I feel awful for the paint guy! It's not often that you get an employee that has such an intense passion about his job... hell, his craft, even. The fact that he designed a presentation for the marketing department shows a great deal of initiative and drive, too. SW really screwed the pooch by letting that fella go. If he really did get hired by a huge paint company after the fact, then it's well deserved. I truly wish him the best on his future pursuits. Hell, he's the type of person that might come up with something mind-blowing in the world of paint (a world I am completely ignorant about). Having said, I can relate to him as an IT, web, and multimedia developer... I do my office hours like everyone else at my agency, but the first thing I do after work and in the morning on weekends it boot up my computer to experiment and grow in my career. When you love what you do for a living, it's no longer a "job."

Yeah unfortunately you are correct. It sucks, it was just in good fun, but there's always gonna be someone who comes in and makes it ugly. I work in radio and in both our promotions and our ads we have to be super careful and crystal clear about EVERYTHING, cover every base and every scenario, because people can and will find a way to make it a thing. That saying "great day at the movies" and getting a free pass thing was a good example - did the company authorise them giving away passes for that? Is this something they're given the jurisdiction to do themselves? Chances are no, and you just know the first person who tries it and doesn't get a GC will raise a huge fuss and it'll be a liability. So I'm on this dude's side because it was undoubtedly good marketing (based on the video and the comments here) and he was having fun at work, but also on the company's side because false advertising sucks for everybody. If they'd taken him aside and talked with him about coming up with marketing ideas and working with them on future promotions though, that would have been rad.

I work for a different retailer, and we're issued storage lockers; technically we're not even supposed to have our phones on our person while we're working. Everyone does, in case of emergencies, and as long as we don't use them 'on the floor' during business hours (or when we're busy during night shift) the managers don't make an issue of it. This guy could have had previous warnings about non-essential phone usage, or other rule infractions. A lot of people can't help checking statuses or texting between work breaks, but corporate figured this video made Target look like their employees are allowed to goof off and won't provide excellent customer service. :)

With a lot of these places they already have rules in place that'll get you in trouble for so much posting a picture of you saying hi. I'm the type who'll read an employee handbook front to back, I don't know why but I do. From that I've learned being caught using a cell phone on the clock can get you in trouble, posting on social media while in your uniform can get you in trouble, having a social media account that can be traced to your job of anything bad happens can get you fired, if reporters or anyone asking for an interview you cannot or shouldn't speak with them but instead direct them to hr otherwise you can get fired. But know when a "disciplinarian" act was done in retaliation. That's when you have your evidence, call hr and lawyer up. Read your handbooks and OSHA packets!

I love it when people say "they were providing free advertisement". This really proves how people have no idea companies work and why they follow strict guidelines. Every company have a advertisement team that know what their doing because it's their job. These people may seem like they're doing the right thing but you can not advertise a company without approval because there are many risk such as misinformation and misunderstanding. Even when you first get hired and handed a employee workbook in that workbook there is a section that specifically state you can not advertise on the company behalf and these people got fired because they broke that agreement. Every company has a calculated and efficient way of advertising their products so one employee making videos doesn't mean shit.

Sucks he got fired but there is a contract when you get hired and a general rule of filming which isn't taken seriously but is a rule and grounds for being fired. So it dont matter. Also something people don't know is even taking pics or filming the outside of the theater is illegal as well... so if they wanted to fire him they can. End of story

Paint guy is the paint KING! I was not fired but I was discouraged for trying to implement changes at the newspaper I worked at. Cause I knew it was failing. When I got sick, fired me for being gone 3months and still not able to work, and took my idea! So, that is the way it goes

You say that but you could say that about anything if you get fired because they cover literally everything in their 70 page 8 font company policy booklets. Maybe in your big girl/ boy job but not for a place that pays 12 dollars

@@storyjunkie35 They give you the whole talk during orientation. It's not just a "big boy" job. It's simple and easy to just not do it and just ask because it's safer to get the get go than just doing it. May take a while but it's sager than getting fired for being dumb

Honestly it has a lot to do with what management decides is or isn't in violation with the policy. You can do everything right, but if they don't like it then it's a problem

--TikTok Movie Theatre Guy: Shouldn't have been fired but I'm sure he knew that tik tok was risky lol. Major L for AMC. --TikTok Paint mixer Tonesterpaints: I actually worked as a paint mixer at Home Depot for 2 years. Filming/being on your phone while working is bad, but once I saw he switched to doing it at home it seemed like a problem solved! Firing him afterwards doesn't make sense to me. Sherwin Williams paint is overpriced AF btw & not worth double the price for the same quality of paint as other brands. --TikTok Guy who Scared Boss: He's just playing around & I doubt he really cares if he loses his job so I don't either. --TikTok Target Employee: Phone while working again. Makes Target look bad. Makes total sense why he got fired. --TikTok Woman who Jumped on the desk: Getting written up is fair. If you gonna risk your job at least actually be funny. --TikTok Claw Machine Girl: F'd around and found out

If it actually works you can literally be arrested for stealing. She most definitely should have been fired because not only is she losing her business money (which affects the employee's hours more than employers) she is also setting millions of kids up for being arrested. There's no way a place like that wouldn't immediately stop you and keep you there until the police arrived. Yeah most likely for a first time around and for kids you'll be left off with a warning but afterwards.. 😬 Not to mention how embarrassing is it to have that on your record? Petty theft.
