Yay for Final Fantasy 8. 5:50 is exactly why I´m hooked on this story. It took me about 30 years to embrace that part of life. Just like Final Fantasy 2 the flaws this game has don´t bother me much. There are probably better judges out here.

Yay for FF8! 8 was actually my first Final Fantasy and I loved the game so much. 9 was my second one and then 7 was my third. Even tho 8 was my first and I still love it to this day but 7 is my favorite.

I love this Final Fantasy, 8 is my second favorite FF! Only surpassed by 4 Imo. Everything about it is soo good, the soundtrack, the gameplay, etc. I've gotten 100% in it too, I even went and got all the achievements in it on the Xbox One version after I Platinumed it on PS4. I can really relate to Squall too, and omg I love Blue Magic! I have a Blue Mage on my team in every FF game I play that has the option. Also Triple Triad is best mini game ever! I could probably talk your ears off about 4 and 8 for hours but I'll hush now. XD

One thing I used to love to do in the PS1 version was not upgrade Squalls weapon until Lionheart that way when you do your limit break you had a 50% chance to do Lionheart after Renzokuken it made the game a blast to play They took it out of the Remaster tho 😢

I also defended ff8 at spoony's video back then, or just the combat system, which I consider to be excellent and far ahead of its time. especially today rpgs and jrpgs are criticized for taking too long and you absolutely don't want to have to grind anymore. FF8 has absolutely no grind. There is now the opinion that the combat system is broken in FF8. But that is absolutely not the case. It's so good you think it must be broken. It is for beginners and people who hate the classic rpg system with leveling up and for veterans who want something new and want to let off steam and do crazy and blatant things with their knowledge. No JRGP or RPG comes close to FF8. There are also many options. The fact that you can make the game more difficult for yourself by getting squall to lvl 100 right from the start is just awesome. Just right for a second run. There was nothing like that at the time and FF8 already had everything that is normal today and as popular as challenge runs. The problem was probably that hardly anyone understood the system and labeled it as bad. you knew MP and the typical level up. If you don't have a chance, you just level up until you're stronger and you defeat the opponent/boss. With FF8 you just have to experiment. Use other tactics. As you level up, it just gets harder instead of easier. Most people have not understood this to this day and do not want to understand it. If you consider what brilliant graphics the game offered and the unique setting and soundtrack and all this under 1 year development time, is just breathtaking and probably no other game offered. Things like FF7 or FF9 have been in development for a lot longer. What many also don't know is that FF9 was developed before ff8. The game is a masterpiece and in many ways ahead of its time and a benchmark. Especially under the circumstances.

If you want to get overpowered early, you don't sit there drawing magic from enemies for hours--you get the GF abilities that let you refine magic from items and cards and acquire magic that way. Also, Yes that's how limit breaks were supposed to work. They're ultra powerful attacks you get to use when you're near death (although as you mentioned some of the blue magic, or some of selfie's slots aren't great). It's kind of returning to the idea of desperation attacks from FFVI. It's why the chance of getting a limit break increases (and selfie's slots get better) the worst condition you're in--like if you're status afflicted with two dead party members Selfie's slots will show better spells overall than if she's critical and everyone else is at full health. Though obviously you can get limit breaks to come up more often in critical by passing the turn repeatedly, and you can use aura to her limit breaks even when you're not in critical health (so you technically didn't need to keep Quistis in critical health to use blue magic).

One of my most controversial opinions about FF8 is: it has the best soundtrack in the series! Well among the most powerful for me! Even the casual music of a Balamb Garden evokes powerful memories of my past more so than any other entry!

