My son was diagnosed with galactosemia in new born baby screeing test...can you please tell me what all are the symptoms of galactosemia in infants and once they complete 6 months what all to give and what all to avoid other than milk products
@DrMungli4 жыл бұрын
You need to get it confirmed whether galactosemia is due to galactokinase deficiency or GALT enzyme deficiency. in either case avoiding milk and milk product will greatly help to reduce symptoms and signs.

Do you have any explanations about the Galactosemia type III which is the GALE deficiency?
@DrMungli8 жыл бұрын
The galactose 4-epimerase (GALE) deficiency is similar to GALT enzyme deficiency. GALE deficiency leads to decreased availability of UDP-glucose which will affect the functioning of GALT leading to trapping of Pi as galactose-1-phosphate similar to GALT deficiency. The signs and symptoms of galactosemia type III vary from mild to severe and can include cataracts, delayed growth and development, intellectual disability, liver disease, and kidney problems. GALE deficiency specially in lactating mammary glands could lead to decreased lactation due to decreased availability of UDP-galactose from UDP-glucose to male lactose from lactose synthase.
