP pathway from glycolysis specially when PFK- is saturated. This is why generally in the books authors do not mention about ATP generation in HMP pathway.

Please dr , can you help me her with a question A nondividing adipose cell requires large amount of NADPH for fatty acid synthesis but very littel ribose5p. However , the oxidative section produces equal amounts of two products. Explain how the nonoxidative reactions deal with his problem? Help me her please!

good question, the ribose5P produced is converted to fru6P and will get converted to glu6p and renters into the HMP shunt first reaction catalyzed by G6PDH.
