At most they said a small section of one of Mullet's panels might be incorporated, which is a pointless gesture. Essentially this a brand new ground up promod build that will have a shell resembling Mullet. Clearly not a "rebuild".

I don't think people realize what the SMX did to that chassis. Metal fatigue is a real issue. Regardless of what engine combo that chassis put in the work. I think for me, Leeroy is still Leeroy, it's just evolved. Mullet2.0 doesn't seem like it'll retain much of Mullet. Then it's the cost, so a lot of money and work went into building Mullet and it hurts a bit to see that turned into scrap. So whether it's worth destroying Mullet vs getting a new El Camino and keeping Mullet as a show car people could maybe see if they visit the McFarland racing museum at the Freedom Factory. I guess it's a bit like people who buy a VIN from a wrecked classic car, build a new one and claim it's 'original'.

I think a lot of people also probably don't follow some of these builds as closely as some other people have. People probably forgot Mullet originally wasn't even supposed to be a drag and drive car at all. It was supposed to be a jet dragster, that you all ended up converting back into a race car. If people watched CJ's channel, they also sort of discussed in detail why Mullet needed to get cut up. Largely it's to shed all the unnecessary weight. Cameron was saying they could shave off close to 500lbs! Which is like half a second in ET. Which is huge when you're talking the classes it's raced in. I'm glad Mullet is still around and it's got a ton of channel history.

This actually does clear it up for me. I had a honest question for CJRC that was basically "Why cut rather than just get a donor car for pieces you need", and really it comes down to not wanting to sell it as a roller. I had not thought about this so makes way more sense. Whatever pieces of og Mullet should get the VIN plate, and maybe some signatures inside clear coated over it :)

Yeah, it wasn't clear to me in Cameron's video what the goal of cutting it in half was. I guess my primed expectations from earlier videos was that they would be keeping the outside skin, and doing an entire tube chassis with cage, firewall etc. from scratch to simplify and cut weight. So if they're not keeping the rear half, and they don't need the front half. Why do they need to be cut apart? Now I'm getting the impression that the front half is actually going to be trimmed out even more and used in the new mullet (maybe just the doorframe/firewall where the VINs are) and the back half is being turned to some other purpose, so separating them like this is just the quickest way to give the parts to the people who are going to work on them..

Good grief guys, put your pearls down and chill out 😂 Mullet was done, bent, beat up and too slow, so it’s time for it to be upgraded. The chassis can’t take the required power or the big wheels and the body is rusting, leaving any of that would compromise the final result. Mullet 2.0 will be cool, we’ll get another build series from CJ and all the fun and games surrounding a new build 😁 Oh and for saying America is supposed to be the land of the free, there’s a lot of people trying to tell a dude what to do with his own car 😂

Not my money, not my car, but it does make me sad to see Mullet cut up. I wish you could have know ahead of time that he wasn’t salvageable, so you could have set him aside, and maybe one day put him in the “Cleetus McFarland Museum” on the Freedom Factory grounds.