My introduction to FFVIII was actually a PlayStation Underground demo disc from my subscription when I was like 6(?). Obviously, I had literally no understanding as to what the hell I should have been doing. But I’ll never forget that FMV of Squall on the APC Boat looking towards, what today, reminds me of D-Day and beaches of Normandy. Got older, owned a copy, couldn’t wrap my mind around the Junction/Draw system, and just stopped. Didn’t ever play it again the Remaster came out. It’s a great game with a very unique spin on Character development. It was a bold departure from the norm. While I’m not saddened by it never appearing again in the series, I think they could have done something interesting with aspects of the Junction System being incorporated into subsequent games. Shame they never did… then again they may have I just never noticed. There a good handful of Final Fantasy games that I’m pretty damn close to a Platinum on. In fact, I just Platinumed FFXVI(super easy plat.). The reason I haven’t got the Platinum for the other ones I’m close to getting the Platinum is because they’re trophies that involve either quests or mini-games I just DO NOT have the patience for. Like dodging lightning *300 FUCKING TIMES IN A ROW* in FFX. Or that jump rope bullshit in FFIX. Spending ridiculous amounts of time breeding a Gold Chocobo in FFVII to get Knights of the Round. Beating the Trail versions of the Judges from FFXII. Killing the Adamantoise in FFXV. Beating the secret Bosses in FFX-2. Getting that stupid Bracelet in FFXII. Beating Pride & Joy in FFVII:Remake/Intergrade. Beating Emerald/Ruby Weapon FFVII. Shit like that. I just don’t have the patience for them. I love Final Fantasy, but I love Final Fantasy for it’s characters and worlds and stories. Not trudging through tedious tasks that feel like I’m taking a cheese grater to the face. Especially old era Final Fantasy, the pace of the gameplay just makes it 1000 times worse me. My ADD/ADHD can not follow through on a lot of that shit precisely because of the slower gameplay. As for the FFVII:Remake trophies, well, just getting to Pride and Joy is fucking Gauntlet from hell. I haven’t even gotten to the actual Pride and Joy fight. 😂 With all that said, here’s a contradiction for all of you, I’m going back through FFVIII and I literally just spent 25 hours doing Triple Triad refinement, and only just now did the SeeD Exam haha Grinding Ruby Dragon x50 to get 100 Flare was a literal nightmare. Till I found a pattern that got me 24 in a couple hours… only for the pattern to change once I got to 30x Ruby Dragons… then it took what felt like another 10 hours get the last 20…. Ugh… I am never doing that again. Thank god for multiple save files cause from now on Post-Ruby Dragon x50 grinding just before the exam is my starting point whenever I play it again in the future.

I remember buying the Prima? guide for FF8 because it was only like $10 extra and then actually using it for ultimate weapons and the card game Questline but the Quistis Ultimate weapon was wrong or i read it wrong and NEVER found her ultimate Weapon. So many people hated the draw system but likely never figured out how it works... If you increase a character's magic stat, you increase their draw ability. Making the 'grind' laughably easy. People who say its a bad game just didn't experiment and likely need everything spoon fed into a tutorial to understand. Its annoying... Its one of my favorite games (obviously.. lol)

The PS4 trophies are far easier than the Steam ones. One of them requires you to complete the whole game with Squall on level 1, while another requires you to collect every single card.

I always liked FF8 Not sure why but over time it got more and more hate online. To the point i now expect it to be trashed whenever FF is mentioned. But what do i know my FF ranking have shifted over time except for FF6 which has remained my #1 FF, followed by various FFs over time with FF7 and 10 being 2 and 3 However now id put FF13-2 2nd and #3 is probably FF7 still but purely out of Nostalgia. FF8 has been always been 4 or 5 for me and actually got the remaster just today and FF15 days ago to play those later on in the year.

I don’t like the junction stuff. It is really annoying to have everything set up on your character last only to hit a cut scene or spot in game where your characters stuff is all reset and needs to be done all over again. It’s so time consuming. And having to trade magic spells between characters because they run out of space is annoying too. I think I put more hours into this then 7 9 and 10 because of this stuff.

Yeah the junction system can really be hit or miss. The time for me it was not bad, just due to me playing the game as naturally as I could and not going out my way to do stuff and only using what I had. There’s so many different ways you can tackle it
